Great video Vic! I had the original white Aero Stradic 2000 with the exact felt washer you're showing for the Sahara and caught thousands of Largemouth Bass on it (Up to 8LB's) and never had a problem. I never even had to change the washers out. I even caught 125LB. Tarpon on it (3 1/2 hours later). Give me felt with a responsive/consistent drag any day over Carbon; especially for freshwater.
Victor, you are 110% correct. Any bass angler that wants a sticky surging drag is not very knowledgeable. Perhaps it is because many are so focused on casting rather than spinning. As a carp and bass angler I want a smooth, consistent, reliable drag. Slow, smooth, clicks are the hallmark of a quality drag system. Shimano screwed up.
Viktor, this video is spot on. I have had a Vanford 3000XGF for a year now and the drag sucks. It has sucked since I took it out of the package and it still sucks now. The washers bite really hard to get it to start up and once the drag starts clicking the pressure decreases and line starts coming out too quickly. Even for fighting bass, I noticed right away on first use. I thought it just needed a "break in" to get things running more smoothly, but I used it heavily this year and it is still crap... so, I took the felt washers out of my old Stradic Ci4+ 3000HG and put them in the Vanford. BOOM - it is pertfectly smooth and consistent. I just ordered 4 sets of felt drag washers so I never run out and can swap them when they start to wear. Why aren't all of the reviewers and RUclips guys talking about this?!?!
So do you mean that the new Vanford family of reels will have felt washers in the new models? If so, hopefully Shimano will send me some felt washers, because the Ci4+ felt washers are just a hair thinner than the carbon washers. My Vanford drag adjuster now sits ever-so-slightly lower in the spool than it did with the carbon washers. Barely noticeable, but it would be good to get felt washers that are the exact same size as the carbon washers that I took out of my Vanford. @@ifishcatfish

I use 4-10 medium light rods and fluorocarbon for leader 8-10 lb braid. I throw 1/16 and 1/8 jig heads. Sometimes I won't feel a hit because the fish is coming upstream towards me and it feels like I snagged a log or bottom, I keep pressure for a few seconds and then the fish wakes up, I get a few headahakes and a run, this occasionally happens with fish over 24". Smooth soft drag is key! If I had to guess my drags are set 10-14 ounces of drag, I try to let the rods do tge work, if fish wants to pull drag I let them have it. The carbon drags on bass sucks ass as well lol!
i know! I fish bass from time to time too, and I don't need that
@@ifishcatfish quick question! My 2019 vanquish c2500 only has one thin felt washer. Do you grease or oil it? Lately it’s to bursty on the drag. Like it’s a carbon drag. I just greased it and it’s a lot better.
@@Jay-Dawg-Fishing144 yes, i grease them, but actually even dry its not bad and you will never damage it. The metal washer slips super easy on felt, even on dry felt. Actually it probably slides on dry felt easier than on grease.
There should be no place for carbon in these reels drag, it's a bad joke😂😂😂
did u just watch my last video about the Kestrel? If not , please watch it.. u will get a kick out of it
500- 2500 size reels should be left alone! 3000 and up where the bass guys want to use 80lb braid they can do whatever seems fit,
I creek fish for big walleye and saugeye and smoothness for me is crucial! My last saugeye a few weeks ago was hooked by the skin on his top jaw, soon as I got him in the net the 1/16 ounce jig head popped off.
there there!
