Its the same here in Scotland, but the blade size is limited to 3". Strangely enough, people still get stabbed every week with knives bigger than 3". The perpetrators must be carrying them illegally!
You live in Scotland? Do you have any videos on RUclips talking about Scotland or some locations near your home? Very intrested in traveling to your beautiful country.
Living in NYC since 1979. Honestly, things have gotten a bit better since 2013. But not by a huge amount. Want to carry a knife? Get a medium sized Swiss Army knife without a locking main blade. Carry it concealed. Or, carry a multi-tool in which the blades cannot be accessed from the outside of the handles. Sadly, those are your only legal options.
Great video and good information. I have had many knives confiscated and one knife that I had to appear and pay a fine for carrying. As you stated all it took was for the undercover officer to see the pocket clip of the knife and he detained me from that point on. As you stated again, they will try to force the knife to open with one hand, by any means necessary to see if they can arrest you. While doing this they inquire to central if you have any wants or warrants. I came up clean and this cop just gave me a ticket and day to appear in court. The fine was $25.00. FYI, had I not showed up it would have turned into a warrant for my arrest. I love NYC and I hate it as well. Semper Fi sir.
true that. some citizens have used m-16's, .50 & .60 cals, grenade launchers, but cant walk down Main St without some overzealous leo harassing them about a piece of sharpened metal. smh. Semper Fi, Devil Dog.
ive spent the night in jail in nyc. i was coming home from work (im a civil servant) and my knife was in my tool bag in my back seat. didnt give consent to search my car but he said i was in a high drug area.( i was parked in front of my building) almost lost my job because of this.
Good news, “gravity” knives in NYC is now legal. Cops are now not allowed to wrist flick knives to terrorize law abiding citizens. Also, regarding locking knives, it is considered a public menace meaning you may not have it out in the open. It is legal as long as it is completely concealed. So, it is legal to carry a locking knife as long as it is less than 4” and there is no criminal intent. Still, no balisongs, double edge, and automatic/assisted folding knives though.
Here in Sweden the law says its illegal to carry a knife in public places unless its for work. On the other hand the same law says that its ok to carry a pocketknife for normal use....
It sounds to me like it is similar to the UK law: Non-locking pocket knives 3" and under are legal and an exception to the "No knives unless you have a good cause" general law.
The County of Los Angeles has a parallel rule, which makes it illegal to openly carry “any knife having a blade of three inches or more in length; any spring-blade, switch-blade or snap-blade knife; any knife any blade of which is automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical device; any ice pick or similar sharp stabbing tool; any straight-edge razor or any razor blade fitted to a handle.” See LA County Ordinances § 13.62.010-020. So basically, it’s illegal in Los Angeles County to openly carry any knife with a blade of 3″ or longer, sheathed on your hip or not. The same sportsman and religious exemptions apply at the county level. See LA County Ordinances § 13.62.030.
The best knife to carry in NYC is ANY knife you carry in any other place than NYC. IF your knife--and your freedom--is important to you, the best thing to do is to STAY AWAY from the People's Republic of NYC. There are NYPD cops who literally buy random knives and practice for hours to learn how to "flick open" them. I once knew an NYPD officer who could "flick open" a vintage Boy Scout knife, and he bragged that he could do it with 90% of the knives he picked up, within half a dozen tries...
I think someone in NY would be happier just carrying one of the leatherman multitools. Might get more capabilities as long its a nonlocking version. Though I believe most of the nice ones do lock.
Los Angeles Code § 55.01 also makes it illegal to carry any weapon at all concealed on one’s person. Basically, in Los Angeles, it’s illegal to carry a blade over 3″ whether that’s openly or concealed
