I do appreciate this - thank you.
However, I can't help noticing, as a woman, that there are no mentions of the female aspects that I can detect so far - except that ONE concerning Beelzebubs wife? I guess that is the best that can be hoped for, as she was described as a passive and was "given " to him. sigh... Could the denial and supression and deliberate shutting out of the feminine power through - basically - brute force, be the greatest reason that we are in such a sad state of affairs on planet earth?

It is fascinating that in the Gurdjieff "world" romantic love seems to not exist at all. And the female/woman rarely gets mentioned at all except in rare contexts. In fact, even in the wider Gurdjieff universe of books and articles, Gurdjieff's wives or children are never discussed. Was it intentional or a result of the phallic/patriarchal universe he created. He does mention his beloved grandmother and mother in some instances but that is about it. Sex is a mere aspect of procreation to him. Yet, he mentions that sexual energy is the prime source of creativity (like Freud said). As man a man, I think Gurdjieff is directed at men and not women. Being that male aggression and violence are destroying mother earth, maybe Gurdjieff saw it as his mission to correct this "male" problem. Whether or not he succeeded is highly doubtful. I still enjoy his humor and unrelenting criticism on humanity. Is he part of the problem or the solution? I am never sure, but I think that was his point. Oh, I forgot he really rags on feminism in his books too. Maybe this is his blind spot. I think a female world leadership might save humanity. The Patriarchy has only made a mess of Mother Earth.

The problems of the Earth are directly attributable to the problems inherent in humankind. Gender is irrelevant, it reads the same if you make the kings into queens. Do that if you have to make it resound within yourself. Gurjieff is simply speaking in the way appropriate to his era- "passive" simply means recieve the seed as opposed to actively distributing it. You are doing yourself a great disservice by focusing on what you are.

Why would he discuss "romantic" love, when he just dismantled the notion that we engage in Love at all? Obviously, the same asterisk he puts on love as we know it applies to romantic love as well, right?

I think he is pessimistic about our idea of love and to me he writes pretty neutrally, only mentions gender when it's necessary
