Scenic slope, music, very special glider, excellent piloting skills and video footage = 4':32" of pure pleasure ... Thanks John and happy Christmas to you and your loved ones 🎄
What a gorgeous, graceful glider! It is so enjoyable and relaxing to watch you fly your gliders over this seaside bluff. They seem like living things, especially when they approach you for a hand capture - and "capture" seems like too strong a word for how they appear to float willingly into your hand.
As usual I came late to the party and anything I could say has been said about this beauty. I would call it Gentle Lady, but I believe that name has been taken. A great video of a wonderful plane.
Another exemplary video, Sir. Your introductory commentary this time is particularly valuable. Building the fuselage in halves on a flat surface is a brilliant technique and excellent construction tip for the lesser gifted builders and mere mortals such as myself. Your remarks on the flight characteristics of the model and flying conditions at the time are equally invaluable. As usual the filming and flying were premium quality, no surprise there. I think I'll mention again how much your shared preliminary observations add to the overall video, as well as the close up views of the gorgeous glider. To say that your productions are inspirational is an understatement of epic proportion. Eternal respect and gratitude. Merry Christmas!
Only John could concieve taking a lighter than air dirigible and putting wings on it to make it fly closer to the ground! Lolol just kidding John! I love it, I like the building method as I'm very familiar with that as a kid with stick and tissue kits. Love the style, color, music and your signature close in pirouettes! Did I miss the giant air beast looping or are you reserving that move for a slightly heavier wind day? Thanks for sharing John, your videos really starting day right!
2:48 - You're standing ON the ROCK PILE of DEATH you maniac ! Pure hybris, courting disaster like that (tsk, tsk...) But seriously : Thank you and your brilliant camera-wife for all the great videos you've posted for us during the year that's been. Looking forward to more in the next one - it is truly a joy to watch them :-) All the best and a happy new year to you from a Norwegian woodworker
Just love this glider John, thanks for sharing the details with us and what a lovely and gentle flyer she is, have a safe Christmas and New year with your good lady and family or course and best wishes from Alan in South Yorkshire 👍👍🤗🤗👍👍
Fantastic John! Lovely video of a great glider. Very satisfying and restful to watch. I may have missed it but what is the accompanying music called please?
I don’t tend to get overly worried about choosing the perfect airfoil. Even on a gentle day, my local slope produces lots of lift. I think I just used a variation on a ClarkY with a very slight bit of undercamber.
@@SlopeRCGliders sounds reasonable! I guess that wingload and streamlined fuselage influence flight characteristics more than minor variations of the airfoil.
It was actually a few months ago. I always have a few videos lined up waiting to be uploaded. It’s good to try and space them out and try and mix them up a bit.
Hi, great video once again. What a beautiful glider. I have resently started to build. Do you have, or are you planning to do any build videos. We could all learn such a lot from you. Seasons greetings.
I love your stunning models and videos. And I envy your building ability but mostly I envy your seaside cliff. Have you ever lost a model in the ocean??
Hi John great flying can I pick up brains I am having trouble with loss of signal on couple of my planes & they start behaving erratically ending in a crash I use the same recivers inall planes . My radian is fine no problems & that has the same type of reciver as rest I have spectrum transmitter & reciver cheers
Hi there, make sure that your receiver ariels are nice and straight and lined up. There is a range-check function on Spektrum transmitters. It will be interesting to see if you are getting the same range on all your receivers. I recently threw away a receiver because the plane kept glitching in the air. When I did a range-check on the ground it was only getting about 1/4 of the range it should even with fully charged batteries etc.
Sorry to ask a newbie question, but how do you move the control surfaces to get the glider to slew to one side. I know there is a proper name for this manuever and that it is frequently used in gliders. I am trying to learn to fly in a flight sim and can't quite work out what to do. Love your videos, also the build tips in this one.
Hi there. This glider is probably slightly different to the ones on your flight sim, as it’s only rudder and elevator control. I can get it crabbing along the slope using the rudder, as the wind is coming up the slope. I’m not sure if that’s what you mean..
Yes, it's that crabbing movement I'm after. It's when you are moving parallel to the edge of the slope then turn the plane quickly toward the sea (downslope) but instead of heading down it continues to slew sideways for a second or two in the same direction it was previously heading. Almost like throwing a sportscar into a 4 wheel drift around a corner. I first heard of this "side slip" when reading about an airliner that, after running out of fuel, was taken over by a glider pilot who was able to side slip the plane to line it up with a runway in an abandoned airbase in Gimli, Manitoba. Amazingly, he landed it safely!
Unfortunately this was just a one-build which I mostly made up as I went along, so I didn’t draw up any proper plans. The only plane I drew up proper plans for was my Ocean Breeze which a friend of mine had to help digitise onto a computer.
John, do you post the files for such beauties anywhere? The Torpedo and modified 1939 78" Carl Goldberg are exquisite. I've been searching for nice designs but cant make up my mind, going back to these two designs all the time :-)
Unfortunately I’m no good at drawing up proper plans. I just tend to draw a very basic outline and then make up all the detail as I actually build it. Something like the Torpedo design is easier to build than it looks, as I just drew out a basic teardrop shape. From there I could work out the size of each circle for the fuselage formers. I then built the top half first, flat on a building board, before removing it and building up the bottom.
Do you think how high the distance between the fuselage and the wing are the best for stability? Or was it still TLAR thats look about right principle? Thank you, appreciated

