In short: Stealth isn't magic. Which isn't news, even to casually interested observers.
@Drew Peacock It's interesting there are false positive and false negative detection signals, never mind failed tracking thereof. The Lightning II is a devilishly clever pocket rocket.
@Drew Peacock Trump was and is a populist to his core.
@@zykom1 Detection is one thing. Having accurate enough tracking info to fire upon and hit is a completely different matter.
@Drew Peacock By the time a fighter gets into range of the F35 which is BVR. What do you think will happen. You people make it sound like the F35 won't see them coming a million miles away. Talk to me after one gets taken out as you suggest. Until then I have 2 words, Prove it!
@Drew Peacock Are you a Brit?
I find that people tend to forget that the F-117 that was shot down flew in a known attack path which had enemy radars locked on and expecting it. It also flew without it's electronic warfare escorts, further enhancing the risks that it took. Modern 4++ gen fighters come with ECM capabilities either built in or in a pod. The F-35 has ECM capabilities built into and could fly with other Electronic Warfare aircrafts and work with AWACs for missions that requires stealth.
If they were stealth their path wouldn't be known no mater how many times they used it. ECM are a flaw for stealth planes, they make normal planes being spotted sooner let alone the plane over which you have spent millions to make it almost invisible. RQ-4 has the same/even better ECM since it lacked maneuverability but still Iran shot it down.
@@itspersiangulfmoron.repeat2242 "If they were stealth their path wouldn't be known no matter how many times" I don't know if you were aware but stealth doesn't make the plane invisible, you can still hear and see the aircraft
@@itspersiangulfmoron.repeat2242 this comment shows a lack of understanding. ECM is only meant to break the enemy's potential for a good radar lock, forcing manual launch of SAMs which is ineffective. ECM however increases your visibly range by 2x. The path can be known even without the visible ECM pathing because of the multitude of missions flown prior can be traced by the enemy to begin with.
Being spotted vs being targeted are two completely different things. Once you're spotted, you expect an air sortie which doesn't exist because in the case of the F-35s being supported by the F-22 would have already shot down the incoming aircrafts. Then lets say we have a combined strike group with F/A-18s and F/A-18G Growlers, F-22s, F-35s, F-16s, and F-15E or F-15EX.
The most likely scenario is the F-35s penetrate enemy defenses and take out early warning and important fire control systems. F-22 supports the F-35s while also shooting down aircrafts at BVR. F-35s datalink with F-15EX and take out all enemy fighters BVR, F/A-18G is in-charge of scrambling enemy radar to confuse enemy on direction of attacks, numbers, and other ECCM (Electronic Counter Counter Measure, yes that s a thing). F-16s and F/A-18s and F-15Es are in-charge of delivering the mission package.
In this scenario, an enemy like Iran would literally be obliterated because they can't even get a shot off. You can SEE but they can't fire. Even the S-300s and S-400s would have problems shooting down F-35s without proper targeting radars. F/A-18s can carry HARMs and shoot in the general direction of the radars blindly. This suppresses the enemy radar as turning on would risk a HARM locking onto the radar radiation.
And say they do turn on and fire, given that they can land hits, the number of F-35s available would be replenished rapidly since they have been built to be mass produced.
Capabilities combined with the ability to be mass deployed makes the F-35 almost omnipotent against low tech nations like Iran. But nations like China and Russia would have more ways to deal with it, although at a very high cost.
@@marcosburgos8415 Stealth doesn't make the plane invisible, it makes it harder to be spotted. The main use of stealth coating is that you don't have to fly low to avoid enemy radar so no one will be able to see and hear you(and of course thinner air up there has less drag)
I only meant that phrase of "known path" doesn't match stealth, either they would never find it or they shoot it the very first time(if it gets too close radar can find it)
@@kerblingtime Thank you for the highly intelligent explanation. People forget about combined arms and focus on one narrow aspect as if they are supposed to work alone. Gulf War 1 is an obvious example although drones are going to really be a game changer. Have a great day Kerbling Time.

Stealth isn't an invisibility cloak, it just reduces the detection range to such an extent that long and medium range air defense systems have no time to respond before eating standoff munitions.

by the way the reason Israel insist to have it own designated "I" version is to be able to put in the future locally made system like radars jamming pods, avionics , sensors etc.

