It is refreshing to watch an honest review. Governments shouldn’t rush the internal combustion engine limitations because clearly the car manufacturers aren’t ready. Limited number of EVs on the market and you need to line up for long time to get one in Canada.
Crazy to think that just 30 or so years ago they were making the most insanely well-built and long-lasting cars money could buy, and then they willingly threw that away and started building cars like this one. Great video, just subscribed!
Let me say till early 2000s Mercedes and BMW cars were phenomenal machines. Then started the downhill path. I was a huge fan of German engineering for many decades, but today I would never buy this piece of junk. If I was forced to buy an EV I would rather buy a Tesla or BYD.

God bless you gents. This is one of the most sincere car review I've heard all year. This rush to full EV feels rushed, resulting in a lot of companies putting out ThrashEV just to meet up regulations. It's so sad.

These electric EQBs are really big here in Germany, but I’m also seeing a ton of buyers remorse. I think the charm of an electric Benz quickly wears off when winter starts to set in. Ironically, I’ve also seen a LOT of Teslas on the road here.
I think a lot of people have general EV remorse in Europe since they are crazy expensive to buy, the range in winter and on the motorway is horrible and now that electricity is so expensive they are not cheap to run either.
Jack's right. I'm on the west coast with a 20 mile commute and would like something a bit more upscale than a KIA EV. The EQB would seem to fit that bill without costing $100K large. Mark is also right, the EQB is completely disposable and way over priced. There's very few vehicles in the premium (not ultra luxury) EV market right now that justifies a $20K mark-up over it's gas counterpart.
200-ish miles would be fine for my commuter, too. Charge it maybe twice a week at home and I'm good. But still, this is awfully big and expensive to just carry me to the office. And yeah, I get the sense that it'll be more outdated in five years than a gas car. I expect that I've already bought my final gas car, but I don't want to settle for this midway point in EVs, either.

Couldn’t agree more. I drove a GLB250 for a couple of months now and for an appliance, it’s very useful and nice for the $40k price. This EQB shit takes that, adds $20k and makes everything worse about it. Happy Mark said it. I don’t know who this is for. When I was in for my front suspension cradle recall work on the GLB the salesman was trying to sell me on the EQB and I actually laughed in his face. The vehicle makes no sense over the GLB250
It’s for real estate agents. They probably drive at most on average 100 to 150 miles in a day. They feel in their industry you have to drive a pretty nice car to convey a level of success you’re having. They can pile in their clients. It’s super quiet so they can have conversations with them about the house they just saw or the one they’re about to go see. In the limited range of this vehicle is more than enough to cover their daily journey, where they can then charge it back up at home for the next day. Every car has a purpose.
Dear lord, this video drained the life out of Mark faster than my wife's boyfriend drained my bank account on their trip to Maui. Someone send out an S.O.S(2000) pronto.
I support Mark’s comments. Say it like it is. If they didn’t want to get called out for it then don’t make it. MB struggling to differentiate at the low end with how nice all the manufacturers are producing.
Sadly, this thing might sell well for those who can't really afford it, but are stretching for the EV and Mercedes brand prestige... Otherwise, there are MUCH better options for both EV and CUVs from other brands at this price point.
This isn't the first video I've seen were they talk about the milage dropping in half in cold weather. I guess California suits didn't think of that for half the country and Canada for the he'll of it
Love the video. I think manufacturers need time to iterate and see what works and what doesn’t in the EV market. Manufacturers know this and governments know this. There will be some poor products that emerge during the transition and I’m glad you touched on that aspect.
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is really doing far better in creating all new EVs and in adapting existing platforms to electric at both ends of the market. When it comes to styling new EVs, Mercedes is at the tail end of the pack.
I loved the ev discussion here. For me, the ev market is viable when the charging is under 15 minutes, 450+ miles of range minimum, battery deterioration is either very little or it is replaceable for dirt cheap, and they aren’t $10,000 to $25,000 more expensive than a gas powered vehicle.
@Donovan Lewis in city driving is one thing. But if I wanna go somewhere that’s 400+ miles away, I couldn’t make it one trip unless I start adding in extra time to the trip. I think you’re assuming my mindset, but I could argue your mindset is too limited. Why couldn’t EV vehicles down the road have recharging tech where as you are driving, the car is able to generate more electricity to the point where the gap between input vs output is shorter, thus elongating the driving distance? This would reduce charging time, using less electricity, and is a net benefit where the longer you drive the more distance you can go.
