    Thank God, was driving home the other day and could swear I saw several turkeys in a tree. Thanks for assuring me i'm not insane!

      my dog randomely got into about a 5 second fight with a turkey and it flew away making me think i didnt see a turkey. but i did. and as high as he could get was about to the tree tops which were maybe 30 feet up.

      @lob ster new world quail can fly and often fly up in trees. Not sure about grouse tho

      @@paintbrush3554 nah grouse fly up to trees too by the way grouse can even fly better than quails , they r known to migrate for smaller distances and from one state to another .

    It takes a LOT of power to get a 30 pound bird with a 5-foot wingspan off the ground.

      Lucas Harris no way wild Turkeys can go up to 30 pounds. The domestic genetically engineered turkeys are usually 16 pounds.

      @@350zmurray Lol we had pterosaurs like Hatzegopteryx that weighed several hundred pounds and yet were capable of powered flight. This sucker was as big as a fighter jet

      @@Spooqi The thing about pterosaurs is is that most of them where big yet hollow and very muscular. Fun fact: Pterosaurs launch them self up into flight using their front legs just like bats.

      you mean fattened. they don't fly well and not for long distances in the first place. All the increase from how we feed them is what really keeps them to the ground.

    Ofcourse they can fly....chickens and pea fowl etc all can fly. There is even a video on RUclips of jungle fowl (basically the wild chicken) outflying a bird of prey on a short distance

    Thanks for confirming that. I just saw out the corner of my eye a big black bird fly across my yard. A few minutes later saw the bush Turkey on my fence. I wondered if it could have been the same thing. Wasn't sure whether they could fly.

    The turkey in this case probably is a wild one. Wild turkeys are a bit smaller and much lighter than the domestic ones. Like Guineas, pheasants and peacocks, they don't fly enormous distances, but they can fly to roost on trees and scape their terrestrial enemies.

    Not only can they fly, but they are perhaps the only bird that can jump straight up off the ground like a helicopter. As you see this one does as it jumps into that tree branch right above it

      Turkeys can only fly vertically or a at a slightly slanted vertical angle. They can't fly horizontally like Robin's and Hawks.

      mo joe I love turkey hunting, and I can assure you, and me personally have seen a lot of them fly up to 150ft to trees, and fly low @ 55mph for about a Quarter mile

      I saw a large bird, which I thought was a vulture, fly across US 50 a few days ago. Then it's fellow bird followed, and I clearly saw it's red thing (wattle-had to look that up), hanging from it's throat. Pretty cool to see that.. WKRP was funny, but they were wrong about turkeys not flying. Poetic license.

      Domestic heritage turkeys can and will fly very well. They love to roost in trees. Out of the many breeds of turkeys, only two are (almost) completely flightless.

    You can just here the force and all the power it takes for them to get up there, this is a good example of evolution though. Turkeys must’ve been mainly airborne at one point and are probably in the midst of becoming solely ground dwelling animals that is if we don’t eat em all jk

      Wild chickens aka red junglefowl, can fly higher than their domestic counterparts as most breeds were bred for eggs or meat. Don't throw a regular turkey in the air, they were bred for meat, so they cant fly!

    This is a turkey vulture. There are 5 sub species of them. There are also wild turkey's and then the common domesticated ones that end up on our plates. Come to Canada, not that uncommon at all ;)