I agree with a lot of what you said except for "The US is putting its eggs on the stealth basket" I did not understand that.
The F-117 was 100% reliant on Stealth
The F-22 on the other hand is faster and more maneuverable than any US fighter, it also has better situational awareness than any 4th gen fighter,
The F-35 is within the same speed and maneuverability ball park as current US 4th gens, has even better situational awareness than the F-22 and has advanced Electronic warfare capabilities.
They are not relying on just stealth.
Well, actually, yeah, they are. For the price of a stealth plane, you can have 5 times as many extremely capable aircraft in your inventory. What's the old saying: quantity has a quality all its own.
@@hot2warm except no.
Lot 13 of the USAF's F-35 purchase pegged it $80 million per aircraft. Name me what "extremely capable" aircraft you can get at 5 units for 80M
Note, aside from that one admitted shot down F117, there is a recent statement from the USAF pilot is that he witnessed another damaged F117 in the air, he didn't say a fate of that damaged craft. Serbia is a small country and the damaged plane could have easily made emergency lading on many airfields or even crash in friendly (or forced to be friendly) NATO territory (all countries around Serbia) where such crash can be easily hidden from the public. So it's not one hit.

there is a good reason why the israeli f35 called "F35I"...... almost everything except the chasis was replaced in that aircraft. larger fuel tanks' better radar sensors, better electronic warfare etc.....
i love the objective view and analysis
I read that the F117 was shot down because they kept opening their bomb doors at a predictable location day after day. So the shoot down wasn't they fault of the equipment but of the operator. Testing your doors at the same location everyday and thus losing your stealth is a sure way to be seen and shot down.
“The engine might fail” 🤣🤣🤣
Israel, Gods Chosen People
And other jokes you can tell yourself🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thats why they were lost for 40 years in Egypt.
The F117 that was shot down was not due to the enemy being able to detect it. It was due mostly to poor mission planning. It used the same flight path that had been used before several times.
I also do not think the US is putting all of it's eggs in one basket. The US has many non-stealth planes in it's inventory that are not going anywhere soon.
To target a missile it needs to be detected. The thing is, it was detected at 8 miles away and the lock failed twice. 8 miles is almost point blank range.
I personally feel that the F-22 should have been built in larger numbers before moving to F-35 production. The F-22 is superior at least for air superiority. Yes the F-35 is more versatile in other roles but loses out in air to air combat by doing so. The F-22 although limited in its roles, is a better airframe. I feel that the military industrial complex used the F-35 as a money making platform too. Look how its marketed to our allies. I think we should be looking at how to actually win peer to peer conflicts, not just market a do all aircraft. Its not a bad aircraft, just too multirole to excel in any one role IMO.

Detecting doesn't mean getting a lock the f117 got shoot down because the missile locked to the opened bomb doors with radar.
Refueling over Iraq isn't far fetched.
F117 had a defined role. Be the first in, and take out enemy radar, SAM batteries and airfields, while evading the same things by being stealthy. Once they had blinded the enemy, you can then just roll in with non-stealthy aircraft.
The B2 bomber had a simple role to, another nuclear weapon delivery system that could penetrate deep into enemy territory and believably deliver those weapons as an effective nuclear deterrent. To go with ICBMs, and nuclear subs. The reason to have 3 delivery methods is to make sure no single new technlogy (say ICBM killing satellites) could completely nullify the nuclear deterrent and therefore destabilise MAD. This was the cold war we are talking about. Like ICBMs, or sub-based nuclear weapons the B2 was never actually meant to be used in real life.
Stealth now with the f35 and f22 has become much more diversified in its role, and an effective extra feature to go along with everything else. They are supposed to pick up what the f117 did, as well as a series of other roles which aren't as well defined and clear.
Like here for Israel.

The F35 is a reskinned F16. They invested in modification materials they more or less simply place over the existing airframe to make it an apparently new aircraft. That means that it is an F16 with a bodykit. Most of the original airfame is unmodified, so the reason for the under wing bulges is mostly hiding the existing shape of the F16. Further than that, the plane has no aerodynamic analysis applied to it, so it is certainly heavier and far less capable than the original F16, which itself was stolen technology from Russia.
And the F22... reskinned and remodelled F15.
the F117 was detected because the bomb bay doors was open and got into the radar scan... so it was luck...
It means that if you want to attack someone you will be also destroyed. What's the point of stealth aircrafts then?

