    You do a great job of explaining the anatomy of each strike, starting with what leads it and what is actually moving. Most people see a hook as an arm movement, when you've clearly explained it comes from your hips and back, which is very important.
    Subscribing to you has been the most enjoyable experience I've had subscribing to anyone on youtube.

    Always pivot your feet for the uppercuts you should've taught footwork as well not just the uppercut Rookie Mistake

    Hey Chad, didnt win my fight but I took our advice and when I did get in I tried to punch as much as I could. Boxing is tough so fair play to anyone starting out. Once off for me but it was a great challenge and we raised loads a money for a great cause. Good luck everyone with your boxing

    This is a good video but, you should learn a bit more about boxing before uou try to teach others

    Your uppercut looks more like a shovel hook

    @codeman95291 long runs are necessary for boxing, partially for endurance, but also to stay loose. But when in a fight do you go at a jogging pace? Never. It's always bursts of action, the very small breaks, then bursts of action again which is why I like sprints and high intensity training for fighting more than I like slower, longer training. There has to be some progression though, always drop your rest periods & increase your sprint durations.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  12 лет назад

    @ttubeheadd Practice. Sparring and getting punches is the only way you're going to learn how to be calm while you're getting hit and trying to hit back. These videos will give you the skills you need to win a fight and learn how to defend yourself. But if you want to learn how to be calm and focused during a fight, you have to get in the ring and spar.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  12 лет назад

    @JusticeGunblade Yes. Keep your arm/elbow firm as well. You don't want to extend your arm too far as it will take away from the punch. But lead with your hips/shoulders. I have family in Argentina, will get there some day. I've heard great things! Good luck with the boxing.

    2 Ways to throw a hook - the way I show in the video, and the way you mentioned just now. Both are great, but I feel I get more power with the one I show in the video. Both can be used though. I grew up being shown the one above in the video.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  12 лет назад

    I know the feeling. For me it just clicked one day. After hours of practice. Just really focus on turning that knee and hip forward, don't try and do anything with the arm except get it in the right position. That should help you throw it more loosely.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  12 лет назад

    @MrMsiegel That's a great drill! Another thing fighters should be doing that I don't talk about a lot, is shadowboxing while you're jogging. It'll create more lactic acid and more pressure on the lungs. Give that a shot next time you go for a jog.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  11 лет назад

    That's awesome and good luck! Keep your head moving as you go in. And once you're in, stay there. Don't get lazy and back out again, stay in your range, cloud their punches, and keep working.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  11 лет назад

    You just have to get more comfortable in the ring man. That'll come with time. I wouldn't worry about it at all. You'll get there, and I'll get some videos up soon about this topic.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  12 лет назад

    @joetheazl If I'm understanding you correctly, yes. Your lower body starts the motion, the upper just carries out what the lower busy has already started.

  • @ChadHowse
    @ChadHowse  12 лет назад

    Ya that's how I learned to throw an effective hook. There's a balance though, you don't want to lead too much, it takes away from your power.

  • @ChadHowse

    @almeidadave1 I fought for a couple years under an awesome trainer who taught me a lot.

  • @ChadHowse

    You want to throw the hook with your lead hand. Which in this case would be your left.

    Power is all about throwing in a natural, fluid rhythm. Turning your fists horizontal on straight punches follows the natural motion in your shoulders and elbows to add more snap and power. This isn't as much of the case with hooks unless the hook is very close. Look at some of the best with hooks (Jones Jr, Frazier, Tyson) and they typically throw it with their fists vertical. #TeamVerticalHooks

    @codeman95291 Hey I currently am in training i am not pro yet but my trainer is one of the top up and coming young trainers around but to get to my point anyway i agree with what Chad said i just wanted to tell you what one of the things i do during my road work is i go running in the park and i count trees every 15th tree i will sprint for 20 trees then back to normal pace till another 15 etc etc it helps your body/breathing get adjusted to the stop and go pace of a fight hope it helped

    Hi,
    Great videos. I am taking part in a charity fight night. I am shorter than my opponent. I just need a few basic combinations that i can remember. I saw your vid on fighting a taller opponent, v helpful. My big problem is dropping my defense when I go in to puch. Any tips greatly appreciated. I just want to look like Ive learn something and can hold my own. Thanks a mill

  • @Naffini
    @Naffini 13 лет назад

    @Golouschin Yeah I agree, there's a certain amount of figuring out what works for you. Not everything has to be what some would consider perfect technique to be effective. In my opinion anyway, for instance I get a lot of flack because most of the time I don't turn my hooks over. Especially with the right hand, but I seem to land faster and cleaner that way.

