Damn this came out awesome and it took me like five seconds. I am no means a graphic artist so any quick tutorials like this just speed up my day, thanks!
That's awesome you just saved my life, I need to produce a really (and I mean REALLY) big image that's going to be printed, so the quality needs to be 100% so it'll look good, but I couldn't find any patterns or backgrounds that were big enough or could be resized without losing quality. This is going to make my life much easier - and the project look much better. Thanks again!
This is going to help me out so much in the future! Please tell me you will have one for things like grass and rocks, I can't draw cliffs/mountains at all!
Very useful information. I have to agree with others who point out how fast you talk. Trying to synch what you are saying to what you are doing is difficult. Other than that, great work.
great tutorial howard, thank you. it'd be great if you could slow down a bit talking though as it is a little difficult to listen to you and work at the same time
Wow, just for fun I only watched your final result, and then I tried to recreate it myself. After that, I watched how you did it. I did it completely different, but the results are quite similar..
CS6 has changed its location. If you want to bring it back to the filter menu, then press Ctrl + K to open your preferences, click Plug-Ins on the right, and then add a check to your "Show all Filter Gallery groups and names" option.
i need to make this for a 3d model i created.. would adding that thing for light direction ruin it for for when i place the light in 3d software for render? p.s. m totally new in texturing
Hey, Howard (I hope that is your name): May be it is a stupid question... but... ¿Can you do this exact same tutorial in 3DS Max using bump maps and reflections and all that stuff? If you can't doit ¿can you tell me of someone that can? Thank You (Sorry for the english, it is not my native language)

This a very good tutorial for people that require textures for their 3D objects.
I hope you'll have time to upload other texture tutorials.
Brilliant!! Never thought to use the chrome filter like that!
i found that Render>Fibers works well for making wood textures too (instead of blurring noise)
A really incredible result! Thanks a million! :)
Wow, really cool what you did with that Sketch effect. Thanks for this great tutorial!
Chrome? Genius. Gosh, I might actually start using these filters because I never liked them before but now I see how they can be useful. :p Thanks!
I had most of that figured out except using the Chrome filter to randomize the wood grain. Very clever. I'll definitely be stealing that trick!
This is just amazing. I whould have never come up with anything like this.