@@kresbes7240 ye, I reckon thats a bit too many "supposed" to be stating it like a fact (Im talking about the OP here).
RCS is a giant can of worms. Americans claim one thing, Russians calim something completely different. I saw somewhere that Americans claimed the RCS of the Su-57 to be around 0.001 m2, whereas the russians put it at 0.2-0.3 m2 (I can try to find the source, though it wont be a terribly reputable one).
Point is, that idk who to believe. Gut tells me that the Russians are lying less, since if they had actually achieved an RCS significantly below 0.01 m2 they'd be calling US out for BS when they say that the 57 isnt as stealthy as the 22 (which I dont doubt myself).
But my point is that with stealth planes, RCS is too secret and too much of a selling point for them to just disclose it, so I reeeeeealy dount that the RCS of the F-35 used in the 45 km estimate is correct.
@@kresbes7240 going off Irbis-E wikipedia data (ye, trustworthy source again, but whatever, its just for lolz anyway) a 45km detection range would put the F-35 RCS at roughly 0.0003 m2, which is stealthier than the Russians claim the Su-57 to be. I somehow find tha validity of this calculation (based off a line of best fit of wikipedia detection ranges) doubtful.
@@deanboy2416 let's say if the Russians lying is proportional to American lying that would be about correct.
To be blunt the no escape zone of the amraam is 20 km. Which doesn't mean that the plane has no chance to escape. I don't belive the f35 can hide at that distance. Neither from the radar nor from the IRST. Taking into account the superior kinectic performance of the su 35 and the quantity of missles i would say f35s r dead meat in that encounter.

A few things to note:
1) It's not cheap but it's not crazy expensive compared to other capable platforms. The F-35A (the version Israel purchased) costed the USAF ~$82 million each in 2020. That's a very similar cost to a 4.5 generation fighter in the F/A18 Superhornet and the latest F-16 models.
2) The real advantage of the F-35: SENSOR. FUSION. The amazing capabilities of the F-35 allow it to act as forward air controllers for other assets such as guiding in missiles launched by submarines while being undetected. They also have amazing jamming capabilities with their radar being as effective as dedicated EW aircraft in some circumstances. This is where the F-35 pulls ahead of the competition and I'd really appreciated it if Covert Cabal talked about the sensor fusion capabilities a lot more!
IIRC, he did talk about it in one of his earlier videos. Sensor fusion isn't something that only the US has, although it is ahead of others at the moment.
As for the price, it's not just about the price of a single jet, it's also about logistics. Tech teams need way more time and dedication to make an F-35 ready for action than it takes them for an F-16. RAM needs to be applied to the jet, because its design alone isn't enough to make it as stealthy as marketed. This takes time and it also increases the maintenance costs, as well as making maintenance more difficult. High-tech isn't cheap and it's not easy. Otherwise, everybody would be doing it. The Russians have the same problem with the Su-57. It simply doesn't fit their military doctrine. That's why the RuAF prefers the Su-35. It has all the advanced sensors and avionics, but it doesn't require as much attention. And it's the same reason why the USAF is getting the shiny new F-15EX.
@@DragoBoss Mark my words. F-15EX will be a missile truck.

