He post that it's "without resorting to traditional taping" so if you are wanting to use traditional taping (which I was not) there are tons of those videos out there for you to watch. Long story short, I have a spot on one wall that has about 12" that needs to be "cosmetically" repaired (I know how it got there & why) so this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the video!
I'm a DIYer, and have never been able to work with drywall tape very well. I'm going to give this alternative a shot and see how well it works. It looks like it will take less time and might be "good enough" for what I need. Thanks for the shortcut approach.
Mike Streck don't do it this way. If you don't use tape, its just gonna crack again. Probably before you even paint it. If not most definently after you paint
I get problems like that like over a wood sto ve ill re tape it and the crack happens again ill v the crack re fill it and in the summer when the drywaall gains back it moisture the stuff will sqwish out. And other places i get problems are the door jack stud area so is that the same stuff as nail filler one time or beets nail is it the same?
When you have rapid heat changes like this you need to remove and replace the tape because the crack will be shrinking and contracting constantly, the frame that the drywall is applied to should be dry by now due to it's location unless it is getting wet somehow, when you expose the old tape you may find that it is the fibre tape, which could be another reason for the failure as it is not near as strong as the paper tape, I would also use the 'hot' compound ( powdered mud you have to mix) as the moisture in the premixed mud could give you problems given the location of the join, as for the jack stud issue, when are drywaller's gonna learn not to do that ?.....again all you can do is re tape with strongest bond possible as described above, hope this helps* MP
I used dura bond 90 and when the school type heater cut in the cracked formed and i fixed it when it was off and it squeezed out but ill try that spacle stuff maybee there is a dry wall expanshon joint i could put there
Umm, no. Remove the old tape completely and re-tape with mesh tape and quick-set. I can guarantee you your quick fix will crack again. If you're not going to tape it, at least use quick-set. That spackle you used is for small nail holes and such.
Pretty sure that will just crack again pretty soon after as there is now no tape on the actual joint of the board you just filled the crack up which is no use
hey bro would have been nice to see your knife work but yer shoulder was in the way...or the camera was ill placed...or whatever...great video, thanks,! i like using that "snow putty" a lot too, but never as you demo here...thanks! what a time saver build / fill technique for those pesky Tape pop outs ("fails")...I will use on a project coming up...paintersrule
The original tape was there because two pieces of drywall were butted up to each other and that is how you cover the crack and low spot. Now you came along and removed the old tape but you didn't retape the repair. Your repair is useless because it will just crack again. You don't know what you are doing.
I am sure he thinks he knows what he is doing but he is wrong. I have repaired cracks in my wall similar to these cracks and they recracked in a couple years. Trust me, tape the seam.
worthless advise. you should of re taped that joint with paper tape. just putting joint compound into the seam wont prevent a crack from showing again. separation of the tape means the tape was never in bedded right from the start. what you showed us is a joke. just another do it yourself-er with out any knowledge of what you are even doing. lol
Your wrong. I just did this today just like he did. It dried, I sanded and it's way better than the damn bubbled tape like had before!! From the bad tape job.
@@tweedie2100 - I did that on 3 of my cracks, twice, and the cracks came back in less than two years each time. Could be I did something wrong or used a bad product, but it doesn't seem to be the right solution.

Thanks for the help. It worked great in the small area I needed it.
It would help me much more if I can see what you are doing every step of the way. Thank you!
please help, I'm fixing holes in my doors with dry wall compound but why every time I smoothen it out as it dries starts forming crack like lines
you can try using builders bog first. it's a two part filler that needs mixing together for it to cure and go off hard, then skim with plaster
Hamza Halal Use bondo not plaster .IF YOU DONT ITS OK JUST GO OVER AGAIN FILLING THE LINES .Sand it and if needed it put another coat .

Good instructions and demonstration. Helped me save money.

What is the name of that spackle?
Thanks. A sharp nice is required for readers.
pretty informative info, thank you, but, your camera placement needs to be parallel or in front of you please. thanks!
Isn't that just going to crack again because you did tape it?
Squid Rider so how do you do it? I got to make a similar repair
how big of a crew do you have ?
Thank you for this video!!
Is this a video of how "not" to do a drywall repair?
Great info! Thank you for sharing!
Can't believe the mess he left on the floor, at the bottom of each of those seams (8:28 onwards).

The title should be “Can’t see it from my house...Check Please”
Most of the time I can't see what you're doing, since your right shoulder is between the camera and your work.
Thank You!
Very helpful. Thanks.
Nice shots of your back 🙄
That's what they get for hanging drywall vertically and not embedding the joint tape right. Stagger you drywall folks.
Thats exactly how you dont do it, it will crack if not taped
I am sure he thinks he knows what he is doing but he is wrong. I have repaired cracks in my wall similar to these cracks and they recracked in a couple years. Trust me, tape the seam.
that is the right way just use a bigger knife to fill with, more control.
Waste of time this guy has no idea what hes doing
bad camera angle but good overall fix

bobby bob Your f ing right .Who taught this guy.
I said fuck it used locktite spray adhesive put the same tape up lol . Guess what perfect . No seams nothing 👍❤💋

Not to say a crack won't show later... But hopefully not!
It will
Thanks for this video, it worked!
MY ADVISE GO LOOK FOR JOSE HE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO TAPE AND MUD.
You cant see what you are doing because you are in front of the camera
You block the view of what you're doing most of the time.
most likely from watering a big plant 👍
Lol... excuse #43 - the plants...
Got a nice shot of your back. and not the work you did !
You’re better off
Poor guy has been misinformed. I've seen a lot worse.
that's not a professional way to fix wall cracks. ..
I am a pro, and that is the right way.

This is a joke right?? Lol apparently he's never heard of tape
liked it
Wow this guy is a NEWB!!!! Just paint the house bud don't touch the drywall Ok!!!
To bad your hiding what your doing
Wish I saw this before I took all the tape off :)
you talk too slow.
Just speed up the video. Click on the settings button on the lower right and set playback speed to 2. Much better after that
Maybe you hear too fast.
