    He's back. And I'm here for it. I started watching Mark years ago for his no bullshit assessment of vehicles. Well, that, and he's still the only one to throw a car on a lift and go over the technical aspects. I've seen him rave about $20k cars and shit on $80k cars because he actually takes price into consideration.

      @@seanm3ify Back in the day, when the Goose reviewed a car as disposable as this EQB, he would absolutely drag it. No sugarcoating, no pulling punches. Check out his video for the 2017 Escape. Just brutal.
      As his channel has grown, he's held back some of that contempt so that he doesn't get completely blacklisted, among other reasons. I completely understand why, too. He is forced to market himself. Still, it was refreshing to see him give a little piece of his mind in this video. That's all I meant by "he's back".

      And that's why I love those guys too. It's not just "oh I hate this car because it's an EV and I hate EVs", No, it's taking the big picture into account. It's really great to see their point of view on this one especially if you check other reviews of this car, they are quite positive as they missed the point but Mark nailed it right away. If you know anyone that might be interested in this EQB, they must see this video before doing anything.
      Once again, Thank you Savage Geese for what you're doing.

    This is the rip that Mercedes needed to hear. The way it works with most journalists is they supply cars on the condition that you have to praise the cars to get more cars to review, and to be invited on free junkets in exotic places to launch new cars which you are, again, required to praise. It's cash and perks for comments. But Mercedes need to hear real feedback sometimes or else they will lose touch with reality. If they want to stay relevant into the future, they need to listen to people like Mark who they know will give it to them straight.

    That explanation at the end of the video is exactly how I've been feeling about the whole automotive industry. Along with the video on the current car market trends and how it might destroy itself have been major deterrents for me wanting to get new vehicles. The more I see coming out, the more I just feel that Mark is spot on that these are all "transition" vehicles that are place holders. So many modern cars get the electronics, infotainment, etc. just wrong in ways that don't make any sense and throw in half baked features that they won't fix because the next generation will be better (incentive for people to trade in their car).

    While Mark makes this point often, the tansitionsry period of the market makes current products unappealing. Current EVs may be useless in 10 years due to charging infrastructure, especially on the public charger side where prices increase (offsetting a major benefit). Buying a new gas car could leave you with a car payment and high taxes/fuel cost in a few years. These half assed models won't retain any sort of value when you finally want to get something better (like a 1st gen Leaf was worthless after a few years).
    I really wanted a maverick or whatever Toyota comes out with for my homestead, but I've been making my older cars work somehow, because who would buy in this market.

      Many current EV's will be perfectly adequate in 10 years, just like a 2013 model S is now. However, these cars are crazy expensive to design, so many manufacturers also make shit like this EQB. For 60k it competes with model Y which absolutely destroys this. Tesla interior might not be brilliant, but B class isnt either so 🤷‍♀

    Couldn’t agree more. I drove a GLB250 for a couple of months now and for an appliance, it’s very useful and nice for the $40k price. This EQB shit takes that, adds $20k and makes everything worse about it. Happy Mark said it. I don’t know who this is for. When I was in for my front suspension cradle recall work on the GLB the salesman was trying to sell me on the EQB and I actually laughed in his face. The vehicle makes no sense over the GLB250

    It’s for real estate agents. They probably drive at most on average 100 to 150 miles in a day. They feel in their industry you have to drive a pretty nice car to convey a level of success you’re having. They can pile in their clients. It’s super quiet so they can have conversations with them about the house they just saw or the one they’re about to go see. In the limited range of this vehicle is more than enough to cover their daily journey, where they can then charge it back up at home for the next day. Every car has a purpose.

    I loved the ev discussion here. For me, the ev market is viable when the charging is under 15 minutes, 450+ miles of range minimum, battery deterioration is either very little or it is replaceable for dirt cheap, and they aren’t $10,000 to $25,000 more expensive than a gas powered vehicle.

    • @DadDrums1015
      @DadDrums1015 Год назад

      @Donovan Lewis in city driving is one thing. But if I wanna go somewhere that’s 400+ miles away, I couldn’t make it one trip unless I start adding in extra time to the trip. I think you’re assuming my mindset, but I could argue your mindset is too limited. Why couldn’t EV vehicles down the road have recharging tech where as you are driving, the car is able to generate more electricity to the point where the gap between input vs output is shorter, thus elongating the driving distance? This would reduce charging time, using less electricity, and is a net benefit where the longer you drive the more distance you can go.

    • @DadDrums1015
      @DadDrums1015 Год назад

      @Donovan Lewis why would it have to be expensive? Put a battery pack in with 280 mile range (at today's cost, even though it could be cheaper down the road) and implement tech that receives 50% of it's range back while driving and you're in the mid 400's? That extra tech could cost more at the start, but could get cheaper over the years.
      I don't see how EVs in the future couldn't implement a recharge platform that works as you drive. They've already put solar panels on them (and yes I know its like 2 miles of return a day in sunny conditions, but it's an early start). In my mind, if an EV can't at least match what a gas/hybrid car can do, it is not worth buying one.

Ambient lighting , exterior lighting, screens, piano gloss plastics, carbon bits that are added for weight saving , cost cutting on suspension, reliability testing, fixing known software bugs afterwards etc.. Just like any other business : focus on the most uninformed / dumb customers and appeal to the inner child that likes blinky lights.

    Viewers of this wonderful channel notwithstanding, most people’s car buying decisions are driven by only a handful of factors: sedan or SUV? ICE, hybrid or electric? Do I care about the social status that the car portrays? That’s pretty much it. The EQB exists because it’s an electric SUV that checks the “status” box for the average person. Most people couldn’t discern whether or not a car drives well even if they thought it mattered to them. Like Mark says, it’s an appliance whose job it is to take you from point A to point B.

    Honestly this is perfectly fine for most of California, and the Seattle or Portland Metro areas. Maybe not Seattle because they get so many days around freezing or below. But here in Portland OR it would be fine. The range hit wouldn't be that bad. The whole metro isn't very wide, and very few people drive it end to end in a day. Most folks have a 7-20 mile commute with one or two hills. That's it.
    The range would be enough to do the Portland-Seattle run without charging in the summer and maybe one stop in below 45F weather or heavy rain. It's enough to do Portland to the coast comfortably. It's enough to get to Hood River, Mt. Hood, Eugene, or even east of the Cascades to Bend (with one QC stop). So that's enough for most folks.
    But the pricing is silly. Knock $10K off the price and it becomes very sellable.