Thank you! And a happy Christmas to you.
Really like the explanation / intro at the start. Super model. Thank you.
Nicely done Old Chap! Thank you for including a minute of design notes in this one.
It is so relaxing watching you fly those majestic birds.
This design is maybe my favorite.
Words such as intriguing and graceful come to mind as the craft floats through the blue sky.
Thank you!
Absolutely John.
Please don't tire of creating or sharing your videos.
We never tire of enjoying the results.
Good day to you Wayne
I love your videos. The views are stunning, the gliders are elegant and your flying masterful. Thanks.
Thank you!

A slender excellent flyer.Seems a good idea to lift the wing up in a craddlle, eliminating interaction drag.
Super job as usual!Many thanks!
Thank you!

Love the old Vintage construction methods...This one could definitely Flat Field thermal with such low wing loading..

A new take upon 10,000 rivets flying in close formation?
A wing and fuselage apparently flying 'in close formation '!
lovely Jubley can't get enough of the glider well done
Thank you. It’s one of my favourites, but it will need a re-cover soon as it’s starting to look a bit tatty.
Love that stringered fuselage

Absolutamente precioso!!!!!
Excellent model and a great video, thanks for sharing.
Golly, must one keep a smile the entire flight?? haha (:
Who needs chemical antidepressants when you can watch this........

Always a wonderful beautiful craft thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Beautiful design, fly's well Thanks John
Love this shape by the way!🥰
Beautiful airplane! I can't help but think a $50 keychain camera would afford some spectacular footage. Thanks for posting!
I do have several videos with a GoPro mounted onboard. If you click on the Playlist tab there is one named ‘onboard footage ‘
Fantastic John! Lovely video of a great glider. Very satisfying and restful to watch. I may have missed it but what is the accompanying music called please?
Thank you. I’ll have to look up what the music is. I can’t remember off the top of my head.

Most interesting flyer. Thanks
Amazing! Was this in december? Looks quite
pleasantly warm in the video

Thank you. I do keep meaning to do some build videos, as people often ask. The hardest bit would be knowing what level to pitch them at?
@@SlopeRCGliders I think any methods, knowledge and skill sharing would be of great benefit to anyone at any level.
That was fun John 👍
Once again the music is spot on! How long time do you spend on finding the right piece of music?
Finding an appropriate bit of music is the hardest bit of making the video.
mmmmmmm......
The sea breeze just arrived.
Fantastic oldtimer model (✷‿✷) 👉 💙👈

great plane and flying !

Hey. John. Awesome. Torpedo. Glider. !! And. Just. 3. Channels ? Wooo. Hoo
Thank you! It’s just rudder and elevator.
Very impressive, beautiful design John! Didn't we see this airplane in another of your videos?
Yes, I think there are a few previous videos of it flying.
nice man, and how do you decide on the proportion of the model, like wing span and wing area length of fuselage , etc???
I just work on the ‘That looks about right’ design principle.
If it looks good it flies good.
looks great Jon. happy new years 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
Thank you. And Happy New Years to you.

Great, it can sail with a minimum of uplift for hours!

Beautiful
Looks as though it's as heavy as a styrofoam cup. Have you weighed it and worked out the wing loading?
It’s fairly heavy at 2.3 kg. I haven’t worked out the wing loading but it’s a big wing.
I would be very interested to know what camera was used for the filming of your exquisite models.
My wife uses a Sony Handycam. She likes it because it has a viewfinder on the rear.

@Eyal Radomsky the wing is from a Sunspot. Plans are on Outerzone

It’s was still just TLAR
