Had great success with my 5k. did not have these problems this gentleman had after over a yr of use. There is a slight edge distortion but most people in the real world don't cut their eyes to the far edges to view most things they turn their heads and look at what they want to look at..
@Donny Granger ye I would definately get both . Best upgrade you can do in 2020 . Dont waste the money on a new Smartphone 😃 althouh 120hz oled samsung s20 ultra would be nice to have 😃but I rather get the pimax. I hope I will be able to sell my old pimax xr for 499$ ^^ I already got a 2080 ti but its not powerful enough to run for example zero caliber at 82hz maxed out . I shouldnt have upgraded from my old 1080 ti to a 2080 ti . It wasnt worth it xD
@@aras4629 go for the Index if you wanna play games active with full Body movement. Get the 8k x if you wanna use simulations games and use Desktop vr and watch movies. Get the xtal if you want to have the best picture out of all hmds.
Wow, it's a shame you had such a bad experience. I don't have a 5K plus, but do have the 8K, and I absolutely love it. The only problem I share with you is the uncomfortable head strap. I fly a few hours nearly ever night in War Thunder. SDE is minimal and the FOV rocks. I can 'check six' now. I also play Onward and Contractors. I pre ordered the 8KX, can't wait for it to arrive.
Honestly it was just painful and difficult to use. Such a shame cos I wanted to love it. All that said, Pimax have actually reached out to me for a discussion which I am very impressed by. There may be a follow up video in the works.
EDIT: Pimax sent me new firmware it fixed the setup issues, headset works fine. Quick Service. I robbed the face sponge from my CV1 and stuck it over the existing Pimax foam, works well. I wish I had read your review a month ago. I received my 5k plus yesterday, I have the same connection issues with the DP plug not being recognised, (a day later and still nothing), I'm furious at this product. I've a average size western nose, the headset doesn't fit on my face properly at all, IF, bloody IF I get it working I'm going to have to modify the face foam extensively to suit my face I don't recommend this product either.
When I heard that it was the same amount of pixels rendered as the pimax, but the pitool just ran its tricks on the image, it immediately rang alarm bells to me. Then I thought” with some super sampling, right distortion profile, maybe it’s possible”. It’s.. just too hard the way they choose to do it. Perhaps 8kx will work. I just think the index is the way to go, and this is just a very expensive tinkering object for enthusiasts with deep pockets
Ouch ha ha what a review ! I was watching a lot of CES videos about this headset with interest, well not anymore lol... Thanks for the info, and well structured video ;)
Most welcome bud, glad it was useful. It’s a real shame as I really wanted to love this headset but it’s just too temperamental and difficult to setup. Definitely worth keeping an eye on Pimax for the future though.
Its actually very easy to setup , I really dont get what he is saying 🤷♂️ . Give me a sec I will buy beatsaber to verify that ( probably false) information.
90HZ is all I need. Just for 90HZ is a Nivda GTX 1660 ok? Mine computer is rated for 144HZ. Also what kind of controls can I use on them? Can I use my Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 controllers? And I read somewhere you can use oculus website and use there library to play games from it. Is that true?
I am trying to find a really comfortable cloth face cushion for the rift s. The stock face cushions have started to peel off and I really need to get a new one. Can you include a link to a relatively inexpensive and comfortable replacement?
Was gonna pick this up I was on the edge but no way. Valve index hmd is $500 and this $800. Only reason I considered this was because index was out of stock but index will probably come back in stock before this arrives
@@x32i77 did you get the index? after watching this video i took the Pimax 5K+ 144hz out of my cart. Now I have to try to choose a different VR headset. I mostly just want VR for sim racing.
@@VirtualRealityPilot the valve index is not available since december now. And valve comunication with its costumers is just a trash. So i m pretty sure plenty of people that want badly a headset ordered or are going to order the new pimax. I Feel the same way with everything you said accept the comfort for me is fine. I have the Pimax 5k XR BE. Cant Even return or sell it and i got it for 900 CAD.
I was invited to be in their kick starter video while when they were in California, unfortunately I could not make it. Though now I am pretty happy I didn't, I went back and fourth with them for a year on when they had Review units available and once they did they considered my channel too small and in the email they considered me a "Risk" they didn't want to take. They are a very money hungry company that pushes out headsets that are below consumer quality for an outrageous amount of money for an incomplete package. Bottom line is that that don't keep their word and they have terrible customer service as well, I just hope other people don't fall for the "Wide view" gimmick they poorly implemented.
I've been reviewing VR headsets for a couple of weeks, waiting for stim stim to come in. I must say, I've never reviewed a product with so many complaint's and con's as the Pimax headset. I don't know what they're smoking over there at Pimax but they're product sounds like a real piece of shit/headache.
Respectfully you just don't know how to use it lol, Heck i barely no how to use it. Imho this is misunderstood review that needed more time. Once you understand how to use it you can dial in options you just don't get with other hmd's ..it's really nice. To be fair you're probably just more of a plug-and-play kind of guy it sounds and that's okay. The Index is a great option but I don't like the Glare as many others don't and the FOV is small. There is no perfect HMD at the moment and Pinax is not for everyone I agree. Cheers.
I have never heard of a Pinax headset. Pimax with a big FOV what is the point in buying a headset where the corners are blurry ! Every person who use's this headset has mentioned the edges appear blurry.. It's like buying this amazing car you always wanted and looking through the front window thinking oh that looks nice driving around here, only to notice the door windows looks blurry as fuck so what's the point in buying it..
Try a properly dialed in 5k+ if you get a chance. Also people are not using the 170fov they use the 150fov 90hz mode and or a 120hz mode.150 fov is huge and does not suffer from fishbowl/distortion the 170fov (200dg diagonal) suffers from. It's not a headset for people who don't want or have time to optimize/tweak. Once you optimize a game you can save it per app...it's not that difficult honestly. You can also play Oculus exclusives natively. I received my 5k+ with DAS for an incredible deal locally and no tax...great for sims and knuckle controllers are very nice.I have had my share of frustration at times and it is a risk being a smaller company that needs work.

Its better you choose another hobby than VR gaming. My Pimax is wonderful and it's the best HMD on the market! I love it! The FOV is unique!
I love my pimax xr 😍
@Donny Granger just wait for the 8k x ;)

this problem seems to be solved on the 8kx ( i ordered it ) cos they crafted smaler panels.

I do think their vision is great one, truly immersive wide FOV VR gaming, it’s just not there yet.
I LOVE MINE XR , ITS EPIC IN HELLSPLIT ARENA and A TECH CYBERNATIC 😱😍 rtx 2080 ti and pimax xr is an awesome experience
I'm using 5k+ only to iRacing but in other games 5k+ for me it's a nightmare...
hope they really improve their game with the coming Pimax 8kx
Me too, would be awesome if they pull their vision off
Do you have a video about your PC? Looks sick.
Thank you for this video. I'm waiting for your recommendation about the best VR Headset 2020 from your experience and knowledge. :)
Glad you enjoyed the vid, I'm likely to do that sort of video in the next few weeks :-)
btw 3 years later still has that display issue
also the headset does NOT come with a head strap now. Very VERY disappointing
Great job love all of your videos 👍🏻
