    I gotta laugh at all this. I knew Billy in Portland before he was a wrestler. I met him working out in the weight room of the YMCA not far from his house. He took me home and I met his blind dad. We gambled a LOT at the Multnomah Valley Kennel Club up in that private room above the crowd. An that's total bullshit about "how he knew a little boxing". He was Oregon State Amateur Champion and Golden Gloves. He had promo posters bills of himself in a boxer's stance on the walls of his room. We'd go fight down on Burnside sometimes and he was a force of nature, even @215lbs. We were born on the same day, same hr and same yr. He was a hell of a nice guy. But he definitely had a crazy 'ON' button that you didn't want to push without knowing the consequences. I left Portland and I knew nothing about his wrestling career. In fact, when somebody showed him to me on the TV, it was hard for me to recognize him....like 70lbs later and probably on 'roids. We had some conversations about drugs back then, before his career....we smoked some weed together. He knew I wasn't into anything stronger....but there was a side of him in that stuff I didn't want to know. You gotta understand though, it was hard times there in Portland without a good education and he didn't have that. He had a good job at a book depository but lost it when he got caught screwing his GF there late one night. He was just like that about life....did what he wanted to, thought about the consequences later. The guy you all thought you knew in the ring and the tales about the kids being killed in Arkansas.....I don't know what to say. That's not the Bill I knew.

    • @PhilAndersonOutside
      @PhilAndersonOutside 2 года назад +3

      Good post. Billy was reportedly a one-time sparring partner for Ron Lyle. I haven’t heard anyone dispute this, including Lyle when he was alive, so I assumed it was true. One doesn’t simply climb into a ring with someone like Lyle, even sparring, without knowing how to legitimately fight. No way.

    • @TheReal1953
      @TheReal1953 Год назад +4

      @@PhilAndersonOutside I saw his promotional boxing posters in his room and the trophies. Bill was the real deal when it came to boxing. And we did a lot of street fighting in Portland....if Bill had my back, I knew most likely I'd be able to return home that night. After that, I left the area and he became 'Billy Jack'. That part of the story I know nothing about....just the background before. These old wrestlers that are saying Bill 'might' know something about boxing or they 'heard' he might know how to box are just showing their ignorance. He told me about his boxing career as I was standing in his room. I was overwhelmed and he might have mentioned Lyle or maybe not....just don't remember that part. I don't remember talking about his boxing much after that...he was not trying to impress me with it....just matter-of-fact for the dues in it, if that makes any sense.

      @@TheReal1953 I don't think anyone ever questioned his legitimate toughness. Do you know anything about the fight he got into outside a bar in McMinville (Oregon City? I myself am from the Portland area! I worked out at Billy Jack's Gym and was there for the grand opening when he had Hulk Hogan there and others! It was shut down because of cocaine dealing and steroids! An investigation went down as the police station sat in the same parking lot just ft away! It didn't even last a year under his name before things went down! After that, it switched to Oregon City Gym! This was in 88 89? Billy always was a very nice guy!

    Love you Hannibal and not in a gay way you are the the best wrestler who never made it as main event talent but you would be my champ if I had Tony Kahn money

    Ok people wrestling past is very complicated. Take everything with a grain of salt. But trust me it's a lot dirtier than you think!!!!! I was there. Not all of your hero's are worthy.

    Billy Jack was a loyal friend, like so many wrestlers, unlike Hulk Hogan and Brett Hart who went back to Vince after he killed Brett s loyal good little brother Owen

    Not saying Austin did or didn't abuse Debra, but just because the case didn't go to court weather by Debra's own accord or not, doesn't mean that Austin didn't strike her & again, I wasn't there but "if" Austin did in fact strike her in any way, we'll never know since it never went to court. And no, I'm not taking sides one way or the other. Just saying.

    Half these wrestlers sound brain dead. Yet it's always entertaining listening to Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, who actually sounds intelligent, and was the most talented wrestlers I've ever watched when l was a kid (l actually routed for him vs Hulk Hogan in 85).

      Funny too, because Valentine didnt seem like all that of an intelligent guy when I watched him as a kid. He does seem pretty well spoken though.