  • @Naffini
    @Naffini 13 лет назад

    @Golouschin I disagree, the only time I keep my back foot on the ground when throwing an uppercut is if I'm in really tight. I don't think you generate enough power otherwise. Also the thing you said about throwing a hook counts for all strikes really, you should always be effectively aiming behind your target.

    For some reason, when the video first started, I thought you were going to be one of those body-builder types who had poor technique. I was wrong! Great technique and instruction, man! I look forward to learning much more from you; thanks a lot!

    So it's feet and knees, then hips and punch with the shoulder, I think I got it! Thanks for explaining the knee and feet before hips!! I always made the mistake of hips without feet and it's no wonder I felt funny and difficult! Good video!

    @ChadHowseFitness hey man what do you think is more important to improve your endurance/conditioning for boxing long distance running or like 30 second intervals at a high intensity? i know it's good to both but what do you think is more helpful? thanks

  • @krisfox9833
    @krisfox9833 11 лет назад

    Good vids but can I say without any disrespect intended, maybe in future vids you could quickly cover when those punches can be thrown and how to slip the shot that allows you to offload the hook and uppercut successfully.

  • @TheGaryChandler
    @TheGaryChandler 12 лет назад

    if you turn you're hand over it's more powerful but less accurate because of surfcae area. if you dont turn your hand you have a greater surface to hit but the extra added rotational force isnt there.

  • @matthynes93
    @matthynes93 12 лет назад

    When throwing an uppercut like that you better make sure your non-punching hand is all the way up. Leaving yourself open for an easy straight right/left hook and vice versa for south paws.

  • @ttubeheadd

    thats a very good lesson but still, this is all theory, if you get a good punch to the face you will forgett everything and start cutting loose, so my question is how can i keep calm and focused ??

  • @emptySrting

    Uppercut- incorrect . You need to put your weight to the opposite leg, so your body would twist to the opposite leg. The way author showed uppercut is more like side-step uppercut.

    Nice lessons, but I really wish the camera man wasn't standing so close. You miss the actually foot movement of a pivot, which gives better perspective.

  • @13jayfos

    What do you think about trying to hold your arm back for a split second after the pivot, going for kind of a rubber-band snap at the end of the hook?

  • @ChadHowse

    It's how you throw the punch that will make the greatest difference. Throw it with your body, and just let your arm come along for the ride. Tyson had a great left hook - Cotto and Mickey Ward, great lefts to the body.

    so you move the knee to start the kinetic chain which is when the hips then follow through as well as the rest of the body such as the pivot of the feet, arms, and uppper body?

    • @skip741x3
      @skip741x3 6 лет назад

      In boxing and martial arts Everything begins in the hips, your center and core..from there the rotational energy travels in 2 directions...upward from the hips thru the torso to the chest and shoulders and then the arm itself where the energy is released thru the fist into its target....the downward flow is from the hips thru the legs , then through the feet which grounds the flow ... Energy is moving in Both directions Not just UP...a fighter who has not grounded their energy will have poor balance and little power..being grounded does Not mean being static or flat footed..the feet are always in motion and the energy grounds thru the balls of the feet...You may have heard the term "sit Down on your punches" this means grounding urself,twisting Down,or sitting down so to speak as you rotate and punch as opposed to pushing Off and Up with say your back foot as you throw a cross...Just as any boxer will tell you that a punch Does Not begin with ur hand so also it does Not begin with the feet It all begins in the hips ...

    Jericho,
    Not all men are gentlemen.
    Prior to going to a new club, if you find and admit to what you can do better next time... when you go into a new club, you'll behave differently and gain more respect as you're are honest and straight forward with how you have fell short, and importantly, how determined you are to learn.
    Remember, this is a step on the journey not the journey itself. Point being, don't get to involved with the small things that happen on the way.. keep your focus, No1 rule
