This engine has a huge amount of engine brake and speed control is second to none

I found that if the BL first cam shimming was done the engine never needed doing again. A fantastic engine that can be used in mk1 Landrover to give 36 MPG. It has ideal torque for that use and should not damage the running gear. 60 MPG in a Montago. Much better in some ways than VW TDi. Too many pipes on that one that let you down. All in all 72/81 BHP is enough. MDi fuel filter is very easy to change. Engine mount often moves if cambelt changed. Even 1 mm of clearence is enough. 0 mm isn't. Two Montegos and 250 000 miles never gave a single problem for a single second. Never used oil and not too fussy what you use. Castrol know these engines. Old GTX at 6000 miles was their advice. VW would not be able to use that ( VW 505 etc ).

These were superb engines. Correctly maintained could cover half a million miles easily.

One of the most reliable and economical diesel engines made. Shame the engine lasted longer than the car.

Great engine! Did it go into the LDV van? As we know it from the Sheppard van i believe?if that van was to be advertise all over the world or as a 9 seater on tv 📺 and being rear wheel drive great for towing make a camper out of it,it would sell great, i don't know such a good engine and vehicles didn't go head.
