Fishing isn't neccesarily very expensive, unless you're going boating and such, but to get a decent setup it does have a ~$200 upfront cost for equipment, licenses, etc, and you slowly recoup the costs in fish caught. If you live in coastal Canada you can probably catch lots of wild trout and salmon.
Also, bigger fish are generally just trophies, fish meat quality gets worse with age and size and they become more likely to have parasites and have higher concentrations of toxins and heavy metals
