  • On 14 February 2018, two friends and I set out on a 15 hour mission to summit Mitre Peak (1,692m, 5,551ft) in Milford Sound, New Zealand in a day.
Disclaimer: 5th class climbing and 4th class scrambling are dangerous. By sharing our epic, personal adventure, I am not recommending or encouraging anyone to do this hike/ascent.
    Shoutout to ASKE and JARED.
Filmed on iPhone 6s Plus and GoPro Hero 5 Black.
    Edited in iMovie.

Ain't it beautiful to be young, fit, and crazy? Reminds me of own youth and the fun we used to have scrambling up and down challenging peaks, but then we all got older and could never do it again. Congratulations on such a spectacular ascent and showing the rest of the world what a magnificent natural wonder New Zealand and Milford Sound is.

Major props to the 3 of you for getting this tough peak. Years ago I had planned to climb it but eventually ruled it out as being too involved. Coming all the way from Seattle, I did manage to get a bunch of peaks on the south island, but this was not one of them. Thanks for the video and showing me what it's like up there.

climbed Sabinyo 38 years ago...similar experience to Mitre; first lots of pulling on branches and roots and then knife-edge ridges and big drops higher up to get to the Central peak. They closed the peak (Sabyinyo) after an accident a few years later. As far as I know it's remained closed ever since.

So I just came across this today, like many I couldn't quite believe it. And how were you so chilled out Tamsin, you were handling it like it ain't no thang! Massive factor having the weather on your side like that as well. I've done some sketchy climbs myself but nothing of this magnitude in one day. I also have a huge fear of being precariously close to cliff faces so I don't actually know whether I could physically do this even though I may be fit enough but I would be keen to try it. Some of those crossings were insane - camera perspective aside. My palms were drenched just watching this so it doesn't bode well for gripping on smooth rocks! Absolutely epic to watch. A performance that's up there with the pro's. Also something you will remember for the rest of your life.