@Donovan Lewis why would it have to be expensive? Put a battery pack in with 280 mile range (at today's cost, even though it could be cheaper down the road) and implement tech that receives 50% of it's range back while driving and you're in the mid 400's? That extra tech could cost more at the start, but could get cheaper over the years. I don't see how EVs in the future couldn't implement a recharge platform that works as you drive. They've already put solar panels on them (and yes I know its like 2 miles of return a day in sunny conditions, but it's an early start). In my mind, if an EV can't at least match what a gas/hybrid car can do, it is not worth buying one.
@@DadDrums1015 right now with my job and available infrastructure I agree with your EV desires as well. I have a 50 mile commute and drive for an additional 100+ miles a day 5/6 days a week. I think it would be cool to have more options but my rural community doesn't have that type of backing.
I enjoy watching the reviews on crappy cars as much as the good ones, way to keep it real guys! I don't know why you guys don't have at least a million subscribers by now.
I agree and really like where the car industry is going. Ambient lighting , exterior lighting, screens, piano gloss plastics, carbon bits that are added for weight saving , cost cutting on suspension, reliability testing, fixing known software bugs afterwards etc.. Just like any other business : focus on the most uninformed / dumb customers and appeal to the inner child that likes blinky lights.
Viewers of this wonderful channel notwithstanding, most people’s car buying decisions are driven by only a handful of factors: sedan or SUV? ICE, hybrid or electric? Do I care about the social status that the car portrays? That’s pretty much it. The EQB exists because it’s an electric SUV that checks the “status” box for the average person. Most people couldn’t discern whether or not a car drives well even if they thought it mattered to them. Like Mark says, it’s an appliance whose job it is to take you from point A to point B.
Honestly this is perfectly fine for most of California, and the Seattle or Portland Metro areas. Maybe not Seattle because they get so many days around freezing or below. But here in Portland OR it would be fine. The range hit wouldn't be that bad. The whole metro isn't very wide, and very few people drive it end to end in a day. Most folks have a 7-20 mile commute with one or two hills. That's it. The range would be enough to do the Portland-Seattle run without charging in the summer and maybe one stop in below 45F weather or heavy rain. It's enough to do Portland to the coast comfortably. It's enough to get to Hood River, Mt. Hood, Eugene, or even east of the Cascades to Bend (with one QC stop). So that's enough for most folks. But the pricing is silly. Knock $10K off the price and it becomes very sellable.
Keep up telling always your honest opinion whatever car you are testing. Car buyers might finally start listening... I don't believe car manufacturers would ever listen to any advice coming from "us".. I mean the cars that are coming out are just "seriously???" the decision makers live in a different world than we are..
My prediction is that thing will be on a scrap heap in 10 years as the costs to keep a ho-hum MB on the road will far exceed its value. As you said “disposable.”
The insane popularity of this whole genre of vehicle has always puzzled me. 95% of these don’t do anything really well. Braking, handling, accelerating, pricing and above all omg looks!! I can’t believe people aspire to want one.

Love this video. I have nothing against Mercedes but I love the way you are in this video. This is what made me love this channel many years ago. It's one of the only channels that I know of that'll just tell you straight up if the car is s*** or not
It is refreshing to watch an honest review. Governments shouldn’t rush the internal combustion engine limitations because clearly the car manufacturers aren’t ready. Limited number of EVs on the market and you need to line up for long time to get one in Canada.
Maybe the most brutal car review I've watched on RUclips. The honesty is really appreciated!
@@leaningtower73 Definitely agree. I’ve owned a W126, a late model w140, and a w220, and while the 220 was a really cool car, the build quality and reliability just wasn’t there compared to the other two. Meanwhile, the 126 ruined all other cars for me for a long time
This review is the perfect example of why I am a patreon supporter of this channel. Keep up the good work.
I've never seen Mr. Savagegeese get so worked up over a vehicle review! As always, he's spot on.
Up there with the ford explorer one
God bless you gents. This is one of the most sincere car review I've heard all year. This rush to full EV feels rushed, resulting in a lot of companies putting out ThrashEV just to meet up regulations. It's so sad.
