When I lived in New Orleans, I was introduced to Sonny's playing and was fortunate enough to see him a bunch, as well as John Mooney, another NOla slide legend. These guys know how to tell a story with words and music.
John Mooney! Yeah, hes a good one! I got to meet and chat with him at the Newport Rhythm n' Blues festival many years ago, where he performed solo. John used to play with the rhythm section of John Hiatts', and Sonny's bands (Dave Ransom and Kenneth Blevins) but, as John said to me with a wry smile, "those other guys can afford to pay better".
Sonny seems slightly ill at ease with that Fender (an Acoustisonic?); when I saw him playing solo he was using the resonator guitar built by Larry Pogreba that looks like a cross between a hubcap and an intake manifold!
I have seen him several times on Vancouver Island. He is a great musician and a really nice guy!!!
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
Sonny is woefully underrated. Wonderful musician!!
Slide player's are inspired to no end.

Sonny plays Blues Attack, Key to the Highway, and Creole Angel.
Sounds pretty good on the acoustasonic. But it's most certainly to do with the skill of the man, not the guitar per se. Loved this.
