- The "No Motherland Without You" (or "Ode to Kim Jong-il"), is a popular North Korean song about the country's former leader, Kim Jong-il. It proclaims the talent and virtues of Kim, and the attachment of the Korean people for him as he led them out of the turmoils of the Arduous March. The repeated phrase in the song is "Without you, there would be no us! Without you, there would be no motherland!" It is also considered to be the anthem of the Songun ("military-first") policy that Kim implemented in coexistence with the Juche Idea in 1995. It is frequently broadcast on the radio and from loudspeakers on the streets of Pyongyang.

This is one of my favorite dprk songs.
Pretty weird. It says 동지(tong-ji/comrade) in the subtitle (0:35), but it sings 장군(jang-kun/general) the same time.

miado40 The version I listened before was 同志 (tong ji), it was a very early version, I remembered it very clearly, because some one gave it a funny subtitle in Chinese which was 偷雞（tou ji in Mandarin, which means stealing chicken) and 痛經 （tong jing in Mandarin, which means women's “soeng li tong” 生理痛). However it was oubvious should mean "comrade"

Actually, in Japanese at least, the Kanji characters for pine mean the "public tree," so I guess it's OUR GLORIOUS PEOPLE'S TREE now. And of course it does its part by producing hand grenades.

Just to clarify: every 김정일동지 ("Comrade Kim Jong-Il") in the lyrics is actually 김정일장군 ("General Kim Jong-Il") in this version. The lyrics was changed compared to the first version (the Pochonbo version), maybe because this version was released after his official title was changed to "General".
