The reload is slow, because you're outside of power armor. Also, aiming for the body is perfectly fine most of the time too, because at most it will cost one extra shot. It's my absolute favorite heavy gun next to my gatling plasma (not legacy). Also, the plasma caster shot sound effect is addictive.
I have B/50/25. One of my favorite guns. One/two shots everything, crits bosses for 450+ depending on buffs, extremely ammo efficient. Hits around walls and cover and fairly consistently hits even at low vats hit chance percentiles.
Try it Surface to Air with covert operative. You can one shot the Scorchbeasts as soon as they spawn, and while that event runs another one will near instantly spawn. With 4 boxes I think I get like 1400ish XP per kill.
I barely differ from what you've said but as I have HOURS and WEEKS and MONTHS of time on this gun...: I still say Aligned sniper barrel is the way to go. If you're heavy is built right than hip fire with the caster is already surprisingly accurate with the sniper barrel. The small bonus you get from hip fire didn't feel worth it to me, and my heavy doesn't even use vats much at all. Just for this at long ranges. Headshots, bonus crit damage. BRUTAL! If I'm low health (just for defense on this guy) than the few hits before my stimpaks kick in are monstrous. A bloodied heavy could do some serious per shot damage with these things. I say quad quad and only quad. Vampires on this one seriously let me down. AA hits HARD! You need the faster reload if not going quad. My quad, 50 crit, 1a is the best roll I've had on it. Only thing better would be 25 less ap cost.
I play mainly a tank melee character, but I beat fallout 1 with caster so I use it on my second loadout it's great for full health builds as it still packs massive single shot punch.
I have a quad faster fire rate, faster reload one it shreds everything and is super fun and satisfying to use. Normal mobs up to supermutants get taken out with a nice free aim head shot , I never use mine in vats.
Another very informative video Turtle. Many thanks. I was lucky with my first roll, I got a 3 star PC with 30% damage to robots, 50% extra critical damage and 90% weight reduction. Put a prime receiver and sniper barrel on that. Then get into your PA and equip the stabilised perk and then you can say. "I'm sorry Bethesda, don't you have any more high level Super Mutants?" For sure, with this weapon even the tough robots go down like grass. And Sierra Bravos?? Pussies!
I have an AA/less vats cost one that I was enjoying. I use it in power armor, which is fine, because it saves me from having to use sneak cards which means I don't have to drastically change my build. Plus it stacks with stabilized, letting me drop most mobs fairly easily.
@Adrian Rogers that would be pretty cool! Sorta like a plasma gatling gun! But bethesda would do something to reduce the damage or accuracy, like always.
My J3390RW Plasma Caster pretty much always hits in VATS. It hits accuracy cap at all but long range (i.e. flying scorchbeast) though. Not saying you're wrong, but it's likely something else in the game causing and issue (connection or servers you are connecting to?) rather than it being outright broken.

Hi turtle. I craft 10 of them and get one with bloodied, 33 vats and 15 crit meter fill. 1 out of every 2 shoots is crit and it's melting the super mutants :) it's my favorite weapon now. thank you for this great introduction video.

ive been using this for a month now was with pa but the fusion cores drained so much i went back to a bloody no pa absolutely loving it would love to see a new updated guide with energy weapons and the rework
Unfortunately every player the can loot from it needs to interact with it not just the shooter, all nearby team members and any other players that got damage need to also. Sucks, they need to disable goo totally I think.
legendary scorch beasts should be immun for goo like the queen. you NEVER find the goo pile too loot the (possible) 3 star legendary even if 10 Players are searching. NEEEEEEEEEEEEVER !!!!^^
@@Slybby Its because if you use an energy weapon, laser or plasma, to kill a flying scorchbeast it will turn into a ash pile or goo pile in the air, where it died, it won't fall to the ground. The pile will float in mid-air.
When I started getting better under armor resistances; I got a lot of cobalt flux. About 40 extra. When I got the plans for this gun; I made it prime. When I crafted the ammo I had maxed out perks and ammo factory; it was a big mistake. I ended up with over 10000 rounds for a gun that has a mag capacity of 20... a year later with that gun as a secondary, I'm just above 1000 rounds. when I fire the last round; I will be done with that weapon.
I have a Bloodied, Hits Chance, +1P that I just adore. I think I have had to craft Ultracite Plasma cartridges only once, and that because I was hitting the fissure sites during the last Holiday Scorched event really hard. My Luck is over 33, and sometimes I have had Scorchedbeasts completely vaporize, denying me their loot, if I kill them too fast. So, I either finish them off with a grenade launcher or let them make another pass before the final shot.
Actually, their plasma splat will usually be floating in the sky, but it's not textured on the bottom, so you can't see it unless you jet-pack above it. 😕

