    Big opportunity for BYD to use the partnership with Mercedes Benz to develop Denza as a premium brand. The Tang has great potential but has budget materials, poor ride and lacks refinement. It is odd that BYD did not address those issues for the Denza version. Premium interior materials, more sound deadening and premium dampers could be fitted. ☮️

      You must be talking of the pre-2021/22 Tang then, because the updated Tang EV has a much better interior and a very nice ride quality. I can't say it lacks any refinement other than in the terms of software and roadnoise

    There are some misunderstanding , you can EXPORT car to china as a 100% foreign-funded firms , but if foreign-funded firms want PRODUCE car in china you need est a JV company with chinese local car maker ,as chinese called "Market for technology".
    But In 2018 Tesla set the 1st 100% foreign-funded firms that produce car in china, and then Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of china decide after 1/1/2022 foreigner can set 100% foreign owned company that produce car in china ,and there already 4 companys TESLA ,SCANIA ,VOLVO TRACK, and Hyundai.

    • @tren133
      @tren133 2 года назад +2

      That mashup at least makes more sense. Geely only does the platform and drivetrain while Mercedes does the interior and exterior. This Denza is much mroe awkward since 90% plus of the car is just a BYD Tang, and even if Merc was giving it a good try, it would have been hard to make it that premium. Better to start out with a clean sheet joing venture like with the new Smart EV.

      @@backwoodsbungalow9674 Yes and no, as it’s only mandatory to set up a joint ventures in China - but a deal to rebadge local vehicles had been almost unheard of. Mercedes’s local partner, BAIC, has been faithfully pumping out localized (i.e. elongated) Mercedes models from the A class to the E class since 2005, while BYD really hadn’t much link to the Germans. Which means the Denza really is a bit of an oddball. Maybe both sides saw genuine need to corporate at the time.

    • @betterserenity
      @betterserenity 2 года назад +3

      Foreign manufacturers were forced to form joint ventures with local companies in the past, but last year it is no longer mandatory because of WTO rules. Foreign companies now can form their own 100% owned company. Some companies like BMW bought out their chinese partner and Tesla has setup up its 100% owned company in China as well.

    So disappointing. You opened this episode with an myth that Chinese government asked foreign companies for JV brands in 2009. Please provide evidence that Chinese government did such thing. If your claim is true, why didn't VW-FAW or VW-SAIC establish JV brands? VW Faw only spin off Jetta brand near 2020. Toyota-FAW or Toyota-GAC have no JV brands either. The only such JV brands I can think of is Nissan-DongFeng JV establishing Venucia brand. If Chinese government was firmly asking foreign carmakers for JV brands, why did only few carmakers do so? Again, please provide evidence. Otherwise you are spreading fake news.
