@aga I think they just meant setting it in modern times. They didn’t saying anything about making it “woke” (which, btw, wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing if it did. Why deny minority actors a chance to put Gilbert & Sullivan on their resume?)
They did it and good in Australia. The setting is the same, the costumes borrowed their look from Pirates of the Caribbean. Anthony Warlow is the pirate king, i suggest you look it up on youtube!
I would like this musical more if my mother didn’t hit me during the intermission when I saw this musical. I did not deserve that no matter what she said. She was the one that called me mentally ill.
Agreed. I love Kevin Kline, but for this opera's Richard Temple/Donald Adams role, I'd have pictured someone like Brian Blessed in the part. Also, let's just say there's a reason Phoebus doesn't sing in _The Hunchback of Notre Dame._
@@Strobemorsel Because he did a good job and is iconic in the part. Very athletic as well. He may not be the best singer, but I loved his version it was very comedic.
An astonishingly talented performer- he sings, he acts, is incredibly athletic. A pure entertainer.
I can't be the only one who finds him incredibly handsome...
Me, too. So, you're not.
Kevin Kline??
Ridiculous to assume so.
He's very charismatic and having a hugely fun time in this role, even as demanding as it is.
The choreo of this scene is brilliant
Pirate king till the end...👁️🖤✌️
I love everything Kevin Kline is in.
Fish Called Wanda.
But my favorite has always been SILVERADO❤👍👍🤠🤠🤠
Not only was he great in Silverado, but a great cast and one of the best westerns ever IMHO.
He's always a brilliant voice actor too, as Phoebus, Tulio and Mr Fischoeder.
Love this production!!
My 14 year old brother sang this at his middle school concert
Me after downloading a ubisoft game illegally and getting 5 viruses on my computer:
Dude xD
Wonderful! The panache and the comedy!
This is the same as the Major General tune!
“You got Pirate King in my Major General!”
“No, you got Major General in my Pirate King!”
Gilbert & Sullivan never wasted a good tune!
Yeah
This is The musical Pirates.Same music different orchestration😊.
Yeah, musicals usually follow a theme so they follow on as a musical narrative…
Super!!! 😂😂😂👏👏👏
First central park production on the Broadway stage, and the film version.
The Pirate King (Kevin Kline) sings of how he would rather live and die a Pirate than anything else in 'Oh, Better Far to Live and Die'.
The Pirate King (Kevin Kline) sings of how he would rather live and die a Pirate than anything else in 'Oh, Better Far to Live
What ever happened to Kevin Kline? He was so talented!
He's still kicking it, apparently. His most famous 21st century role would be voicing Calvin Fischoeder from Bob's Burgers.
He plays Maurice in Beauty and The Beast live action!
The Stage
I can see Broadway trying to bring back this production with a more modern spin
Don't modernize this or make it woke!

@wjsproductions1784 tbh pirates doesn't need adaptation, whereas the Mkkadp on the other hand... for modern audiences that's gonna need work

"I am the Pirate Queen! To fight the patriarchy is a wonderful thing!"
This movie is fantastic
There is a fantastic video of Tim Curry singing this. It was a stage production, not a movie.
They both bring their different personalities to the part.. Tim is very much like Peter Pan…Kevin is very athletic in his style.
I never saw the musical of this would love to see this
The entirety of the film is excellent - every moment!! 💕
From the film version of the central park production.
Did this guy find the one piece before luffy?
Luffy after getting the one piece
Luffy needs to sing this
My favourite Muppets ... which is saying something ...
I aspire to be a pirate king.
Just noticed the Pirate King was hanging onto the figurehead's boob at the end just before he fell in.
Luffy could never be him
luffy is better

Yes. Luffy would be a different kind of Pirate King given his demeanor and insane powers.

Trauma dump much
Topsy turvy. Ha ha.
great actor but butchered gilbert and sullivan!!!!

More like made an extremely boring opera entertaining for once.
…then why did he win the Tony for playing this part?
@@Strobemorsel Because he did a good job and is iconic in the part. Very athletic as well. He may not be the best singer, but I loved his version it was very comedic.
Why do people think this is good?
Because it is. You had to be there.
Boooo Ted Hamilton sang it much better
Tim Curry also sang it better.
This is TERRIBLE. Tim Curry did it MUCH better.
Tim Curry makes everything better. Even crummy movies are better if he is in them. Love him to pieces!
Yum
