Broken Beat was such a small scene and ignored by virtually everyone its a damn shame. I always thought it was way too complex for the average head. True future rare grooves here
It (and jungle/drum n bass) is what inspired me to study abroad in London in 1996 (I'm from the US), and is what I consider home base as far as my DJing goes. Yeah most people don't get it, especially in the US, but when I sneak it in with house or Afrobeat tracks, people tend to stay on the dance floor at least.
@@AnxiousCowboy the easiest way to explain. The best parts of all different kinds of music.. combined into one sound. Not every track per say though you can easily hear world wide influences.
I caught Dego in 1997 in New York City playing a Detroit set. Then round 2001, Dego did an all out assault broken beat set in New York. I still remember it till today. Beyond next level. Everyone in the spot recognized
@@David-Perrylive as far as I know. There are no spots in nyc that even have a monthly these days. Mark de Clive appears every now and again… Gilles… though it’s been fairly quiet..

Yeah big time. People weren't ready...still aren't. I can't get enough. Been hooked since day one.

Nice to know there’s some international recognition. I only know two clubs in the uk that play this music.
