Wow..That's amazing how it seemed hollow below, yet healthy (solid) above. Is that common/ normal with oaks ? Thanks for sharing... Peace
Thanks Grant! Yes, the tree is, unfortunately, heading in the wrong direction. The leaf quantity at the top was several places poor. The reason why I had to look at the tree was because a large branch (ø30cm / 12inch) had broken off some days before :0( Stay safe ...have a nice weekend!

Thanks Soren, in Calif our parks post warning signs now of "sudden branch break syndrome" where in summer, no wind, branches of different type trees break off for no apparent reason...They even named it and admit they don't know why. It's very interesting, thanks again.
@@grantkeller8024 I have heard about such a phenomenon before but have not experienced it. It had something to do with extreme heat or cold ...it sounds like a walk in the park can be a bit too scary.
Is it very old ? Good for the biodiversity ? Will it last much longer ? Thanks .
Yes more than 250 years! Yes, already good for biodiversity, but dangerous! I would suggest a heavy pruning of the crown to relieve the fragile foundation! (....there is a beach terrace under the tree ... my daughter should not sunbathe there!!!!)
Soren Satellit : oh yes ! Safety first ! That's a crazy cavity ! Thanks.
