The ECO really was a crack outfit in these years. Their Mozart Concertos with Barenboim, Peter Serkin, Perahia, and Uchida (in the 80's) are outstanding. And their Bach with Leppard (including the VC's with Grumiaux) is marvelous, including (indeed, especially) these Brandenburgs.
The counterpoint comes through brilliantly, yet with gorgeous tone. As good as it gets. Raymond Leppard, RIP.