I have a Vampire's/%33/%25 and I've been trying to roll for a good Anti-Armor or Instigating, never got any AA and only a 1 star Instigating that I used to run around with a lot too, but maybe I should just keep myself to the V/33/25 and call it a day?
so you convinced me to give it a go...got the plans and mods....first one out...3 star Anti-armor 25% less VATS....plus bashing damage....but, yeh...so far, pretty nice!!
I have Bloodie/50/25 Caster. Supreme for lazy VAT man. Aim for head can do up to 1200~1400 dmg and can do 200+ dmg per hit to Queen. You can farm UTC bullets in Daily Ops (except cloaking enemy day).
I did the vault witb a level 49 build with a two shot the dragon, a regular black powder rifle, tbe fixer, a gauss rifle (i actually really enjoyed using this weapon.) And a 2 shot m79 launcher. Wish it was a auto launcher but ill take what i can get lol. Cant wait to make my plasma caster. Its gonna be beautiful
I figured out how fun this one can be. Instigating, extra bash damage and some other perk that doesn’t really matter. Instigating on this is great with heavy vats build. I’m able to one shot everything. And two shots if someone damages them and removes the 100% health effect. My only gripe is how much vats burns through fusion cores. But it’s so easy to stock up on them that it doesn’t matter anyways.
If it weren't for your detailed explanation on mods; I would definitely miss the nuance on barrel mods and Vats&Hip fire purposes. Thank you very much Turtle.

I have tried to manufacture these blasters to scrap for modifications. It seems because it is a stared gun, it can not be scraped. I can only make a new gun, sell it at a train station and spend bullion for modules to try for a better gun. I think Minerva scammed me and is in cahoots with Bethesda.
This one along with the Flamer are my most used heavies probably. You just have to get used to the Caster. Like when using it outside of VATS you have to stop moving before taking a shot or it will deviate so bad you think it's bugged. Actually, it does that from time to time even when standing still lol.. Regardless, it's a very potent weapon that should be in every heavy gunners toolbox.
In Scorched earth event i did score some 2,3k heasdshots with that thing. (bloody, vats shot, not crit on a L75 Scorched Warrior) Sadly they are scarce and normally the headshots do around 1,6k on Scorched Warriors. (with full damage perks and adrenaline etc) So i only have a couple of these numbers screenshots.
I use ammo perks and super duper when I craft my ultracite ammo so I end up with plenty. I was lucky enough to get a bloodied version on my second try crafting and its now my most used weapon. Its truly amazing imho.
I thought I got lucky with a Mu/50/25 for a crit build, but the VATS accuracy is pretty bad. Add in the VATS Crits not registering properly ("it just works") and their health bar resetting, it got put in the STASH, can't fix that
Just got the caster a few days ago my very first roll I got bloodied 50 vats hit chance faster aim speed haha it's my new favorite weapon one shots almost every creature besised the really tanky ones. Accuracy is insane as well I love it.
I have a few plasma casters.. they are useful but i just can't get into it due to those bloody annoying goo piles... i hate those goo and ash piles soooooooo much xD Thanks for the explanation of the best way to use the weapon... I'll check my casters and see what I need to change :)
PC is my main heavy weapon to run around with. The low ammo usage is too good to resist in comparison only rivaled by the gatling gun. If I had a good gat gun that might change.

For my full health PA heavy build I managed to roll an AA/10/15r plasma caster couple of days ago. This thing SHREDS. I probably spent all my luck on it, but it's alright, it's my main weapon from now on.

In my opinion instigating is the best legendary effect on this weapon I'm not bloodied so that consistently gets me one shots on every basic mob in the game and honestly you shouldnt be using this weapon against bosses anyways since it has a slower TTK so instigating , vats hit chance is my preference but if I get aim down sights 25% extra damage I'm not going to complain :)
Got 1 star zealot's plasma caster with prime receiver and aligned sniper barrel today. I just melted the scorchedbeast queen in like a minute or two, wtf. No heavy gunner perks since I currently use 33 luck bloodied rifleman. It's so strong like a 60% charged gauss rifle while sneaking (my AA50c25 gauss have 491 dmg), very ammo efficient just like my gauss rifle too. I use it to farm ultracite plasma cartridge for my AA plasma flamer in daily ops.