I have been reading NY penal code section 265 criminal possession of a weapon for the past few hours trying to find a edc knife and can't find anything that says you can't have a lockback like a buck 112 ecolite which I would much rather edc for self defense "a knife I use for work" then a swiss army. Also I can't find anywhere that says you can't carry a fixed blade that is under 4 inches although I noticed that they can charge you for any knife "dangerous knife" which can be your SAK.
Victorinox Swiss Army, does not make a Wood Carving knife that has two carving blades, a saw, and a large roughing blade. Blades that have 58 or better Rockwell hardness or 440 or better stainless steel. Just three slots (not sure what they are called) handles. that are rounded for comfort, with locking blades. Folded no more than 3 1/2 inches long. If all the carvers out there will unite and keep bugging Vicky about it, I am sure they will listen.
That's not the definition of a gravity knife. A gravity knife is where the blade will fall free on its own due to gravity, not flicking. Original gravity knives were issued during WWII to German paratroopers and the blade slides out of the handle by simple force of gravity when a lever is pressed. Arresting someone for having a knife where an officer can simply figure out any way to flick open the blade is an outrageous misuse of law and violation of civil rights.
Its not a frame lock. Boker makes two models, oen that is a fram lock, one that isnt, they are both exaclty the same but tihs one is a "UK legal" model, in which the frame is not bent to lock. You can look it up as Boker Trace 42 UK legal and find the model in Heinnie
To avoid any issues in NYC I carry a 12"-14" Monkeyfist keychain. (mikesmonkeyfists. com) It has a 1" Steel ball wrapped in paracord at the end good enough to crack eye sockets, a skull, hands, jaws etc. Very punishing and attaches to your keys. Very safe to carry.
I live in NYC, i think the laws are outrageous, the law states that knives that can be opened with centrifugal force are considered gravity knives, but gravity and centrifugal force are 2 completely different laws of physics... They did hit a grey area to cover as many knives as possible to outlaw. the funny thing is, the law states that the knife can not be opened by gravity and/or centrifugal force and lock, so by this logic, if u take the latch off a bali, it should be legal, doubt it tho
I am going to make this simple and short..... Locking blade, folding knives are NOT Illegal in New York City. I am sure many have posted that, so please excuse the repartition.
Florida law states "a common pocket knife"? I have heard if you have a cwp you can carry anything... Wrong knife laws are different from city to city and county to county. Open carry is also a grey area as well so i carry my concealed firearm as these are preempted in fl
not trying to start anything but the frame of that knife had a frame cut to lock it...and when you closed it at 6:34 you push the lock out of the way to close it... correct me if i am wrong but that was a frame lock knife
Where I live (montreal) any type of knife is illegal on the island. Even swiss army knifes, even if the blade was 1 inch.. Unless you're using at your work place. I still carry an Ontario RAT 1 and a Victorinox Swiss army, but i mean, im not suppose to
+The Gypsay where i live, all knives are legal including switchblades and balisong knives. i hope you can overturn your unjust knife laws and live without overly-restrictive laws.
Yea I always carry my knife that I believe to be legal all over New York, but specifically I had family running in the marathon, went to meet her at the finish line with fellow family members and they had a security check with metal detectors and the officer found my knife, with a clip, 4 inch blade, assisted opening with a lock mech and also a beautifull 9/11 memorial knife from united cutlery, and he found it in my jacket pocket, asked why I had it and I told him, I am a hunter, also a certified health care provider and I keep it with me incase I see an accident and have to use the glass breaker and seat belt cutter to save someone or if Im in the woods or anything like that and he said, "I could tell you are a hunter, Im not even worried about those." and I went on my way.

