Such a beautiful species and it lives in lovely places. I have not caught or seen one since the 1980s. I wish fishing clubs were more imaginative in their stocking of stillwaters. I really can not understand why anyone would want to catch F1 carp, ide or small stillwater barbel when they could be catching beautiful species such as crucians and rudd that actually belong in small English ponds. I know of many small ponds that would be ideal for stocking with true crucians, but the fishing clubs and landowners lack the will or the knowledge. Admittedly crucians can be tricky; they do not do well in mixed fisheries with lots of predators. I know a few pools where they were found thirty years ago, but seem to have died out. I have a desire to buy or rent my own pond for stocking with this beautiful species, even if it is a tiny water. It is an endangered species in Britain now. It would be very sad if it went the same way as the burbot.