Funnily enough, the same argument was given for WW1 battleships (to a point), and certainly for the Yamato-class battleships of WW2 - they were just too expensive to risk being lost to send into combat!
Not totally the same, battleship's problem is at its core not with the stealth fighter which problem is component (price). Of course, it's more expensive but it also opens more option for the attacker which 4th gen simply can't do it without lost even more than 5th gen (especially pilot). Stealth is just another tool, the new tip of the spear to help break enemy defend first before other, more venerable assets get in.
@Drew Peacock I love when people talk about how planes should use swarms of suicide drones. That's called a missle dude, you just want to make smaller missiles
@Drew Peacock any drone with effective ew suites, loitering capability and all the bells and whistles you just asked for is going to cost as much as a missle anyway and even if you go for the cheapest possible drone, which is buying one from the store and strapping a grenade on it it can be taken out by a cheap shot gun round, military airbusrts round or flak used back in WWII. They can also be shot down by Lasers which are getting cheaper by the day and electronic pulse weapons. It would be more effective to try and make a glide bomb with cluster munitions that disperse far away from a target but are guided by the most basic flight controls. Or use small diameter bombs shaped to not reflect radio waves without adding stealth coating.
@Drew Peacock I'm not sure you understand. Just about everything you said should be on the drones are already on missles and glide bombs. We have surveillance drones and attack drones right now that cost more than actual fighter jets. What you are suggesting is basically a missle with different propulsion systems and made more complicated by giving it the ability to RTB
@Drew Peacock actually yes glide bombs can attack mobile targets. IR imaging and other targeting systems can the guide bomb/missle track a target by itself and the plane that launched it can use data links to feed it targeting info mid flight. We've had missiles that do this for 40 years glide bombs that do that for 25 and the SDB II can track moving targets aswell and only costs around $30k-$45k. In order for your drone idea to work the drones have to be able to fly at least 1000 miles and cost less than $250k then we have to engineer recovery systems for bombers which would add to the cost and having bombers loiter would waste fuel and be in danger of interception. If you ditch the bomber recovery system you have to double the range.
HARMs are already effective as they should be, they can air burst over targets and the decoy radar idea doesnt make sense we already know what chinese and Russian radars "sound like" and making a decoy radar is a waste because if you'd ad a few parts you can just have a real one. Half the mission of HARM missle is to force enemies to turn their radars off so we can get closer and kill the site with glide bombs and cheap SDB II.

Saying the US is solely focused on stealth is inaccurate. For example, the USAF just bought the new F15-EX/CX and their goal is to have it work alongside the F-35
Especially with how good the f35 and its engine is proving to be.
Those F-15 are being bought because the F-35 they planned to get instead is being produced very slowly.
@@Franfran2424 they also bought them to replace the aging F-15C/D fleet. In about 2 years the F15C will be retired

Sadly Kuwaiti news article worked to some extent. People with no military or even basic common sense used to tell me how Israeli aircrafts reached Iran. All I had to say was where did they get the fuel from ?
They could have easily refueled over iraq with a coalition tanker
@@_____Justin______ Iraqi's would leak info. Remember Iran has assets all over Iraq
@@_____Justin______ They do it all the time.
And no you wouldn't see them moron.
They refuel at high altitudes.
@ what a stupid comment. Refueling at altitude makes no difference to the radar cross section of an aircraft. No they do not refuel over Iraq "all the time" because Iraq refuses entry to the Israeli air force "all the time".
Considering you think Irans radar systems couldn't see a refuelling tanker because they are at altitude, kind of proves you are the moron...

@@LjubomirLjubojevic It won't work if covertCabal enables his stealth technology button :-)
Good grief. The U.S. is constantly upgrading other aircraft to fill many different roles. To say that they are putting all of their eggs in one basket is a ridiculous statement. Not the first one either.
for example the f15ex
Also arguing that the US in particular is putting a lot into stealth is strange. There isn’t a large power on the planet that isn’t currently spending billions developing new stealth aircraft or building them. The US just happens to have the most since they’ve been making them the longest.
Truth is that Israel don't need F-35 to knock off Iran in the air.
That's hilarious
Iran has f14
One day he'll change the background music and we'll all be confused.

It's the pauses in his speech, to match what he's saying with the footage. Obama pauses a lot for dramatic effect.
I wouldn't wish that curse on anyone.
An F35A is currently $78 Million not "over a 100 Million" as stated in this video. That's actually on par with a current Block 80 F16. Also yammering about a single F117 being lost (under very special circumstances) in 30 years of operation and thousands of combat sorties as if it means stealth does not work or is over rated is ignorant as well. Furthermore, the BOGUS argument that the US is putting all of it's eggs into the stealth basket is wrong as well. Yes of course all future US planes will be low observable but it does not end there. They also will be carrying very advanced electronic warfare capability greater than a Growler (F35 already does) to jam and attack enemy systems. They will also have advanced sensor fusion to fix enemy aircraft faster in a firing solution. They also will have deployable onboard decoys (like F35) that are tow-able and proven to be effective at drawing off even the most advanced missiles. They also, will be equipped with lasers, and defensive missiles that can lock after launch to attack aircraft even behind them. That is a LOT more than just stealth.
Not sure what things other nations can do that would be better than any of that. Stealth is just ONE part of US strategy in the air.
"US seem to be putting all their eggs on one basket" yeah that's the only basket they want you to know
what other secret technology do you think they have now?
@@alf3071 No one knows. But if we stay with Israel, they had the Pereh tank since 1980, and it was a secret for over 30 years. It was armed with 12 Spike missiles with 25 km range. Since it was based on the old M60, it would be no suprise if they had a new variant based on the Merkava/Namer chassis.

