I've been using a Vanford 1000 for quite some time now, Been amazing. I've just purchased the 2023 Vanquish 1000ssspg, Looks ideal for me due to the Shallow Spool, The Vanford 1000 does need quite alot of backing unfortunately if you want to use light lines. :(
backing is helpful. You can tuck in the connecting knot. On the shallow spool they have no hole and your knot sticks out until you put like half the line anyway. It serves as backing since u will not be able to cast if the knot is sticking
@@ifishcatfish just put a small sticker on the connecting knot and its done :) you can put any sticker or the one varivas gives you in the ester line box :P
I can't tell too much from pictures and from the video, but in terms of color, would this reel be a good match for the St. Croix Elite Panfish? Picking up the rod this weekend, and need a reel that not only performs well but looks good on that rod (since it is greenish in color so finding something to match it is a little hard) :)
My Vanford 1000k size has been a little work horse. I have cought some really big fish on it & the drag is quite impressive for a small lightweight reel. My vanford has some catch in it some where in the gears or it just needs cleaning & grease.
Off topic question but you obviously have a lot of experience with finesse fishing. I’m currently building a high end kid strolling rod for bass. Do you think the 2000 size would have more benefits for lures weighing 1.8-3.7 grams or 2500/3000 size with a bigger spool for castability. My main line will be 0.8 pe line.
i dont know what a kid strolling rod is, but up to 3.7 grams i would use a 2000 size reel. Assuming the rod is light enough to match the reel. If your rod is heavy, sometimes a larger reel will balance better
i would leave the worm gear of the vanquish alone. I can sell u those, but i recommend not open it. As for the knob, i do have ceramic bearings at my shop. Go to bearings folder: www.ifishtackle.com

Hello do you think cardiff is better than the new vanford 2024. I will use it for area trout fishing in tournaments. Is the drag the same and whitch one is more smoot
it is not better, for sure, why would it be better? A new reel is never worse than the older generation. That said, the new vanford is not noticeably better either. No big difference
I got the reel, its beautiful, but! I think the same guy assembled my Cardiff XR.. I dont have the experiance with picking reels apart as you. What would you reccomend me to do? Or could you make a full video of how to dissasemble the cardiff, and because you have the tools for it, measure the bearings? Thank you for an awesome review!
As handy as you are(seriously) you can make a small "spanner" out of sheet metal. Use a dremel or small grinder. Nice reel and good job on the review. Thanks.
The reel looks black on the video but dark green on Shimano's website. What's it like in person when you're outside fishing with it? Aesthetically a good match with the Soare XR rods? Cheers.
i have a LOT of lights on my table, and never have i once seen it green. That said, it could still be dark green.. To me it looks black with normal daylight, and if i really shine a lot of light it looks dark gray, but never green. It looks pretty good with the Soare XR rods. The bail is silver, instead of yellow, but the guides on the Soare XR rods are silver, so it kind of matches. Its not perfect match, if that's what you ask, but good enough for me, i will probably fish them together
Hi Mr fish. Love your videos. Just a quick question. My 2010 certate 2500r does not click on drag anymore. Can I fix myself or does it need to go to Daiwa for service. ? Thank you in advance.
I really don't know.. i have never seen a 2010 model of that reel. If it is the same like today, u can fix it yourself. You can buy the spring from any other daiwa reel and put it there. All daiwa reels use the same spring. Even when the wire was replaced with a flat metal one, they are still swappable. You can find some broken reel on ebay and buy it for the spring or maybe buy just the spring from that guy..
i still dont get why they put a tool to remove the cap handle knob but not put in a regular handle to replace it..i would gladly pay extra for a rubber smooth factory handle instead of ordering the parts... love the reels but shimano should of included another handle because not everyone will like the cork handle.... i hate it lol
exactly. Keep your stupid tool, and make a cut on the cap so it is removable with a flat screwdriver. Then instead of a tool u can give me a spare knob.
Hey man! I have been waiting for this review, so thanks a lot. But The one I am waiting even more is review of new Legalis 2023. Did you already order one?
Yes it is. In Japan. I already ordered 2 of them in size 2000. Which is funny, legalis will differ in different parts of world. Screw in handle, low gear ratio, Shallow spool and 5g less of weight - those things are desired for Japan version. The Australia/Europe/other will go only with D spools, bigger weight, normal/high gear ratio, and what is the worst awful double color handle which in not screw in. Cmon Victor, order it, we need your review. I truly bielieve it can be game changer for under 100$ reels. There are also some other cool things about new Legalis, but I let you check it yourself 😄
order it WHERE? I don't see it for sale in the usual shops that ship here, and if i ask a subscriber to buy it for me, shipping will cost as much as the reel. Businesses have much cheaper shipping. If i ask my subscriber, he has to pay for the reel to be shipped to him and then he has to pay for shipping to me and i have to pay for everything at the end. It is very expensive and i do it only for exotic items. Legalis will become available eventually and thats when i will get it and review it