So then, don't even talk to cops or answer any questions in New York, because the cops spend their time and energy looking for excuses to arrest people, just because, It's New York!!

Lock and open one handed.

They can lock, but they can not be opened with inertia. The cops will do whatever it takes to get that knife to flick open, if they loosen all the screws, saturate it with oil and put a long pair of pliers on the blade and can flick it open they will charge you. Only safe locking knife is one that is specifically designed to require 2 hands to open, and that design cannot rely on friction since they will do whatever it takes to defeat that.

Here in Kansas I can legally carry concealed or not concealed any bladed weapon that is legal to own. which is pretty much everything except for ballistic knives and throwing stars. if I wanted to I could walk down the street with a cane sword

You can only carry a folding knife with a blade under 3" which does not lock. I have a collection of knives, all of them legal to own, but most of them not legal to carry outside.
Even there, the question of legality also hangs on use. In the UK you can carry a fixed or locking blade knife over 3" if - and only if - you have a legitimate reason for doing so at that time. The problem is the legitimate reason is traveling to or from the place where you will be using that blade for work or leisure, and not 'because I might need it' or even 'because I need it for work, but I'm at lunch'. This creates a self-perpetuating myth about knife crime in the inner city. A policeman who sees a decorator with a Stanley/X-Acto knife in a lunch line is duty bound to confiscate the knife (and arrest the individual if they refuse to give up the knife)... and the confiscation goes into knife crime statistics. This is somewhat understandable (a guy with a Stanley knife in decorator's overalls is probably using it to cut wallpaper, but a guy with a Stanley knife and a West Ham scarf hanging round The Den is probably using it to cut Millwall supporters, and the law is blind to the distinction), but gives rise to oversensitivity in the public (who see knife crime statistics and think every confiscation is the result of a murderous knife fight).
Look it up, I belive you find it in the Home Office but just look up UK knife laws and it should should up in google fast enough. Trust, me a locking knife is illegal to carry without "good reason". These days, that "good reason" better be damn good because they have a strong anti knife agenda.
Our forefathers are turning over in their graves.
Its the same here in Scotland, but the blade size is limited to 3". Strangely enough, people still get stabbed every week with knives bigger than 3". The perpetrators must be carrying them illegally!
Lachlan Hamilton almost all knife crime is performed with kitchen knives. So the laws are not really solving issues.

You should do another video like this the laws in NY changed a bit last year.
if you push in the back lock on a knife and use a tiny flick of your wrist most knives open, that can be called a gravity knife
I think someone in NY would be happier just carrying one of the leatherman multitools. Might get more capabilities as long its a nonlocking version. Though I believe most of the nice ones do lock.

so basically there going to make knives illegal, such a scam. I'm sick gov regulations. what about a knive sheaths ?
Word of warning to new yorkers though, if you run into problems with the cops and have a multi tool you'll get charged with burglary tools.

Dany NBA that is just terrible! if that is true, the laws there are completely insane and immoral.
123a Well it's a bummer, but not sure if it's insane. You could also say it's insane to be allowed to walk around with an RPG in texas
i would agree, open carrying an RPG would be rather insane.

NYC is slip joint only. If they lock open they are considered "combat" knives.
"Centrifugal force" not inertia. technically the law is written in a way which physics happliy is able to provide a loophole. the knife can be locking in NYC, but it has to have good closed position retention.
Well DONE!!!!!!

Question, sir!
I got the Chinese Schirogorov F3 flipper knife, and i'm going to NYC for a week. So i wonder is flipper legal in the NYC or not? Regardless about locking mechanism.
So basically in house use not outside so will i still get arrested?
Telling someone how wrong he is without even bothering to check first, that's rude.
A very good point
what kind of cold steel is that???
So can we assume a fixed blade of any kind is also illegal ?
If the cops deem it as a dangerous weapon. You are at the whim of the cops in NYC.
can i carry in nyc the victorinox my first?
i dont think these are illagle in way upstate ny
just use a fixed blade
I would just move. ps I do live in ny not nyc and them laws are just four the city
lol and I tought that Brazil laws were stupid. At least we can carry knives here, if you are lucky you won't lose your knife to the police officer.
What if i Have a lock but Only use in my house and not taking it out
You should be fine. I don't know what the law is concerning automatics there, but here in the UK you can own any knife except a gravity knife, a butterfly knife, a switchblade, a push-dagger, a belt buckle knife or a disguised knife (like a pen with a hidden knife inside it for example).
Do you have a source for the law? What I have read mentions nothing about a lock being illegal.
Look it up, I belive you find it in the Home Office but just look up UK knife laws and it should should up in google fast enough.
Trust, me a locking knife is illegal to carry without "good reason". These days, that "good reason" better be damn good because they have a strong anti knife agenda.
TheModernSurvivalist OK. I'll look it up. I know in the UK a locking blade is illegal. I was referring to NYC which I thought this video was about.
now i carry a fixed blade
Got arrested for carrying a staleto switchblade in nyc but I fought the case and the charges where dropped.
How can any knife law be legal? Do i not have the right to bear arms and protect myself?
A right to do so? Depends where you live.
@@TheModernSurvivalist it is a right, natural law of nature.
New York being rediculous is nothing new here.

These laws are asinine!!
note to self: Don't visit NYC.
Get out of the city and state.