On my main character she has a q/33/25 plasma caster that she never uses because she's a commando build however on my heavy gunner he has a q/ffr caster that he's been using non stop as of late...I wish there was a way that I could move that q/33/25 to my heavy gunner :p
If you have f1st you can get a on a private server, put it in a suitcase at a train station and swap chars to grab because private servers stays up for about 10 min after you leave it. Or you can have a friend join you in a pub, store the item at a station, and rejoin your friend, can also be done solo or with a public team, but riskier because you might not get back on to the server before it disappears or you can leave the public team by accident/get kicked.
I would assume you were right about not being able to transfer it as it’s a crafted weapon. I’ve had a gauss leggy shotgun drop and am going to see if I can transfer that as it’s not crafted. Fingers crossed.
I have the same crafting specs and mine is 3-star, Assassin’s Prime Plasma Caster, +50% human damage, +250 damage resistance w/reloading, and bashing increased 50%. My damage and energy at 95. How did you get your damage and energy so high?
with all my perks i get x540 on ultracite ammo. and crap for plain ammo..then with super-duper, 10 cobalt flux got me 5k rounds for it. AND THEY ARE HEAVY AS GET OUT BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED IS A MUST.
@@tigeryumyums9407 In the live game as of right now there's no legendary Power Armor crafting but, it was in the public test server (PTS) initially and Bethesda took it away as a possible drop in the most recent PTS update. So if things stay the same when we get the ability to craft legendary Power Armor in July 7th update it will not have a chance to drop as Unyielding prefix. :(
I think Unyielding power armor would have been a bit to OP, this weapon still rocks on a VATS build. Mine is an AA/25ffr/15r. That 33% would be amazing, in the future that will even be 50%!
Not really, I tried both and the long barrel is great in and out of vats because of the high accuracy. If you use vats alot, and do alot of long distance shots, the other barrel may be better for you. I shoot in and out of vats, depending on the situation, the long barrel accuracy can't be beat... for me.
I love my plasma caster but it doesn't have the range that my gatling gun has, so at SBQ I switch to the gatling gun to make sure I tag all the enemies that spawn in the area.
Rolled two decent vampires a few days ago. They both have +25% less AP but one has+25% faster fire rate, the other has +50% VATS accuracy. Problem is having the space to keep them.😂
Will solar armor be able to roll overeater in next update? And will the caster be able to roll gourmand? Lone wanderer stack with overeater? If this all works out I can see a really strong solo heavy vats build for farming/events.
I just accidentally rerolled my bloodied faster fire rate vats cost less plasma caster and I don’t think this game is ever going to be the same anymore. Especially since it was my favorite gun
It's a shame that it uses regular plasma cartridges. I thought it was like a replacement for the plasma gatling (which I don't like at all) using the same plasma cores, and for some reason I stock up on tons of that ammo.
I could only make 1 of my casters with a prime barrel and i chose my 3 star bloodies over my 2 star vampire one, I didnt get a good roll on the 2 star...but i will keep trying..
Will steel reign improve condition for the plasma caster? At first I was planning on using my vamp caster for add clear and pepper shaker for bosses. But I noticed I can play several sessions without repairing my vamp gauss shotgun. But the caster only lasts an hour with gunsmith5. I like gauss shotgun and plasma caster a lot for vats builds. But to me the caster feels way more consistent. Not to mention safer while in nerd rage. Especially with rushing mobs.
Still worth using if you don't have room for the Vats perks on your build??? I would have to move 3 points from agility, losing action girl, just to get the luck points for better criticals. Is it worth it? I'm a P.A. heavy gunner and run low health. I rolled a Vampire's, faster fire rate, faster reload when it launched and used it a little but stashed it due to the very slow rate of fire. Looks like you need the Vats perks to truly benefit from using this weapon much like the base Gatling laser.
@Angry Turtle: Would you know if this weapon was affected in any way by the latest update? I could be wrong, but today while I was out and about doing daily challenges and leveling up, I swear that my 2 shot plasma caster seemed to be nerfed--at least a little bit. Enemies weren't falling at the same pace that I used see them go down with that weapon. I'm pretty certain that all of my Perk cards were the same as always.