There is a special shimano tool to remove the knob cap. Its a plastic tool with two pins and although a metal tool to grab the shaft of the knob and the handle. When i bought the cardiff 2 10 years back, the knob removing tool was inclusive in the package. But when take a look on the kork knob of this cardiff you reviewed, it looks not good produced and super bad quality. Another thing is by using flater bearings you can put for example a nice daiwa rcs knob on that handle. I personally dont like this knob you showed. First placed on the daiwa presso 14 and similar steez reel becaus you fell the axel of the knob shaft
Cool review, thanks for the effort! Keep these coming. Funny you hate the knob, as I think the Cardiff knob is the most sophisticated (not a fan of standard shimano knobs)
@@ifishcatfish so, got mine. Thankfully, it’s smooth. The only thing I wasn’t sure about is that the line lay was closed to the Daiwa one - not perfectly even. With mine, there was a small plastic tool for removing the knob so you don’t scratch it. Can’t wait to use it. Thanks again for the review!
its perfectly even on every reel in the vanford family. You may have to shim it, if the spool is not centered, but i have 6 vanfords and have never had to shim even one of them..
@@vladd5291 what diameter line did u put on it? Putting thicker line than what the reel was designed can mess the line lay too, as the coils are too thick and there isn't enough space for that many coils that the reel is trying to lay on one row
i can respect if you say your preference is so on and so on, but referring those features as stupid make you look really stupid yourself round knob - this is absolutely preference thing, there's nothing stupid about it carbon drag - this is actually superior drag washer to felt and is as smooth if you grease it properly, factory drag grease sucks, i have several and they perform way smoother on daiwa drag grease, on both carbon and felt, the most stupid thing is you look at the surface and thinking rough surface equal bad
I will grant your points that the knob and the drag is my preference, vs objective flaw. But this is why i call them 'stupid' instead of bad or inferior. I make it obvious that this is simply my preference and not an actual defect. And i have several videos where i go in detail about the purpose of this drag, and if you want your drag to be able to release line very quickly in case of emergency, these drags are great for that. Rough surface is detrimental to consistent line release. Especially rough and hard, like on this carbon, additionally reduces the contact surface, so to allow even faster emergency line release. My grease is extremely sticky and thick and fills the holes and evens out the surface, increases the contact between the carbon and the metal washer, and reduces the surging. Of course its a personal preference. I am told there are some reels with carbon disks that are very smooth. That is of course possible as they may have multiple drag disks which increases the contact surface many times! I always point out which reels i am talking about. I make no apology for my disgust with this surging drag behavior and round cork knobs but i feel i have always made it clear this is just my preference.
@@ifishcatfish bro next time you try calling stupid on something you don't like in Texas, you'll might not able to see what coming next to you bro. carbon drag isn't the reason for "surging" drag(we call it sticky drag), nor it being single or multi disk, i change my stradic 1000 from felt to carbon and grease it properly, its now way smoother and stronger than the stock felt drag, carbon drag is regarded as the best drag material empirically

Picking up the rod this weekend, and need a reel that not only performs well but looks good on that rod (since it is greenish in color so finding something to match it is a little hard) :)
its very dark green, almost black, but it WILL be an amazing match for that rod.
Lens calipers will make knob removal easy.
My Vanford 1000k size has been a little work horse. I have cought some really big fish on it & the drag is quite impressive for a small lightweight reel. My vanford has some catch in it some where in the gears or it just needs cleaning & grease.
Please make a video if you ever replace this knob, im not a fan of this round knob also. Thanks
planning on that already, since so many questions
Dremel end with rotary disc. Retap hole for screw as needed.
Or put end on a belt sander
I swear inwas thinking of that myself before u said it! Will try today
@@ifishcatfishgreat minds think alike
what are the sizes of the bearings to replace the bushings?
thanks Victor, Another info filled video. 👍
Good morning, mr Gary!
@@ifishcatfish mid strolling 😂
Hey Victor! Where can i get a ceramic bearing for my vanquish knob an on the back of my 2500 vanquish worm gear?
i would leave the worm gear of the vanquish alone. I can sell u those, but i recommend not open it. As for the knob, i do have ceramic bearings at my shop. Go to bearings folder: www.ifishtackle.com

@@ifishcatfish 😆 I just bought it yesterday But I watched this video of yours first, a long time ago.
Where can you buy a spare reel? I have the cardiff c2000s
Thanks for the video i would like to optain new cardiff but i realise now if anybody have soare xr and downgrade the drag shims than no other reels are necessary thanks
İ would like to upgrade bearings of my soare xr would you share the bearing informations that you mentioned in video
Thanks
i have another video where i show that and the size of the bearings. For the life of me i can't remember them..
Hi Victor, what was the grease that you applied to the gears?
i use these exotic greases i bought from hedgehog studio that are very expensive and i haven't noticed them to do much good.. they feel nice for 5 minutes and fall off like any other grease. They are called SMITH or somehting, but i don't really recommend them
Hello do you think cardiff is better than the new vanford 2024. I will use it for area trout fishing in tournaments. Is the drag the same and whitch one is more smoot
it is not better, for sure, why would it be better? A new reel is never worse than the older generation. That said, the new vanford is not noticeably better either. No big difference
@@ifishcatfish thanks mate. Im getting the ne vanford

