    China released this as Open Source, that means anyone can copy and look through the source code, edit it and recompile into new software. This is a free gift to the world (including to the Americans). There is zero risk of anything because everything is shown and transparent and available to anyone to use. True democracy at work.

      Though to be fair, DeepSeek was developed based on other open-source AI software provided by American-based Meta, which they basically used to 'train' to do similar tasks, but using much more compact instructions and lower power chips. Similar to the way China has replicated the tech that we have previously provided for building aerospace and other Hi-Tech products, but as with everything China produces, much cheaper.
      But not surprising, when queried DeepSeek will fail to answer any questions re: Xi Jinping or Tiannamen Square!

      just because its open source would why would we trust it coming from China though.. where have always been suspicious of hacking, spying without any evidence (except perhaps from TikTok) and EV's
      Why would making DeepSeek open source be an exception ? It's almost like when China demonstrates something U,S and the West is proud of, all of a sudden all spying bets are off the table ?
      Seriously ?? Or is the rest of the world loosing our grip because we can't find any evidence ?

      Even with the right technique and assets some investors would still make more than others. As an investor, you should've known that by now that nothing beats experience and that's final. Personally I had to reach out to a stock expert for guidance which is how I was able to grow my account close to $35k, withdraw my profit right before the correction and now I'm buying again.

      I wanted say something maybe people can reflect on. When you guys see mr wolff on videos such as this what do you see or feel? Let me give you my answer. I feel sad, dissapointed, but happy and thankful. I know some of you are probably laughing or even confused. Why do I feel this way? it was not too long ago when you wouldn't dare to criticize someone such as mr wolff, on the perspective of elder (sorry mr wolff😉I promise you I don't mean this in any negative way and is only to make a point), credential, and knowledge. Of course we still had many ignorant people, but those who had no respect for people such as mr wolff was usually an outcast. Such as trump also would never have existed, and if so never in the open. I remember warnings, talking points, public meetings on the danger of television to childrens and teenagers due to a thing called cable tv. If you had HBO you was it. Peoplewas buying VHS to copy as much cable TV they could from people who were lucky to enjoy it. Only channel I remember clear enough to enjoy somewhat was our local PBS. It was usually the puppet show.😆ms piggy, frog, big bertha, etc..People actually cared or at least made it public and available. Imagine if today someone make a big deal warning on the news or movies. It wou;d be looked as laughing stock.The part that made me share this was because I realized this was only in the 90's. I was in middle school. We had to be in the home room in time to pledge our alliance. very important. You needed to respect your teachers, there were no islamaphobia, antisemitism, xenophobia, none of it. Even blacks and whites were getting along minding their own business. We had the biggest snowfall I think in 93-94. HUGE HUGE! Historic. There were serious talks about the consequences of media, music, movies, and just too much tv. The consequences they warned us for were, isolation, division, mental health, misperception of society, violence, quick temper, bad eye vision, out of touch from reality. Than right about the very 1st fear mongering I experienced was the thing we called Y2K. The end of something big coming. Internet was about to be revolutionized and same as this AI, it was going to be for humanity, to connect with all human kind, to end racism, hatred, wars. revolution. Here we are today. It almost feel like Y2K. We didn't listen to warnings from people like mr wolff. We don't even pretend. Why does someone such as mr wolff has to take his precious time out to intervene and warn when he could just be enjoying life. I can't do nothing but appreciate mr wolff because I remember, and for that I know where he is coming from. Only we can change for us. it takes just you to talk to 1 person and that is it. it only takes 1 for 1. easy and free to take control of our lives.

    As an electrical engineer, who does opensource, if the impact of DeepSeek is what it seems, then I must express my hats off to that little startup in China. I went to a very international school - University of Southern California. Then to the Univ of Technology, Sydney. Originally from Connecticut, I met a lot of very talented engineers from many cultures - China, Iran, Lebanon, Southern California, Japan etc. From these experiences, I sensed that these people, valued hard work, expertise, and technical know how. And they valued their peers too. I respect them. Somehow, in most of the US, I see less appreciation for this. Its too bad. Poor fools they are too as it is only a dream fed to them in order to get them to work harder for the rich.
      Here is another irony - the Capitalist west (ie the US) complains that China has "overproductivity" in EVs. solar panels, etc and is thus, "stealing" the jobs from the West. YET, we keep hearing in our Western economies that our workers are not being productive enough. One would think that since capitalism loves overproduction. they should be congratulating the Chinese for being overproductive and finding out how they did it. However, they condemn the Chinese instead for achieving what they themselves want their own workers to achieve.

    Thanks for this series, I'm enjoying listening. I'm an executive coach in the semiconductor industry and this is my understanding. The disruptive innovation is that the DeepSeek AI model is able to function using lower quality chips which are less expensive. Almost all of the world's chips are made in Taiwan and South Korea by two companies - TSMC and Samsung. The equipment to build tiny chips is extremely expensive and complex. NVIDIA is a chip designer not a chip manufacturer. It was designing chips for the gaming industry and happened to be well positioned to start designing chips for AI use. The false assumption was that AI required these fancier more expensive chips which only NVIDIA could design. DeepSeek has proven that it wasn't necessary to invest in the fancy chips because they only had access to the simpler older chips since the US did not give China access to high end chips.

    • @kayhawkins5925
      @kayhawkins5925 5 дней назад +8

      Excuse my ignorance but since Taiwan is Chinese territory and they produce the chips and actually use China's resources for their chips why can't China get these more advanced chips. I realize the US has placed sanctions on chips and semiconductors to China but not understanding why China can be denied chips from their own territory

    A slight correction. It's not about the chips. It's about the AI models they produced. Deepseek still used US Nvidia chips (although a dumbed-down version due to US export control) to train its models. However, they figured out some really smart ways to greatly improve their models' training and reasoning efficiency, greatly reducing costs. And they also open sourced their code so that everyone can use and modify it, and learn from it. This basically destroyed American tech oligarchs' AI monoply. Therefore you see these American tech giants doubting this model's true cost and making groundless accusations of Deepseek stealing training data. It's just pathetic.

    Thank you, Professor Wolf, for speaking objectively about CHN. I have been wishing for you to talk more about the socialist model in CHN, and I’m so happy to see it today. If you haven’t had the chance, I hope you will have the opportunity to visit CHN. It is a harmonious society.

      @ The common people in CHN have the essentials (a home, food, water) that you name, but also have affordable healthcare, affordable education, and affordable, advanced, & efficient transportation (high speed rail). Comparably the biggest economy in North America does not have the same or they are not affordable to the common people.

    Science and Civilisation in China (1954-present) is an ongoing series of books about the history of science and technology in China published by Cambridge University Press. It was initiated and edited by British historian Joseph Needham (1900-1995). China has several thousand years of tech experience while the West only has several hundred years since the end of the Dark Age.
