This show is the one of the most needed shows ever... I am an educator and I just want those special afraid people to be supported... Every single character is amazing.. I couldn't agree more. I just found this show and binge watched it in two days. I wish i would have had such opportunities for love when I was in high school. I loved all the characters and Benji is so beautiful.
Just finished watching it and S3 wraps up the story so beautifully. It's still the same show since S1 with its amazing characters and core values, maybe just a little bit angsty cause things escalate a bit but personally I don't think the ending could've been any better. I don't like the word "perfect"; let's just say it was extremely well put together and ultimately satisfying to watch! Surely decades from now it'll be a timeless classic!

You've expressed my sentiments around this issue exactly One thing to consider is that actors who are gay in real life are selected over straight actors in real life for straight roles all the time. These gay actors wouldn't have much of a career if they only got roles as gay characters.
I feel Victor is going to choose Rahim. Season 2 has kind of thrown curveballs into the Venji relationship and was very Victor-centric in the drama. Benji only gets his turn on his birthday. They also made a bit of racial divide as well. Rahim seems to have been paralleled with early Victor. I think Rahim will get his man but not for long.
season 3....Victor and Benji are long over......Benji is too quick to push his beliefs onto Victor.....and not let Victor be himself at his pace.....Rahim...nah...they are 100% in the 'friend-zone'.....I don't think Victor will stay alone.....he's not that type...he needs someone......I think there will be a new love interest......a really laid back cutie, who's smart, driven and tolerant of religion......that would be a guy well suited for Victor.
The mystery of season 3 ... who is behind the door? Honestly, I have some gay friends, including one who is a middle school and high school classmate, but that doesn't mean I will reject them! Far from there ! To come back to "Love Victor", I recognize in Victor my college and high school friend, who did not really know who he was anymore, in a private and Catholic establishment ... I have always been like Felix, close to him and no prejudice. I find these 2 seasons very well interpreted by all the actors. Congratulations to everybody ! (er .. Adrian touched me a lot ... little guy full of attention for his big brother Victor). Roll on season 3! above all, do not change anything in your acting skills!

While I appreciate that Camino and Sear make "Love, Victor" accessible to a straight audience. The value to the gay community is in having gay actors play those roles so that when invariably a viewer looks up the actor's sexual orientation, it cements the idea that that people can be in loving, committed *happy* relationships. All too often media portrays gay relationships as tragedies in order to solicit sympathy for the gay community. The unintended concequence is that gay people often mistakenly see their potential for love as tragedies. Gay people need to tell gay stories for gay people. We need that.
You are 100% right about what you said regarding gay relationships and tragedies. Very well put also :) I couldn't disagree more though that only gay actors should portray gay characters. That would first of all be to practice discrimination based on sexual preference and would mean gay actors couldn't play straight roles, which would be equally outrageous. I think it's a great thing to mix it up because it contributes to erasing barriers for the less open minded. I used to think like you do about this, but have since i really thought it through come to realize it would be terribly counterproductive and be a huge step backwards. Secondly, while I personally, as a gay actor, have no problem with straight actors playing gay roles, to highlight the actors sexuality just to "praise him" in his performance is woefully misguided. I love this show, and all the actors involved but considering how many lgbtq+ characters there are, and only TWO have played by an actual LGBTQ actor (Tommy Dorfman, s1 and Nicholas Hamilton, s2-as a douche no less) really hurts the whole conversation that the show is SUPPOSED to be about...the struggle that queer kids go through every single day with their identity and their own mental and physical health. I love the show, I love the actors, but if you're gonna talk about behind the scenes info, and even calling it "dark" which I presume referred to the lead actor's death threats, you need to also recognize that the show does miss the mark in some important areas. Love, simon was marketed largely on it being the first major studio film about a gay teen, and this show was no different. And while they covered many topics VERY WELL (I love Victor's mom's journey), they missed some opportunities and glossed over some very important ones. When Rahim snaps back at the homophobic jerks outside the restaurant, I cheered, but I also cringed because it was just TOO NEAT.
Casting dept is sending the message that they can't find any competent gay actors or they don't look hard enough. We don't have a lot of openly gay leading men because they don't get cast. It is a self-serving quandary. I am tired of hearing that there aren't any good gay actors available to cast.
