Considering how many set points and match points he let slip through his fingers, this is not a match you would have thought Rublev would have had the mental strength to see out and win, what a huge boost that will be for his confidence 🙏
Excellent match from both players! Rublev showed great composure after losing that dramatic first set tiebreak. Throughout his career we have seen him get very frustrated at times but Rublev is obviously incredibly passionate at the same time.
I remember that interview when Andrey said the only time he beat Medvedev was in an unofficial match and he always lost to Meddy ever since But things went better for Andrey in Cincy, and now, here in Torino Beating a player that has always been dominating your storyline and always compared to you always feels so great
Rublev has long been an emotional plyer on the court. It is nice to see him stay composed to the end. Medvedev had so much nerve and guts saving set and match points. A match well played.
Incredible, rublev outlasted Medvedev in the 9+ shot rallies and led him significantly in this stat. He won 3 rallies in the final breaker which were more than 30 shots each. He just didn't miss. Brilliant effort
I think that's somehow missing in medvedevs backhand, he cannot play a winner with it, just keep grinding and that's not enough if your opponent does not miss either
@@tetrakfecn6864 he can play aggressively and hit backhand winners but only if the ball is a tad short. He usually doesn't hit winners from deep positions unless they are passing shots from what I've seen
I love Rublev. He's so fun to watch but also heartbreaking at times cuz he's so hard on himself. This is the first time Ive seen him overcome his mental block and power thru. Hope this will be a huge boost for him.
Meddy really is like a Terminator - you really have to throw everything at him to put him away. Unbelievable. Congrats to both players for an epic match. 👍🏽
goodness me, daniil refused to miss on those match points. Rublev really had to take it from him. He wouldn't have had the patience a few years ago but seems to have matured in the important moments. well done boy. I hope he reaches the semis. I actually had a dream last night I was talking to him
Two likable guys. Rublev has been written off so many times. I think he can keep improving. His game isn’t as one dimensional as it seems sometimes, when he mixes in the slices he does well. Go Andrey! Good luck to medvedev in the future
Only watched the 1st set tie break come back from medvedev from 2-6 to 9-7, but i still see that Rublev got the power, great game for both of the russian
I am surprised that Rublev was abele to keep his calm even after having 5-2 lead, and being up 6-2 in the first set tie-breaker. This is a new Rublev that we haven't seen that has been able to keep his calm during these hard moments mental more than physical. Very impressed with Rublev today!
Gotta feel for Bweh here. He's been really struggling with mental health this year so it's wonderful to see him get such a hard-fought, gritty win considering all the set points and match points he choked away
What a great match for Andrey to win. Very happy for him, as he came into this tournament seemingly without a lot of confidence. Hope he can go far and maybe even win the whole ATP Finals!
@@yasdrums yeah I could see that but it’s not even about just hitting straight winners if he can just have people honor the possibility that he might hit a drop shot it’ll be harder for people
Rublev is playing with a lot of confidence. He had so many chances in that match - luckily he managed to close it out. And love message of 'peace' in the end.
I can't believe Rublev was up in the first set 5/3 and was up in the tie-break 6/2. Imagine how good he would be with a better coach and possibly a sports psychologist.
Well done Rublev, he deserved to win, such poor line judges, can't believe there's no auto line calls in the ATP finals! The 3rd set tiebreak was epic with a 38 stroke rally!
You know the real problem with Meddy? *He hasn't got a FH.* This first became evident (to me) during his self-inflicted loss to Nadal at this year's AO and it's become more and more obvious with time. He's got a top-class BH and he's getting better at the net, but the lack of a flat-drive FH is hurting him like hell. It means that, despite a great serve, he can't do a 1-2 punch to finish a point, which means almost no free points which means exhausting seesaw rallies. I don't know if he can change it now, but it's what he's *got to do* if he wants any real chance of winning more GSs.
I saw it live and boy what a match 🙏 breaking first game of the second set was key! His shoulders were beginning to drop after soo many misses chances in the first set.
I don’t know if it was a pattern in the match but there are some points where Rublev gets Medvedev far off the court and the he finishes the point with a shot to the same side instead of going to the open court. It is clever because Medvedev always run to the other side so quickly after stretching out. I always thought trying to wrong foot him as often as possible could be the best strategy to beat him, but most players just can’t resist the open court and then they get smoked out by Meddy. Rublev played very consistent, percentage tennis in these highlights, not rushing it and he deserves big respect for not losing his mind after failing to win the first set with so many oportunities. Also keeping focused when Medvedev was saving those match points, it is a huge win for Rublev. Hopefully he recovers quickly and plays at the same level against Djokovic.
Love Rublev. Although he sometimes gets frustated in the court, I think that's because he feels angry or displeased with himself. Off the court, he is so nice and attractive.
Considering how many set points and match points he let slip through his fingers, this is not a match you would have thought Rublev would have had the mental strength to see out and win, what a huge boost that will be for his confidence 🙏
Well done indeed
I think recapturing energy is the huge boost he will need.
How many? Over 10 set points?
His mental coach paying off
I feel like he was able to do it because at the end of the day he loves the guy on the other side and losing to Meddy is like a best case for Rublev.
Excellent match from both players! Rublev showed great composure after losing that dramatic first set tiebreak. Throughout his career we have seen him get very frustrated at times but Rublev is obviously incredibly passionate at the same time.
who would've thought that Rublev would bounce back right after that wretched first set, wow, great game

Definitely, really emotional
Wow what a match!
Rublev did it the hard way, the man of indoor hard courts
Really impressive from Rublev. He's been losing these tight matches this year so it's great to see him winning this. Can be huge for his confidence.
You couldnt said it better... Confident Rublev is top 3 player. If he can keep it up, he could be no.1 some day
Not this year.. He always has lost tight matches, thank God he wom

The pain that you have to put your body through to beat Medvedev is immeasurable. I've never seen anything like it. Great effort by Rublev.
Even just to contend with him, let alone beat him!!! Herculean feat!!!

What an insane match! What dramatic rallies! Respect for both players!
What a game! Both players trying not to breakdown is a show of resilience that's fitting for the top 8 shootout.
Happy to see Rublev breakthrough this match!
Andrey showed that perseverance brings good rewards 👏 Excellent match Rublo, you deserve the best! ❤️
Nice to see Rublev taking pace off to focus on patience and placement in those critical final points.
Felt amazing respect between them in a match where the two were so evenly matched. Incredible!
That's a MASSIVE win for him. It's been pretty one sided, but it think he's grown alot between the US Open and now. Great job!

Unforgettable moment in Nitto ATP Finals...!🌍✨❤️

I would like to see rublev work in some more drop shots as big as he hits and as far as he pushes opponents back
True, though tbf they don’t work as well in these conditions
Alcaraz could show him how to hit drop shots from either wing.

what an incredible physical effort. idk if I've ever seen rublev display shot tolerance to this level before.
Holy shit those rallies at the end. Big win for Ruby
I think Andrey really needed this for his confidence! I was a bit worried for him after how humble he was in the interviews before the games.
Great tennis from both players!
