Depends. Here it lists less than 50k as a starting salary. As your carreer progresses, you're supposed to get somewhat better. Plus there's a difference in having a 4 years degree in philosophy, and a full 12 years education in brain surgery. All told, I think that if you pick the right path, and make it to the end, and make it well, it's likely to pay off, more sooner than later.