So right, audi is guilty of this too. Most 60k german cars don't have cooled seats or heated steering wheels , cx5 top trim is under 40k and has those features.
They do, you just have to add it as an option.
Love the mental breakdown Mark has when driving it :)
You guys are so hilarious omg. I've been watching yall for a few years now!
I have learned so much about Cars and engineering from you guys.
I am saving up to buy an entry level sports car one day when Market prices come back down to earth.
These electric EQBs are really big here in Germany, but I’m also seeing a ton of buyers remorse. I think the charm of an electric Benz quickly wears off when winter starts to set in. Ironically, I’ve also seen a LOT of Teslas on the road here.
Do they not have a heat pump?
@@JoshCraver9000 It kills the range
I think a lot of people have general EV remorse in Europe since they are crazy expensive to buy, the range in winter and on the motorway is horrible and now that electricity is so expensive they are not cheap to run either.
LOVE the candor. Reviews like this are why I subscribe. NO ONE else review Benzes as if they're anything but God's gift to the motoring public. Kudos!
When you realize that you started your channel to review cars and then end up reviewing appliances.
Videos like this are exactly why this is the best automotive channel on RUclips
Better off getting a $5000 Ebike than this turd
@@WantonSoup192 possibly better off walking or hopping on a skateboard than getting this hunk of planned obsolescence. I'd rather push a broken E55 than take this thing for free. Mercedes has led so many aspects of the automotive industry for sooo long. Sad how far they've fallen.
@@WantonSoup192 If it can go 70 mph, yeah. Well, maybe there's a delimiter hack out there...
Try the BMW i4 e35. It's a hatchback so it's quite usable, better range, and cheaper. You can get it well equipped for 55k. While its still 400v, its a much better package 250 miles of range. If you need more range you can step up to the e40. Way better infotainment and a very good upgraded HK Audio System (Savage Geese Reviewed the Audio for the i4 M50 which is the same system)
Came for the rant you mentioned was coming Mark. I was not disappointed (and it was well deserved)!
First time watcher here after hearing about this review on reddit. Instant sub. Great stuff!
Thanks guys for being so refreshingly honest for a change. Almost all car reviewers on YT would do all kinds of mental gymnastics not say a car is crap so they don't get banned from a major manufacturer. Thank you and we will continue to support you!!!
My favorite new car review of the last month. This is epic, more no BS trash talk like this please! I’m sure there’s a whole lot of garbage still out on the market.
This was a hilarious comment I saw a long time ago but it’s so relevant here. It was, “Mark is obviously a huge car enthusiast but he’s also clearly disappointed the asteroid hasn’t hit us yet”. Great review as always, love you guys.
Said it before and I'll say it again. I don't even like driving and if I could do the stuff I like to do without a car, I wouldn't have one. But I'll always watch your videos because of reviews like this -- love the candor!!!
I am so so SO down for this banter. The rant is amazing.
EVs are like laptops. They are outdated as soon as you get them home
Reminds me of Gil Bates in movie The Onion
@@KubuśpuchatekTVN The new Bates 5000. Throw your 4000 away...It's a piece of shit!
The range is just trash, even without the cold. I’d be interested to see the range on a normal day in January up here in Canada.
Thank you for calling out this car for what it is. This is why I love this channel.
7:20 sums up all new EVs and makes me appreciate my V8 even more
I disagree, my Tesla model 3 performance is around this price and it feels like a little rocket. Handles and grips like it’s on rails too. Well implemented evs are phenomenal
‘Handles like it’s on rails’ lol
@@Eldaino999 yeah, it does. It’s not a model s, model 3 are good on track. Look up how they run on the Nurburgring. The suspension is also extremely comfortable, significantly better than the m340i I had before it imo
@@Mrfix-iz4di Honestly right now the only 2 practical EVs on the market are the Tesla 3 and Tesla model S, if it can't get 300-400 mileage and charge at least at 200kW then it's garbage.
@@ShockinglyBleh I agree
Crazy how manufacturers still betting on a concept unattainable for the average earth citizen. I love the honesty Mark and Jack throw at bullshit gimmicks
Love the Kirkland Signature sweater! They keep it real! 😂
That weak range is such a dealbreaker
Bingo bango bongo on the final thoughts segment. Best auto-themed channel on YT. Always appreciate the honesty, insight, and quality of your content!