@@ifishcatfish Wow, that was quick 👍Thank you!
@@dimrommer2788 quick? No.. But some crazy coincidence!
@@ifishcatfish haha awesome 👍 love your vids, the real reel guru!
As handy as you are(seriously) you can make a small "spanner" out of sheet metal. Use a dremel or small grinder. Nice reel and good job on the review. Thanks.
yep! I'm sure i'll ruin the first two but the third one should be alright 😆
Appreciate the insight!
Thank you for your kind reply. Keep up the great videos. Cheers
i still dont get why they put a tool to remove the cap handle knob but not put in a regular handle to replace it..i would gladly pay extra for a rubber smooth factory handle instead of ordering the parts... love the reels but shimano should of included another handle because not everyone will like the cork handle.... i hate it lol
exactly. Keep your stupid tool, and make a cut on the cap so it is removable with a flat screwdriver. Then instead of a tool u can give me a spare knob.
What is the rod you showing... Nice looking rod

HI Victor, thank you for great video, in your opinion which do you prefer cardiff xr or daiwa luvias size 2000?
for swimbaits and constant retrieve i prefer luvias. For twitching and jigging and stop and go retrieve i prefer shimano, always.

Hey man! I have been waiting for this review, so thanks a lot. But The one I am waiting even more is review of new Legalis 2023.
Did you already order one?
Is it available?
Yes it is.
Legalis will become available eventually and thats when i will get it and review it
My car diff has a mini spool and 3.73:1 ratio!
my truck diff has 3.93:1 . Love pulling the boat up the ramp with that differential. I am on maximum torque @1500RPM and the wheels are just turning..
@@ifishcatfish that torque would make it effortless!
@@needmoreboost6369 i used to struggle with my subaru on the ramps. My clutch started slipping because the gear ratio is too high speed and not suitable for pulling a boat. Is the Vanquish type of handle interchangeble with Soare body?
Yes. All shimano handles are interchangeable.

Can you tell me what's the screwdriver name and the right size? I live in Italy and I should find someone who sells it here. thanks, bye🎣
don't know what that screw is but even if i did, i still wouldn't be able to help you. I don't remember stuff like that. I have a bunch of screwdrivers here and i try them all until one of them fits...

@@masterlugia4729 there are no pins in spinning reels. Its all screws. Baitcasting reels have some pints around the spool but spinning reels don't have pins, at least i have never seen. Vanford DEFINITELY doesn't have pins anywhere, that i can tell you.

Replace whole handle then. Soare xr handle looks good.
Do you use 2000 size on all your ultralight rods?
i have 1000 too... not all of them come in 1000... I also want low gear ratio and shallow spool, so i will get whichever is available in slow gear ratio and shallow spool..

this is nicer
Dont buy Abu..... I had a Revo extreme and it only last 2 years 😂

it does. $25 shipping and $17 knob. Purchased and received already .
Just FYI Shimano knob would fit Daiwa handle with xtra bearing but Daiwa will not fit Shimano handle. Abu knob will not fit any handle but their own. No universal here.
All my other reels accept these cheap carbon knobs i get from China. But i don't have a single Abu reel. I guess my 'universe' is very small : ). But point taken!

Where can I buy this reel?
in from japan only. First you go to shimanojapan website and decide which exact model you want. Then google japan, and buy from store that ships to your country
I can confirm the plastic cap removal tool is in the box. WHO KNEW ! Embarassing but i never saw it ..

i cut it up with a blade to make it flat. Otherwise u could have had it : )
@@ifishcatfish haha I actually ordered this reel, so can’t wait to see how it performs
Putting thicker line than what the reel was designed can mess the line lay too, as the coils are too thick and there isn't enough space for that many coils that the reel is trying to lay on one row
finesse angler is such a weird bunch of people, they have so many specific subjective personal preference
Mostly just me
@@ifishcatfishI can confirm it’s not just you.
i can respect if you say your preference is so on and so on, but referring those features as stupid make you look really stupid yourself
round knob - this is absolutely preference thing, there's nothing stupid about it
carbon drag - this is actually superior drag washer to felt and is as smooth if you grease it properly, factory drag grease sucks, i have several and they perform way smoother on daiwa drag grease, on both carbon and felt, the most stupid thing is you look at the surface and thinking rough surface equal bad
@@lansiman you should have kept arguing without resorting to ghetto language and ur points would have stayed even though i don't agree. Now you are blocked and nobody will see any of this.

@@Justin-wf7op Sir, let me tell you this with full seriousness: IF you use such major force with the screwdriver, that you manage to scratch the gears, you are SO IRREPARABLY STUPID, that you have bigger problems in your life than a fishing reel.

I believe a 2024 Presso Limited is coming. Everything is lined up that way. The exist has too much resistance. The SF still has resistance. The Presso really is a Luvias.
