Man, this was insane !! I've been watching the Bones Brigade stuff from the 80s and while one cannot deny the tricks being done there, the Dog Town skaters just take skateboarding to a whole new level, it's got a real element of danger, of raddness that is not seen anywhere else. I grew up in Brooklyn, hung out all over NYC, and skated from 77 till 92, then I moved to Connecticut. In NYC, we had the concrete skatepark in Queens in Jackson Heights, like around 82 maybe, prior to that, like 79 or so there was a plexiglass park over in Staten Island. Met some of the original Soul Artist Zoo York skaters, man same thing they had a real element of danger when ever they skated. Although my first proper board was a 10.0 Hobie Starship with Tracker Full tracs with wide UFO double conical wheels, by 1980 I had DogTown boards, both the 10.0 and 12.0 Wes Humpston, the 9.5?? Jim Muir, and a Kriptonics Tri Beam, pretty much everything had Independent trucks and Sims Snake conical Now I'm 59, haven't skated in a long time, 30 years maybe but I still got the Hobie and the DT Big Foot, and as astonishing as this sounds , 4 Dog Town longboards, of which one I've had for a couple of years and 3 were literally just ordered. I also scored a biggest boy deck. Man, I'm 6ft 7in tall and hated how the boards were just not long enough for me. My goal is next year when I turn 60 to start street skating again.. Thank you for posting this video as it totally blew my mind. Sincere apologies for the long rambing comment, but maybe... just maybe it's possible to teach an old and broken skater some new tricks.
This looks like fun. Watching skating these days, seems like you have to be part dare-devil part AMAZING! It's so technical! But, this is where a lot of it began! Mind boggling how far along skating has come. It's easily one of the toughest sports I've ever had the pleasure of dabbling in.
An awesome piece of collective Skate history. First time I have ever seen a skater do switch tricks like sw k-grinds, sw fs 360s down stuff, Karma's part stands to this day in 2020.
back in the day when a video part could be a few pretty big gap ollies, some curb skating, some pretty fun looking mini ramp lines and some kick ass vert. #WadeSpeyer
Wade is one of the best all rounders ever. He never gets his dues when mentioning great 90s skaters. In interviews of skaters of that era he always got mentioned with Hensley, Natas, Markovic, Carroll, koston etc. He was fast and big at at time when it skating got a bit low and slow. I blame the small wheels we rode by 92.
Looks like 91. Shove its and 360 shoves were mandatory. People were 360 flipping. It was the year they became mandatory. Back 360s also. Early switch stuff. By 92 People like salman agah and those emb skaters showed we had to do stuff switch to keep up.
Are you getting some things confused? Alva, Muir and Jay Adams were part of the Zephyr team. Then later on Muir started DogTown and Tony Alva started Alva and Jay Adams went and did Jay Adams things.. And concerning this DogTown video is considered one of the classics due to the individuals that were on the team during this time...
Michael Gatti yeah true, but Im trying to go back and dig up some of the older shit an learn it cause I like it. like theres a trick Matt Hensley did in one of his old parts, he like ollies up, grabs crail, and spins the board like a 3 shuv but with his hand, so its like a Crail 3 varial, but idek if thats really what it is lol
That's the ol' tailgrab 360 shove right there. A classic I've only seen one person do live. And I applaud your skate archaeology. The stuff folks do today is several hundred levels beyond what we even considered possible back then, but there's some weird and fun stuff that got lost in the shuffle.
Michael Gatti exactly! that shit that just screams "wtf!" thats what I wanna do. ive been trying to learn that. ive even got impossibles now. im trying to work on impossible tailgrabs over like hips and impossible fron lipslides
Dude, do you happen to be the one who won that extremely rare copy of “-1, A Skateboard Video”? It turns out the videos by New School and Public. I was trying to win it so I could upload the video to RUclips ( I got some other pretty rare vids on my channel) but I lost by a couple bucks. What a bummer
Nothing fancy, just the El Gato Video Capture dongle. It also helps that I took excellent-bordering on obsessive-care of my tapes back in the day, so most of them are still relatively glitch-free.
I remember when this video came out and everyone was riding this white ice ever slicks some of the best video Parts back then wade , John cardiel, karma.Nor-cal rippers.😉😎
That was awesome! I am just subscribed to your channel from The Nine Club 💯👍🔔

THanks for download. Never seen this footage of Wade Speyer. Loved watching him in the mid 90's on Powell!
Never knew about this videos existence till the other day, thanks for posting the whole thing 🤙

Wade Speyer has 1 of the smoothest styles of all time.

What was big big hype for small wheels aside from preforming tricks back in the 90s?
also this seems like a time when shuvs and 3 shuvs were popular. was it possible this was before 3 flips?
Someone had probably done them by this time, but they certainly weren't ubiquitous.
Nearly every street part in Hokus Pokus from ‘89 has a 3 flip, so nah I guess.
3flips were common at this time

Blind Video Days also came out in 91 and Jason Lee has a few 360 flips so it was definitely being done.
some cats i never heard of killing it
Dogtown is Tony Alva (retired) and his crew. Muir, Adams, etc etc. None of those people are in this video.......Not "Dog Town" Just planet earth.

Dave Warne! Ripper
24:05 Does anyone remember where that ramp was. I faintly remember it but cant think of where it was or what it was called
San Jose, CA
i was born 4 years after this dropped in '91 lol
Bummer. You missed some wild and weird years of skating.

Throw in a tailgrab noseslide on a rail and you've got the whole package.
The line at 9:18 was fucking sick
That reminds me of love park ❤️ 🛹
Josh Kalis would go on for like forever and then he would finally 360 flip the stair gap.
Hail.
What is the song at 19:24? Seems to sample Le Pampelmousse
dude this video is so sick, but whats up with the lady in the bra lol
Modeled for one of their decks I think

Sorry, not me. Never seen that vid either. Must have slipped past my radar back in the day.
All good. Just wondering what video capturing device do you use? This and the A1 Meats video came out in great quality.

Daugherty Springs
and what band was that singing about bathsalts during chet childress part?
That'd be the legendary Nomeansno with "Dead Souls."