I love that Mark was eating an (ICE) cream cone while driving an EV. Well played sir. It’s these Easter eggs that make you guys the best reviewers on RUclips bar none.
I can only dream of being as cool in my late 60s as Mark
How f-word entitled people in Mercedes must feel themselves to sale this for that price...
F🅰️S©️¡$T?
F-word? Are you 10? Either use another word, or just write fuck lol
This is every car brand that sells anything over 30k.
@@singular9 I would not put all eggs to one basket. It's just when you sit in it and do not understand where the money gone. Like, for example, I can understand why Porsche costs that much and I can understand why S-class costs that much.
I put your statement through Google translate. It said, "this vehicle at it's current price, isn't a good value". Did they get it correct?
Maybe the best review of the year on the whole RUclips planet. Awesome guys, honesty at it's peak!
That is a very good point, the largest amount of emissions and pollution are created when making new vehicles, we should not be thinking about making disposable vehicles like smartphones! We should be thinking about how to make long lasting vehicles.
😂😂😂 I'm dying.
Love the honesty. This is just a "me too" car.
Mercs business model nowadays is if there a niche, or some profit to be had they'll get involved no matter how shitty or subpar the product.
Absolutely loved this! This is how you break down a vehicle and give people what they really want!
2500% integrity in this review ❤️
Really appreciate the unadulterated & unfiltered , & non-pseudepigraphal review. Keep doing the awesome work you guys are doing.
And this is why I LOVE this channel! Honesty! ❤️
Jesus Mark, tell us what you really think. LOL. Love it.
Ooof this one really put the savage in savagegeese
Thanks for keeping it real Mark
even the Mercedes rep they work with gotta appreciate this although the rep is probably not allowed to admit enjoying this video.
Mercedes brand prestige is dropping fast. Stuck between old and new, with no identity.
This isn't the first video I've seen were they talk about the milage dropping in half in cold weather.
I guess California suits didn't think of that for half the country and Canada for the he'll of it
Love that brutal honesty.
Love the video. I think manufacturers need time to iterate and see what works and what doesn’t in the EV market. Manufacturers know this and governments know this. There will be some poor products that emerge during the transition and I’m glad you touched on that aspect.
Some of the funniest moments are in the videos that get relatively low views. It’s like the best kept secret of savagegeese lol.
"This thing is a piece of ****" -- liked and subscribed! 🤣
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is really doing far better in creating all new EVs and in adapting existing platforms to electric at both ends of the market. When it comes to styling new EVs, Mercedes is at the tail end of the pack.
Great review.. stupid money for a half assed car that dont work when its cold.
Still has a trans tunnel ? Wow how crappy
This is one for the history books of automotive video journalism!
The best review. All these types of vehicles feel exactly the same.
Not just brutally honest.....rather savage in fact. #Pile
I enjoy watching the reviews on crappy cars as much as the good ones, way to keep it real guys! I don't know why you guys don't have at least a million subscribers by now.
My fav SG review so far!!
This is honestly the best car review channel lol and it's not even close
I agree and really like where the car industry is going. Ambient lighting , exterior lighting, screens, piano gloss plastics, carbon bits that are added for weight saving , cost cutting on suspension, reliability testing, fixing known software bugs afterwards etc.. Just like any other business : focus on the most uninformed / dumb customers and appeal to the inner child that likes blinky lights.
This made me laugh a lot. Thanks for being truthful and giving your honest assessment.
After this review, i am still ordering it as a company lease (so, not my own money). From all the cars i can choose from, it was the most comfortable.

"what do you think?"
"I don't give a f*ck. This thing is a piece of sh*t."
lol 🤣
Honesty is everything. Thanks!
Mark definitely honors the channel name 😂
Mark's apathetic expression and manner expresses perfectly the proper response to the marketing wank of the "premium" car manufacturers.
Great content as usual, appreciate the effort you guys put into these reviews.
Great job guys. I really enjoy watching your videos and your honesty
You guys are seriously the best.
Never change, Mark
The insane popularity of this whole genre of vehicle has always puzzled me. 95% of these don’t do anything really well.
