    Great video! Do you ever have trouble removing the clay from the bowl (even with the corn starch)? What do you suggest then? Thanks so much for the great video post! :-) Also, how long do you leave the clay in that glass bowl? I never know when to remove it-your smaller plates on this video came out of the clay “mold” so fast. Will they keep their shape? Thanks again!

    • @KaransPotsAndGlass
      @KaransPotsAndGlass  4 года назад

      With the corn starch- removal is a breeze. If it does get stuck- more cornstarch is needed. I’d leave in the mold until it’s leatherhard- if you cover with a towel that’s usually helpful to allow foe slow even drying. If a piece is genuinely stuck- it may need to be remade... stuck clay will often crack or rip when drying and not allowed to move for shrinking. (Same with don’t allow it to overhang the edge!)

    • @KaransPotsAndGlass
      @KaransPotsAndGlass  4 года назад

      And, I should say... depending on how big the piece is, I often allow it to get leatherhard before removing... but those tiny trays were stiff enough to hold their shape to take them out while more plastic!

    Nice! I can't imagine pushing the slabs to the mold like that!
    mine definitely cracks. infact when I make a slab, there's always lots of tiny cracks on the other side.
    I tried this method yesterday wrapped it with thick towels to dry slowly overnight, first thing I saw in the morning was some huge cracks 😔

    • @KaransPotsAndGlass
      @KaransPotsAndGlass  2 года назад +1

      Hmmm, perhaps start with your clay a bit more plastic- add a bit more water to help maybe prior to rolling? (And compress on both sides after rolling!)

    Hi Karen, I bought the rolling pin your recommended on your Amazon store. It’s great. Just a question. I had to rinse it in the sink and now the wood isn’t smooth. What do you recommend I do? Should I get oil for it-what kind? Thanks so much. I love your channel.

    • @KaransPotsAndGlass
      @KaransPotsAndGlass  4 года назад

      Oh, yes- oil is probably a good idea! I have a little bottle of wood oil I use from time to time I think mine is “Watco danish oil”- but, I’m sure there are tons of other possibilities- I’m just not sure- I’d just Google to see if you could use a more household oil?? Or even beeswax?

    Do you know how to make your own glazes ?

    • @KaransPotsAndGlass
      @KaransPotsAndGlass  4 года назад

      I do, and have done it in the past- but decided long ago just to use commercial glazes for my needs and those at school. I don’t have any location which is appropriate for safely mixing glazes with adequate ventilation, nor do I have room to store the dry ingredients! There are lots of great potters on RUclips that do mix their own though!