And if we talk about aircraft, no one knew about the Stealth Hawk which was used during the Bin Laden raid. And according to Ben Rich (former chief of Lockheed Skunk Works) they're way, way ahead. Like 20-30 years. All behind locked doors until anything similar comes up from the enemy.
They built some crazy stuff. Just look at the D-21 drone, which had its first flight in 1964. Had a speed of Mach 3.3 and a range of 5600km, and could fly autonomously (a pre programmed route) - and that isn't classified. Imagine what is.
Well, advanced hidden tech aside, it looks like USAF is going to diverge from high cost monolithic platforms in the not to distant future because it is unfeasible and to costly to develop and implement in a timely fashion. However, some of that hidden tech u guys are referring to did show up in the form of them announcing possibly a 6th gen prototype existing that was designed virtually not that long ago. Crazy times to b living in!
@@alf3071 6th gen fighters. Plus 5th gen trains with 4th gen in tandem to account for the low numbers. Their strategies are already aware of this. I used to talk to pilots everyday as i was a crew chief and launched them out. Was friends with a few as well since they were cool peeps with us.

In my opinion, the Republic of Azerbaijan will not give the base to Israel, because if Iran finds enough evidence to prove military cooperation, Azerbaijan will be hit hard.
They wouldn’t attack Azerbaijan directly as this would result in a war with turkey
@@tuxlinux5565 I do not know direct or indirect. But Iran is forced to strike at Azerbaijan in a way that none of its neighbors have thought of military cooperation with Israel for years. Even if has to be involved with Turkey for a while. Because if the answer is not heavy, this Act will be repeated.
@@ira5823 you’re right. However since turkey will be involved it’s very unlikely that they strike Azerbaijan.
@@tuxlinux5565 No country will go to war if there is no benefit.
Turkey supported Azerbaijan in the last war because of the gas pipeline from Azerbaijan to Turkey and the liberation from the leverage of Iran and Russia in the field of energy. Of course, Turkey has always wanted to invade Armenia and has committed a great genocide against them in history.
But the destructive power of Iran and its allied forces is so great that Saudi Arabia, with all its weapons, is now engaged in an erosive war because of Iran's support for the Houthis.
Turkey's military power is the size of the invasion of Iraq and Syria.

Time (specifically time enemy has to react) is the variable that must be crunched. Seeing you later reduces this, but speed does as well. Hypersonic craft and projectiles are going to be hard to deal with, as even unstealthy ones give little time for response.

Israel will use UAV or missile, why need an expensive plane to carry a missile?
Uav can be hacked Iran detected n hacked the rq170 its much more stealthy that the f35
missile limited range
Important point to note here is Iran was able to TRACK and then force land a stealth drone. That drone is a LOT stealthier than an F35.
Long wave radars can detect stealth targets from a long way off but are not good for targeting them. HOWEVER if you have a number of these radars then advanced DSP can paint a pretty good picture of the target and you can guide a missile towards it. This coupled with active radar/IR missiles and your stealth plane is going to have problems.
They just used a simple trick with GPS guidance where you make the drone think it's landing at a US airbase and not an Iranian one.
"Stealth is expensive, you can't afford to lose it." Not a problem for Israel, not when you have a pool of American taxpayer money.
Israel when they developing their own nuclear weapon : it is every country's right to development its own nuclear technology
Israel when iran developing thier own nuclear technology : wait that's illegal ( ͡ᵔ ͜ʖ ͡ᵔ )