Yeah, bloodied or AA definitely runs best with the caster I agree - also I noticed running the grim reaper perk helps a lot with the AP issue

The only thing I wish the plasma caster had is a splitter barrel and automatic receiver and/or a plasma core conversion
Seems to be a heavy gun for non power armored players. Probably an amazing weapon with a Vats crit, heavy gunner, stealth build.
It is, but the flamer is still better.
I had a Bloodied Vats hit chance Caster for my lazy vats heavy gunner when I was playing on PS4. Now I hope to get one on PC as well!
Just crafted about 30 modules worth and ended up getting 3 good rolls! Two Shot, AA, and a Quad Plasma Caster!!
If they added an automatic version of the caster I would go back to using one

That's a random bug with all ranged weapons in the game, I can regularly have 95% chance to hit, then miss, miss then hit.
I had that bug when I used to play a rifleman sniper. I guess it's still in the game :(

Bash is kinda undesirable but the weapon durability is boosted with it.

@@Slybby On the PS4 they disappear but I find them on the ground often just but scanning the ground.
@@Slybby SB are easy, just fast travel and the bodies will fall on top of you.

Perfect weapon to farm ammo for a plasma flamer, i'm lucky for having a quad ffr with 250dr while reloading 🙂

Another great video sir. If you hit Lode Baring every time it pops. The walls are full of copper ore. I don't have a copper problems anymore.

i love my b/33/+1A caster. rocking it with 33 luck and crit savy in VATS turns it into a MONSTER
In Scorched earth event i did score some 2,3k heasdshots with that thing. (bloody, vats shot, not crit on a L75 Scorched Warrior)
Sadly they are scarce and normally the headshots do around 1,6k on Scorched Warriors. (with full damage perks and adrenaline etc) So i only have a couple of these numbers screenshots.
Wow, pulse capacitor might be the single most useless mod in the game.

@@hermos3602 It's a bug. It makes it a projectile weapon. It's not completely OP but it's great fun to use. It is pretty strong.
I use ammo perks and super duper when I craft my ultracite ammo so I end up with plenty. I was lucky enough to get a bloodied version on my second try crafting and its now my most used weapon. Its truly amazing imho.
I thought I got lucky with a Mu/50/25 for a crit build, but the VATS accuracy is pretty bad. Add in the VATS Crits not registering properly ("it just works") and their health bar resetting, it got put in the STASH, can't fix that
Absolute beast with the right build. VATS is a must.
Just got the caster a few days ago my very first roll I got bloodied 50 vats hit chance faster aim speed haha it's my new favorite weapon one shots almost every creature besised the really tanky ones. Accuracy is insane as well I love it.
I have a few plasma casters.. they are useful but i just can't get into it due to those bloody annoying goo piles... i hate those goo and ash piles soooooooo much xD

i got the plans from minerva as well.
PC is my main heavy weapon to run around with. The low ammo usage is too good to resist in comparison only rivaled by the gatling gun. If I had a good gat gun that might change.

For my full health PA heavy build I managed to roll an AA/10/15r plasma caster couple of days ago. This thing SHREDS. I probably spent all my luck on it, but it's alright, it's my main weapon from now on.

I got blessed with an aa50c15v as a random reward from daily ops and it absolutely shreds it’s in my top 3 favorite weapons
I have a two shot, use it all all the time, it's so much fun.
In my opinion instigating is the best legendary effect on this weapon I'm not bloodied so that consistently gets me one shots on every basic mob in the game and honestly you shouldnt be using this weapon against bosses anyways since it has a slower TTK so instigating , vats hit chance is my preference but if I get aim down sights 25% extra damage I'm not going to complain :)

Got 1 star zealot's plasma caster with prime receiver and aligned sniper barrel today. I just melted the scorchedbeast queen in like a minute or two, wtf. No heavy gunner perks since I currently use 33 luck bloodied rifleman. It's so strong like a 60% charged gauss rifle while sneaking (my AA50c25 gauss have 491 dmg), very ammo efficient just like my gauss rifle too. I use it to farm ultracite plasma cartridge for my AA plasma flamer in daily ops.
I also have a vampire 10 damage while aiming faster movement while aiming that I'm saving for the buff on Hitmans effect.
I just roald my first proper god roal on the plazma caster it's a quad 25% faster fier rate -90% weight I think I still want a instigating one but there very op

On my main character she has a q/33/25 plasma caster that she never uses because she's a commando build however on my heavy gunner he has a q/ffr caster that he's been using non stop as of late...I wish there was a way that I could move that q/33/25 to my heavy gunner :p
If you have f1st you can get a on a private server, put it in a suitcase at a train station and swap chars to grab because private servers stays up for about 10 min after you leave it. Or you can have a friend join you in a pub, store the item at a station, and rejoin your friend, can also be done solo or with a public team, but riskier because you might not get back on to the server before it disappears or you can leave the public team by accident/get kicked.
@@cdawg145236 I don't think that trick works with plasma casters, gauss miniguns/shotguns/pistols or the Crusader pistols.
I would assume you were right about not being able to transfer it as it’s a crafted weapon. I’ve had a gauss leggy shotgun drop and am going to see if I can transfer that as it’s not crafted. Fingers crossed.

