Hi I must comment on ur video ......ur info is vvvv clearly explain......that's my favorite plant and I love the way u go into every detail about the whale fin ..I understood every word ...u take gd care of urself and the plants and God bless you.
Thanks so much for sharing your tips! Lots of stuff I hadn't really heard about the whale fin before. You have so many gorgeous plants! I'm glad your variegated one made it through!
My pleasure Twisty! Hopefully some of these tips are helpful! I do love my whale fins and their big paddles - i think for whale fins bigger is better! 🙈thank you! he's my pride and joy! hope you're well lovely!
Aw Judy you're too sweet! Thank you for stopping by! If you are on the Rare Tropical Plant Buy and sell page on FB I've seen a couple of whale fins be listed recently! There are also a few on ebay atm!
Another wonderful video lovely! I always find such great tips here! Super insightful and the music and video overall was so calming and destressing so thank you :)
Hmmm, I think I’ve underwatered my whale fin. It’s given me a baby, which shocked the heck out of me, but it’s been a very slow process! I might replant my sanseveria family this weekend and check out their roots. Thanks for the tips!
Hey Sarah! hope youve been well love! pleased you found some of these tips helpful! Sounds like a plan for the weekend! And congratulations on the new whale baby!
This is really helpful Jessy! I "killed" one of my Sansevieria (Or Dracaena, but I hate the renaming tbh! haha) and I always assumed it was root ROT but I've suspected for a while that it was the opposite... this video has pretty much confirmed for me that I actually underwatered it! Luckily I also managed to save it :)
Aw pleased you enjoyed it Mary! I feel like drying out is something that didnt get talked a lot with sansevieria - I guess its probably to do with their reputation of being hardy plants so overwatering was what you had to look for. Pleased you also were able to save your baby!!!
aw eve thank you so much! I really appreciate it! :) where abouts are you? If you're in Australia, there's been a couple of whalefins thats been posted on the fb market places recently!
Thanks! I love my sansevierias. I still think of them as sansevierias! And just to let you know with the worm castings from the Enfeild shop you can buy 1 kg for $15 or 3kgs for $40. I got a 1kg bag. It smells like urine! All the best. And they have really good pest sprays that aren't available in bunnings too. I think your Dad would love that shop too!
You're most welcome lovely! Oh thanks for the word of warning! Actually thanks so much for the idea - I'll definitely bring my dad along! He's just had surgery so it might be a while but I'll let him know so itll be something he can look forward to!
Wonderful garden and plants.. Why is it so expensive compared to other plants!? I have a question that confuses me, which is that there are plants that do not like water very much, but at the same time they can be propagated by placing them in water for rooting!?? Why!!? Sansevieria is one of these plants!!
This was such a helpful video! Best I’ve seen on whale fins☺️ Any tips on getting that flat paddle shape? I bought a pot of 7 fins for $25 USD about a week ago with some leaves almost a foot long but still have a taco shape🤷🏻♀️
so welcome! and I really appreciate the feedback Ivy! 7 fins for $25!!! what a steal! Are the fins in a cramped pot? I find if my fins are clumped together they tend to become tacos because their leaves are touching one another
I started out with one Whale fin 2 years ago and I’m propagating a bunch now because some are about to bust out of the pot . If I just keep one large fin and not let anyone babies grow will that help the mother to grow larger ? I was wondering because they are multiplying like crazy tfs ❤
Hey Jess. I’m a big fan of whale fin as well. And I have a whale fin variegated version. it seems like the variegation is kinda fading/turning greener slowly. Just wondering how’s yours going? I’m not sure if I need to stick it outdoor with more lights or not. But I don’t want to burn the leaves. Please let me know if you have any idea. Thanks.
Thanks for the info. Just got 6 fins for SGD24 which I think it is rare in a retail shop in a high end shopping mall. Found 2 holes, like a toothpick was poke through it, in one fin and another with a few tiny brown spots. Sun damaged or pests? Is it true that snake plants stop growing if the 'tongue', the tip at the top of the plant, is broken? So for the whale fin, if the tip dries up, will it affect its growth in size or will it grow new pups to compensate? When is a good time to seperate the pups from the mom, by size, height or age? You mentioned that with fertilizer, they grow faster. Fin size or number of fins? Saw one pot with a broader fin but damaged tip and another with smaller pups. So hoping to get answers before buying. Hope to hear from you soon.
hello! hopefully answers below will help: 1. if the holes were a bit mushy it might be pests. 2. I haven't heard of damage to the tongue prohibiting growth but if the tip dries up I know there is something wrong (e.g not enough watering). 3. I would suggest looking at how big the tuber is before separation 4. Re fertiliser - both! If there are smaller pups i would get the plant! its a good sign
I was watching another video on these plants when yours popped up and I actually thought you called this a Wild Fin Sansevieria . I do realize these can grow very large but I don't understand why they are so very expensive.
Hi Lind! Thanks so much for stopping by - I think the variegated ones can get quite pricey - i saw one for $200 the other day! (but it was quite large) I think people like them because of their shape!
Hi, I have a question. I bought a masoniana last year. And it grew a pup immediately. I propagated it into a 2nd pot. Now both pots have 3 leaves each. The leaves are all similarly sized to each other, and no real sign that they're getting taller. How long does it take for you to see those enormous leaves appear? Thanks. Lin
I started to repot my whale fins a week ago because they almost got no soil my pot was broken because of too much roots... after 3days, one of my whale fins turns into yellow color and after a day another one of my yellow fins turns into yellow and in the 5th day now... my plants start to decay it turns into brown yellow color, and I remove it to stop the infecting of rotting😭😭
oh no!!! good luck Rupal! i hope youve managed to stop the rot! i find that after i repot plants with rot I stop watering for a couple of days to make sure I'm not giving extra moisture to promote more rot. Fingers crossed for you!

Hello..my whale fin is getting yellow..any suggestions on how to make it greener again?
Hello! It could be because of underwatering or too much sun!
I want to continue calling them Sansevierias myself. Do you sell any of your Whales Fin? Thanks for your video
Hey Tina! me too! Dracaena is a different plant completely in my mind! I haven't but perhaps in the summer when there are more pups i'd consider!
What is in your soil mix
