Fun to have the challenge. I also love checking out the clearance. I frequent sprouts and King Soopers. Last great deal was at Sprouts.. 10 cents for 15 oz of fresh cut organic butternut squash- we got 2 packs. I was thinking soup but we ate it roasted in the oven... YUM!
You will rock this ! In my budget each month I enter a minimum and maximum for variable expenses. I usually spend an amount between these two. And often the minimum is ZERO ! $ has been extremely tight so that is why I have the two price criterias. Good Luck on your challenge
We just put in a 1.75 gpm showerpik to replace the old one that got 2 gpm. 5 gallons x 1.75 is a little under 5 gallons x 2. Also, shutting the water off while lathering helps save. Cooking is where it is hard to save water. A few years ago we replaced the faucet aerator that screw onto the end of the faucets. That really saves too.
Didn’t know about the challenge until the month was rolling along. However, I’m going to see if our power bill goes hour by hour (or smaller time blocks on their website. Then get my neighbors to do a power usage challenge in February (they’ve been complaining about their bills).
From November to January I have to keep my money spending down because working at a school we have the holidays vacation I lose money. So I have to watch my spending.
we got rid of ours last year and it saved us 65 dollars a month. when we checked last it was cheaper to keep it and we didn't check again for along time.
The days are numbered for ours… it has been out of service every month for a week plus, this last one for almost 4 weeks. Time to port it to a cheap cell service so later we can port it to a free google voice number.
I only use my small but pizza fitting convection oven and my ninja foodi and stove top. The stupid full sized oven is on an outside wall and cooks unevenly.
I look at all the errands I have to do. I line up all the southern ones together, northern ones together, etc. I can't do so much at once anymore, so I only go in one direction a day. That's one way to lower the water bill: stop taking showers!!! 😂 I live alone. Maybe I could go without any at all! 🤣 My stove has 2 ovens, a regular sized one and a small one about half the size of the regular one. It never use the regular sized one. The small one is plenty for me. The only times I've ever used the larger one was to roast tofurky at a couple of holidays. I also unplug the stove at the fuse box after every use and leave it unplugged until the next time I need to use the stove. Stoves use a lot of vampire energy. As always, love listening to you two! 😃
I don't know what basic expenses are. I am at about $1000 a month on my budget. Electric $55 Car gas $20, food $100, gas home $24, internet phone $110 pellets $67 water/trash pickup $34 $410 is what is basic for me. I pay many bills once a year or quarterly. It has been around Christmas that I bought gas and that was $13 from the drive to my sisters home in Madison. It has been a great year to Ebike in the winter in Wisconsin. I even get odd looks from the Amish at Aldi! :) Good luck on the bare bones challenge!
Monday and Tuesday meat is discounted gotta get there early. Too funny, i just told my son about not using gas or brakes cause lights every 200 yards. I'm like coast save breaks and gas
I am doing a low spend month for January, so I accept this challenge. Goals (total spent so far) are: Fuel $0 (filled up the tank on 12/27), Water $70 ($70.92), Electricity $80 ($84.03), Propane $64 ($64), Groceries $100 ($70.35), Cell Phone $30 ($30) Internet $0 (do not have). I believe that puts me at $319.80 right now for these items. Not sure I'm going to make the $100 for groceries this month, but I think I will be okay for fuel. We shall see. If one needed to use fuel for a medical appointment would it still go under the regular fuel budget for this challenge? I usually keep medical separate. Curious what others do. Temp here in central ND is -21°F.
Confused... $800.00 challenge...you are a family of 4, Prepper Princess is a family of 1 (3 if you count her 2 dogs which she feeds human food...she makes their dog food). Is her $ limit $200.00 as a single? Is she counting the dogs for a challenge limit of $600.00. Did I miss this detail in your discussion?
Put in hardwood floors. Electric fail. $167. I drive around and see all these windmills and solar farms and our Electric is crazy high. Most around $300.
Pepper princess is awesome
Our property taxes are $860 a month. I live in a blue collar town, but a high cost state. So, no.
I didn’t know there was a challenge either until Homestead Tessie told me there was!
LOL! Tessie set the rules and I just followed them. You know I'm a rule follower.
i watch those 2 ladies as well. they r awesome just like u are
Wow, I added up what you mentioned and I can make that work!