I have the same crafting specs and mine is 3-star, Assassin’s Prime Plasma Caster, +50% human damage, +250 damage resistance w/reloading, and bashing increased 50%. My damage and energy at 95. How did you get your damage and energy so high?
I would get one, but I need the modules for legendary crafting. Overeaters Hellcat PA wont get itself
with all my perks i get x540 on ultracite ammo. and crap for plain ammo..then with super-duper, 10 cobalt flux got me 5k rounds for it. AND THEY ARE HEAVY AS GET OUT BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED IS A MUST.

@@tigeryumyums9407 In the live game as of right now there's no legendary Power Armor crafting but, it was in the public test server (PTS) initially and Bethesda took it away as a possible drop in the most recent PTS update. So if things stay the same when we get the ability to craft legendary Power Armor in July 7th update it will not have a chance to drop as Unyielding prefix. :(
I think Unyielding power armor would have been a bit to OP, this weapon still rocks on a VATS build. Mine is an AA/25ffr/15r. That 33% would be amazing, in the future that will even be 50%!
They drop from events/legendary enemies once you know the plans, same with ss gear and gauss shotgun. But its not common

Not really, I tried both and the long barrel is great in and out of vats because of the high accuracy. If you use vats alot, and do alot of long distance shots, the other barrel may be better for you. I shoot in and out of vats, depending on the situation, the long barrel accuracy can't be beat... for me.
It’s a fine gun. It conserves ammo nicely and does a great deal of damage.
I’ve used a lot of Plasma Casters but my two shot with 50% vats hit chance is my personal favorite ..
is plasma caster considered silent? can it be used for stealth builds?
I love my plasma caster but it doesn't have the range that my gatling gun has, so at SBQ I switch to the gatling gun to make sure I tag all the enemies that spawn in the area.

Rolled two decent vampires a few days ago. They both have +25% less AP but one has+25% faster fire rate, the other has +50% VATS accuracy. Problem is having the space to keep them.😂
i just got the caster plan and got real lucky with a vampire's vats crit caster on my like 3rd or 4th roll
I would surely like any sights option as one there is is so badly looking in my opinion

Will solar armor be able to roll overeater in next update? And will the caster be able to roll gourmand? Lone wanderer stack with overeater?
If this all works out I can see a really strong solo heavy vats build for farming/events.
I just accidentally rerolled my bloodied faster fire rate vats cost less plasma caster and I don’t think this game is ever going to be the same anymore. Especially since it was my favorite gun

It's a shame that it uses regular plasma cartridges. I thought it was like a replacement for the plasma gatling (which I don't like at all) using the same plasma cores, and for some reason I stock up on tons of that ammo.
I could only make 1 of my casters with a prime barrel and i chose my 3 star bloodies over my 2 star vampire one, I didnt get a good roll on the 2 star...but i will keep trying..
Will steel reign improve condition for the plasma caster? At first I was planning on using my vamp caster for add clear and pepper shaker for bosses. But I noticed I can play several sessions without repairing my vamp gauss shotgun. But the caster only lasts an hour with gunsmith5.
I like gauss shotgun and plasma caster a lot for vats builds. But to me the caster feels way more consistent. Not to mention safer while in nerd rage. Especially with rushing mobs.

Still worth using if you don't have room for the Vats perks on your build??? I would have to move 3 points from agility, losing action girl, just to get the luck points for better criticals. Is it worth it? I'm a P.A. heavy gunner and run low health. I rolled a Vampire's, faster fire rate, faster reload when it launched and used it a little but stashed it due to the very slow rate of fire. Looks like you need the Vats perks to truly benefit from using this weapon much like the base Gatling laser.
i use instigating 25aim 90. i think instigating in the plasma caster is very good

@Angry Turtle: Would you know if this weapon was affected in any way by the latest update? I could be wrong, but today while I was out and about doing daily challenges and leveling up, I swear that my 2 shot plasma caster seemed to be nerfed--at least a little bit. Enemies weren't falling at the same pace that I used see them go down with that weapon. I'm pretty certain that all of my Perk cards were the same as always.
