- A Toronto advocate who’s also experiencing homelessness is sounding the alarms over a sharp rise in deaths that are happening in the city’s shelter system and on the streets. Shauna Hunt reports.
Im not at all surprised. Because of Trudeau I have to work two jobs now and soon that wont even be enough. I will be homeless soon.

These are the component to create *Homeless Shelter Villages* [HSV] using _Pallet Shelter's_ existing HSV products: the _Community Room_ sells for $37,000, the _Bathroom_ costs $35,000, and the _Services Office_ costs $9,000. So for only $81,000 a city can establish a HSV. The two person _Shelter 64_ costs $7,000. 100 X $7,000 = $7,000,000. For $7,201,000 the city can establish a HSV for 200 residents. For $160 million a city can establish 22 HSVs to shelter 4,000 residents.
I live a tiny room downtown that cost $1000. Toronto is trash.

Shelters are a business in Toronto. Big money maker for non-profits and profit shelters.
They are also very dangerous physically and health wise.
Imagine being in a shelter trying to get work and you can't even get a hot shower in the morning.
It costs $200 a week to stay at the Salvation Army in Saskatoon!
@@davidpristupa1629 I know what the shelters charged 15years ago per bed from the government was substantial 😔
@@davidpristupa1629 How can a shelter charge anything let alone $200 a week , especially considering the max amount given by welfare for 1 person for rent/shelter in Ontario is only $390 a month and the max amount given for 1 person on Disability is only $497 a month ? As far as I know there are very very few shelters in Ont that charge a fee to stay there . When you look at the costs to run a shelter and what they claim it costs each day per person to run the place it would be FAR cheaper to just use that money to allow homeless people to pay rent and not be homeless .
Is nothing a better alternative?
These people need help with their mental illness and drug addiction first otherwise new apts will

Its a sharp rise in homelessness you creeps

Blame the bank of Canada for increasing interest rates leaving people homeless and dying
they gonna keep increasing interest again they test people then increase the rates as long as people dont respond
🇨🇦 Life is ALWAYS more miserable under Liberal governance 😩
I'm still a Liberal, just not these Liberals
Canada should house the homeless the same way they do with refugees, in hotels and stuff.
Shelters are almost always full but Canada always seems to find space for refugees every time a new war happens.
I do not know why we prioritize refugees over homeless people. I'm not here to bash refugees but it seems that homeless people are treated unfairly when it comes to housing and finding a place to stay.
The shelter system is better in the U.S. I speak from experience.
Refugees are willing and appreciative of the temporary housing that allow them to start working and find permanent homes whereas homeless people are homeless because they don’t know how to take care of themselves and thus need to be baby sit. Even their parents gave up on them because they’ll not willing to help themselves even with multiple chances and assistance.
They can't do both, judging by your name you think that western countries just have unlimited money and space to house people, and that's not the case.
There's a reason why Canadians who are BORN here are angry at how much money and resources are being given away to refugees while not taking care of their own people first.
The western world is not infinitely wealthy, it cannot fix the problems beyond its borders and pretend it has money for its own people.
@@mysteriousfleas the only group I feel bad for are the natives because of the abuse by settlers. That trauma is hard to heal and they had a culture that respected nature and other life. Other then that, and I say again, most homeless people can’t take care of themselves even their parents don’t want them, How is it that they do drugs and die from it that others are to blame? Governments can only do so much just like family love.
@@roman2011 you have no idea what traumas people have been/going through , how or why they have ended up homeless , what their mental or physical health issues are , what their family life is like or if they even have a family , how or why someone started drinking or using drugs , how or why they continued using or how someone becomes addicted or what it takes and the help needed to get people clean and sober and to get people into a home and no longer homeless . You can look into any of the things I mentioned to educate yourself or to find ways that you can help or to make changes . I have no idea what you can do about the fact that you have no compassion , empathy or even basic human decency though .

Trauma
I don't know if its a good idea trying to discuss housing with the homeless if they're drugged out of their minds or are too traumatized to speak their piece properly. The guy being interviewed seems to be the few who is mentally sound enough to know how to solve it though so thats a plus.
Seriously though are you really qualified to make such a broad generalisation? By the way no worries there is no discussion.

The design comes from architect Bjarke Ingels and floating city builder _Oceanix._ At a roundtable on Wednesday, the UN said *floating cities could help protect people from sea-level rise while addressing the lack of affordable housing in major cities.* What once seemed like the moonshot vision of tech billionaires and idealistic architects could soon become a concrete solution to several of the world's most pressing challenges. Unlike instances in the past when these futuristic designs have been met with skepticism, the executive director of the _United Nations Human Settlement Programme_ (UN-Habitat), Maimunah Mohd Sharif, said the UN would support and shepherd this project to fruition. "Everybody on the team actually wants to get this built," said Marc Collins, the CEO of _Oceanix,_ a company that builds floating structures. "We're not just theorizing."
