- Databricks is releasing several new features meant to help users both technical and non-technical access data and ask questions of it.
But is it good enough to replace analysts, tableau and our current approach?
In this video Josue Bogran ( / josuebogran ) will be walking through an example and I'll let you decide your thoughts.
But here was some of Josue thoughts from a recent post.
AI/BI Dashboards, are they good enough to replace Tableau?
In about 1 year to 1.5 years, yes. Right now, it is suitable for developers, but dashboards are not quite polished yet for CFO/leadership level. Likely 6 months to be polished enough for mid management usage. For now, keeping Tableau, PBI or Sigma is what works.
AI/BI Genie, how impactful is it?
I am a big believer in the value and capabilities it will have as the product matures. To get to that level of maturity, I believe it will be worst case scenario 2 years from now and best case scenario, 1 year. It is the sweet-spot between LLMs and your data, with Genie being similar to an intern that learns more and more about your preferences and how to provide data to you.

Impressive but it's still a chatbot at the end of the day. Great as an adhoc query tool for the business leaders. However some data people still need to curate the datasets and add good metadata.

100%. This is meant to leverage the best of what Databricks has to offer with the Unity Catalog's metadata + SME knowledge training the Genie space/room. I would not trust any solution that claims no training is necessary.
Thanks again for jumping on another video to help! We'll have to run this one back in a few years, see if we've moved forward...or maybe it'll just be an AI that will run it back for us hahah...
I think defaulting the grid to 1-2 decimal points for the decimal values (formatting, not trimming precision) would make a huge impact on aesthetics and readability. Same for thousand separators.
Donut chart! this chatbot is clearly trolling. No trained analyst would ever choose a donut chart.