11:22 I defrost the pizza and then cut it to fit the toaster oven tray.
That's pretty smart!
No not where i live currently.
My winter weather driving technique: I play the "don't ever stop" game, so i don't have to get going again lol
Great tips! Both of you are great! Thanks for sharing ❤
Wore my thick Santa socks for gloves this morning, worked great, showed lady that gave me the idea what I did.
We cut out pizza into halves or quarters to fit into the toaster sometimes.
Hello from Rhode Island. Snow. Sub zero wind chills over nights all week 20 for day time highs.
Hey, fellow Rhodie! I left our beautiful state years ago, but still consider it my heart's home.
Hello from Georgia. Snow, ice tomorrow afternoon. 19° tonight.
😂❤@@SherryEllesson
What about house taxes and homeowners insurance
It's painfully cold, but the snow looked really pretty today!!
ive been doing this challenge as well. im down to abt $900/month plus food
We have a well, so water is on the electric bill, but we wash clothes (and dry them) at the laundromat in town, since we also have a septic system.

Discount tires has a line, not even getting out of car, line up to guy that services all four tire pressures.
I’d look into how much internet you actually need. We only stream on one tv. Pay $20 a month for internet

We still have a landline. Can't seem to let it go.

Unfortunately, it's a reality for me every month since retiring and Medicare and prescriptions are so high.
Do you have the option of getting prescriptions thru mail service? That has helped us.
I only use my small but pizza fitting convection oven and my ninja foodi and stove top. The stupid full sized oven is on an outside wall and cooks unevenly.
I enjoy baking, and we rarely buy baked goods other than sandwich bread, so I think using the oven less would cost us money.
❤❤❤❤❤ hi!!! Have watched you guys forever! We re having me stay home again... So happy for your tips
We Placed A Plastic Reusable Freezer Block for Cooler Bags In Our Toilet Cisterns - They Reduced the Amount of Water Used Without Reducing Function
In Texas we have HEB, best grocery store ever and great prices!!!😊
Yes! Love those yellow coupons!
Easy, doing it every month including the preschool I have....guess not making much to begin with helps.
I look at all the errands I have to do. I line up all the southern ones together, northern ones together, etc. I can't do so much at once anymore, so I only go in one direction a day.

The challenge for you isn't fair since you are a family of 3 while Tessie is 2 and PP is just 1.

Weird looks from the Amish, impressive!
Do you include house taxes and insurance or car insurance in this $800 bare bones budget?
We pay those once a year.
Monday and Tuesday meat is discounted gotta get there early. Too funny, i just told my son about not using gas or brakes cause lights every 200 yards. I'm like coast save breaks and gas
Might be able to do it. I am just at €635 so far.
I don’t think that water bill will have your son’s laundry usage on it.
You could have put in a tray of potatoes along with the squash
Yep. Great suggestion. I did 2 trays of the squash along with the pizza on the middle rack.
Obviously not including mortgage or rent?
Check their old episodes, they paid cash when they byought the house. Very intense saving to do that.
Our home is paid for. So, no, that was not included. The challenge also didn't include taxes or insurance.

Interesting thanks! It is going to drop to 9 degrees tonight here in Albuquerque, NM!

Nope, no Dave Ramsey for me, he’s a millionaire, that cannot relate to poor people. I might even unsubscribe from your channel. Thank you.
LOL! Well, if a personal preference like that is all it takes for you to unsubscribe, then we probably aren't the channel for you anyway.
@Rl-us6yl…Ramsey has a credible “lost everything” story that changed his (and wife’s) life and helped countless others.
Dave Ramsey was broke once! The people who have been there is exactly who you want to listen to.
