The really glaring error on Freisinger's uniform to me is that he doesn't have his shoulder boards with his rank, it looks like an incomplete uniform jacket with random medals someone just googled.
Edit: It honestly kinda looked like they tried to copy Hitler's "style" and medals then pasted them onto an SS uniform with an old guard chevron and no shoulder boards .

Ok, so things I missed/ got wrong
Not a Makarov, that's a Tokarev. Still, Russian Knockoff of a western pistol with similar name so forgive me on that.
G43 Mag is curved, why? How? I don't know. But it is.
Also, for those of you not too familiar with world history. After the war ended, the USSR and Western Allies became enemies. And as Polina is a Special Operations sniper, she is most likely affiliated with the NKVD (Soviet Secret Police). Meaning that she would probably be ordered to inform on, kidnap or murder her comrades here once the conflict ends.
Also, thank you to the gun nerds in the chat, I do planes not guns so your input is valuable. Quote from Boymahina123
"The MG42 is a short recoil operated machine gun. That means the bolt and barrel both move backwards a short distance while locked together, before the bolt unlocks, detaches from the barrel and continues on backwards to eject the spent brass and continue with the cycle. It has no gas system to speak of. The muzzle booster's function is to use gas pressure at the muzzle to help the locked bolt-and-barrel system overcome inertia and get the action moving and functioning. Without it, the recoil force of the fired round wouldn't be enough to both overcome the inertia of the bolt-and-barrel system and push the bolt back far enough to eject the fired round/strip a new round from the belt"

you also miss the point that Werner Von Braun wasn't a SS. He was enlisted as one but forced to be one by Himmler himself. He was asked twice to joined the SS, he declined the two invitation but at the second he was put to jail and then he accept to "be" a SS. And the use of prisonner from concentration camp wasn't his idea neither, it was Arthur Rudolf that proposed to use these prisonner to work on assembly line at Peenemünde or Mittelwerk. An Amalgam that a lot of historian have done.

Well, the 8mm Mauser is a tapered cartridge, so it would be, at some point. The problem is bigger then that. First, that is not the 10rnd mag the G43 came with, this is like a 15rnd thing. Second, the curve would be too much even if there was a 15rnd mag for it somewhere (if there is, I can't find it), 8 Mauser is not THAT tapered. Have a look at the Mauser M1916 selfloader, with a 20rnd curved mag in 8mm Mauser.

As a commenter from the Bougainville Mission breakdown, let me reiterate how the MG42 works.
The MG42 is a short recoil operated machine gun. That means the bolt and barrel both move backwards a short distance while locked together, before the bolt unlocks, detaches from the barrel and continues on backwards to eject the spent brass and continue with the cycle. It has no gas system to speak of. True statement! 42 must have a booster to properly function! Fun fact: there are companies in America that re weld parts kit mg42s to semi autos (as to be legally owned) and adjustment of the booster is necessary for that and for the caliber changes to both .308 and even some being converted to shoot 7.62x39 (for a cheaper cost to shoot).

I dont like when games do the "chase down the big baddie but he has to be taken down alive because we need his info" only to then immediately kill them, especially if there's no choice between killing them or keeping them alive. It makes the whole chase portion completely pointless, especially if they fail you for shooting them during the chase. If the "correct" choice is to kill them let me do it whenever I can, not have a bombastic chase where we almost all die so we can "take them down alive with our own hands" then kill them anyway

For instance, the M.95 in BF1 ejected its en-bloc clip like a Garand when reloading from partially empty. The clip also visibly contained all of its rounds. When it reappeared in V, this was changed to having to physically pull the clip out manually, with the correct amount of leftover rounds in it. When reloading with just one bullet left, that round is ejected and a new clip is simply pushed in, as the previous one would've dropped out of the bottom of the rifle when the last round was chambered.

