For the longest time I've loved the sound of Dorje, and have been trying to figure out the "secret sauce" so to speak, but have never thought to ask the question what mode are all the riffs written in? This totally just made my day. Also! Please do more lesson videos, this was great. \m/

You have copped way to much crap over the last few months. Love your guitars and your attitude. Keep on going and take my upvote and subscription. BTW, just grabbed the MG30 after watching your review of the 400 and not disappointed. All the best from Gosford Australia.

Finally! Absolutely one of my favourite modes, especially when it comes to drone tones. I've always found that Phrygian Dominant also let's you stack two Major triads a half step apart from the root and B2, which can feel kinda spicy 🔥
    Hope you're doing well man!

This was a great lesson! I can always enjoy some Dorje! Is there any chance we'll get a studio recording for "Detritus"? I remember seeing some videos of live versions a few years ago, those nasty riffs stuck with me... would be so cool to hear a full studio version!

8:11 that is so fkn cool! I'm going to steal some of that silverware, hope you don't mind (haha).
Love this mode myself. Usually play it on a 3 note per string pattern, if you've got good stretching it's great for shreds too!
Also good to know that the harmonic minor is the 4th in the diatonic... if you think about it like that, it offers a lot more creative options.

Thanks Rob - if there's ONE THING I would like to see....is picking technique. I believe that's the difference between knowing the notes....and sounding good. If you could give us a masterclass on this, particularly alternate picking, picking every note etc I`d be a rich man :) Legato I can do but sometimes it isn`t enough.

I recently shredded some good Phryg Dom on the keys. 🎹 C . And G .
I invented an interesting Progression too. That I've never seen used before.
    III, iii, ii, I.
    I call it Descending Sus

Interesting. The pentatonic you chose is what I think of as the "Hindu" pentatonic. It works over Mixolydian and was used by George harrison and the Beatgles in their Indian phase. I've always enjoyed jumping between that and the Hirajoshi pentatonic, which works over Phrygian dominant. Now I know they are both in Phrygian dominant and it makes more sense.
Have a try of this Japanee Hirajoshi over Phrygian dominant - 1 , b2 , 4 , 5 , b6 - Tim That will work over minor or major Phrygian. NB. Neither of these pentatonics make a feature of the jump from b2 to 3M, so perhaps I need a third pentatonic to jump to to get the full flavour. That would probably have to be - 1 , b2 , 3 , 4 , 7
