Yes! but still make your own research. And I would avoid the index funds, mutual funds, or specific stocks for the time being. The 5% fixed incomes are the safest bet for now. Or hire/ work with a good market strategist. You’re safer that way

Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios in the last 3rd half of 2023 and first half of this year with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?

Safe investors should invest in hdfc bank if you have a rational return expectation...if you want high risk high return...then dont invest...fyi I am also a high risk investor but since hdfc is giving a safe opportunity of good return, hence I still prefer it...I also look at technicals and then invest rather than 100% relying on Akshat or anyone else's comment ..you still have to put your brain because it is your money

In banking stocks Price to Book ratio is more important.
As far as the consumer product company that you were discussing, has a high price to earnings ratio. But, we have to understand that how the earnings is calculated. According to Indian accounting, the massive expense on advertisement and product R&D is expensed, not depreciated. Let's see in different perspective that how much money will be required if you want to create the same consumer product company that you have discussed?

So unless someone really understand investing(which might take very long time), its much better to stick index fund ..

Better to move the investment out of this stock.

So in short check stocks in my portfolio for whether their PE is above or below their baseline PE. If its above the baseline, we can choose to cut or exit otherwise wait to maxout the profits? This goes for Large Cap stocks. For micro and small caps we need to look if they have earning potential in the coming future or not? If yes then stay put otherwise cut or exit? And I think same goes for mid caps also?

Last week, I had some cash on hand, so I purchased 70 shares of HDFC. My reasoning is that if every mutual fund has HDFC with the highest weightage, why shouldn't I?

In the case of banks, you normally look at price to book ratio. HDFC bank used to grow at more than 25 percent in the past. Hence it used to trade at expensive valuation of 4-5 P/B. From the numbers, it seems HDFC bank's loan book is not growing anymore as they are not able to raise deposits on the liabilities side. For the re-rating, it needs to grow at more than 25 percent. There is no doubt about the high quality of the bank. But the size is too big and considering the current growth scenario, the current P/B of 3 is not cheap when you compare it with other private sector banks.
Could you please explain how HDFC bank is still a good investment choice?