@@Tounushi The Nazis were addicted to displays of heirarchy. High ranking Party, Chancellery, and government officials were granted honorary SS ranks and wore the uniform, but these were always roughly equivalent to the importance of their regular job. It would be a calculated insult to give such a high ranking person the lowest officer rank in the SS and for them to wear that uniform. No explanation is offered in the game for that discrepancy.
Also, I don't think that was a Party badge being displayed as our esteemed commentator mentioned. That would have been worn on the necktie on the uniform or centered over the left breast pocket. From the size it looks like the German Cross in Gold being displayed in the wrong position. It should be on the right side of the recipient centered on the breast pocket. This was nicknamed "Hitler's fried egg" for the gaudy way it looked and the huge swastika on it. It was the intermediate medal between the Iron Cross First Class and the Knight's Cross. Again, another anomily is why combat medals were being worn on the black SS uniform when by 1945, all Waffen SS that were combatants would have been wearing gray uniforms.

And I doubt he was supposed to wear the German Cross, as it doesn't have the metal starburst around it, and the "roundel structure" of it was swastika -> white circle -> silver/gold wreath on a red ring -> steel starburst. Also there's no space for text on the red, which the party badge does have. At best it's a pointlessly censored 30mm Golden Party Badge, which is likely, since he's old guard in the SS.

    • @place_there9104

@@Tounushi They could have constructed a storyline about a formerly high ranking Waffen SS officer having delusions about being the rightful leader of Germany and getting booted out of both the Party and the Waffen SS as a result. In honor of past services he could have been allowed to retain membership in the lowest officer rank of the Allgemeine SS. That would have explained the antipathy towards Hitler and the uniform, although it wouldn't explain at all why anyone would still be following him. Another missed game opportunity.
As for the German Cross versus the Golden Party Badge question. It could be either one since the appearance and positioning are wrong for both awards. What I see in the game more closely resembles the post-war version of the German Cross which would be acceptable to show in the game in Germany. This could be a case of lazy programming that includes the censored German version elements of the uniform along with uncensored rest of the world elements.

In the same way Black Ops Cold War took the Perseus thread of truth to make a whole game, they could do something fictional about the months and couple of years after WW2, based around stuff like the planned "Werewolf" insurgency or the supposed ODESSA organization (the alleged group of ex-Nazis who organized escape for war criminals and to keep the spirit of the Reich alive). One thing you forgot was that even of he did escape Berlin to for his "fourth reich" underground in South America he just would have been another delusional Nazi blabbing on about the third Reich's return while being hunted internationally by organizations like the Mossad.

I concur in that being surprisingly not awful aside from the glaring issues in the entire premise of the mission.
Like, they could have had you fight to the Brandenburg Gate and stop him there, highlighting some uncommon real history (and giving them an excuse to model a Storch, an aircraft I utterly adore). They didn't have to invent a narrative, they could have used the reality that was just as interesting.
I still cannot get over how jarringly ahistorical the weapon handling is. The most forward thinking person of that era was probably WE Fairbairn and even he didn't teach anything like this. It's all just 2022 commando shit juxtaposed into WWII. I also detest how wimpy they made the semiauto handguns sound--.45 ACP and .30 Tokarev are loud, punchy cartridges. They're not cap guns

Another detail I’ve realised about the squad: While the black British guy being the sergeant over a group of white people *probably* wouldn’t happen because of the intense Racism present in the 40’s, the fact that Polina Petrov is treated as anything like an equal is, sadly, more innacurate.
The first thing to remember is that she’s a woman. Women like Petrov’s inspirations still fought and were absolutely badass in WWII, but they weren’t that well appreciated. Remember, this is the 40’s, where most Women were expected to be passive housewives. Secondly, every other member of the task force is from a *Capitalist* society. I know that the Cold War hasn’t kicked off yet in the game, but Communism was still highly disliked at the time. Why else was the race to Berlin so important?
Vanguard’s writers want to tell a story about destroying the forces of evil and showing pride in the face of discrimination, and yet it refuses to address the bigoted beliefs that were so common at the time

Compare it to any other cod like WW2 or big red one or any of them that just try to immerse you in the conflict or ripoff some iconic movie scene, I shouldn't even have to mention World at War if anything it tried too hard to show the brutality of WW2 to a point where its a trivialized game mechanic(press left bumper to burn the crops, do you slaughter the surrendering germans painlessly or do you waltz past and let them burn? Or the fact you fan just NOT save the sailors in black cats if you dont press x lmao)
