- Flash warning! Also BEFORE YOU ASK- no, this is not the dream smp animation I was previously working on. It's one I decided to do recently but hopefully I'll turn my attention back to the big dsmp projects in the future.
I was in a bit of an animation slump but now I feel like I'm back in business! If you want to see my process working on this as well, we had a number of streams on twitch where I was making frames :) come join!
Also sorry if I'm not titling this correctly- these days I really don't know if what I make classifies as an animation or animatic since they usually have a little bit of both worlds. Woe is pap.

Back with another paprikup banger! I really like how instead of focusing on one fiance, all three were shown with their own thoughts and journeys.
The colors make it feel so melancholic, like something was lost between them, and that even their memories are more distant.
The transition of Karl's eyes to Quackity's wings, and to Sapnap's tail, had kind of an interconnected sense, yet they only appeared one at a time, never together. Despite them all being connected to one another from their past vows, they're still alone in the present and feeling more distant than ever. Love this!!
I aspire to your level artistry so much. The way you use color is absolutely stunning and your style is so unique and recognizable. I could fish for hours about this animation alone. Currently trying to figure out what that beautiful scene with the two figures with a flowers(?) on their heads symbolizes.
I love how the animation subtly shifts from the perspectives of each. It doesn’t outright show their face when the switches occur but sometimes like what the scene is looks like it’s from that characters point of view. Like the “maybe it was my fault” line switching from Sapnap to a picture of the book. Showing how (at least in my interpretation) Sapnap tried to get them all together and it didn’t work and he blames himself, but also Karl’s memory loss and time travel was a huge reason why the relationship faltered, so it’s partially Karl’s fault without anyone (Karl included due to his memory loss) knowing so.

The scene with the winged and floral figure represent Karl and Quackity, perfect for the line “a way to make us whole again” as the primary conflict in the fiancée’s relationship is between those two, and all Sapnap wants is for them to fall back into the love they all shared. IM LOSING MY MARBLES
This animation is just so…delicate? And beautiful? Like it feels whole, I don’t really know how to describe it other than than satisfyingly dreamlike. I absolutely admire Paprikup’s work *wow*.
It’s hard to hold on to yourself when you forget that you’re loved by someone. Thorns in the heart and mind grow from many different sources, the strongest usually planted by fear and doubt. With Quackity, the thorns grew from helplessness, from the fight to not be trampled on and used and forgotten, especially not by those he cared about. So he fought to get stronger. With Karl, the thorns grew from no fault of his own, forgetfulness won and apathy took hold, despite his efforts all being for those he cares about. With Sapnap, it’s a lonely pain. Friends around him keep changing in terrible ways (did he really know them at all?) and it seems that he’s the common denominator. Are things somehow his fault? Can he fix what’s so shattered?
The thorns are insidious and they tangle up in every thought. And then their fears are realized; Quackity is left behind and forgotten (used used used); Karl shifts just a little too much and forgets what it was he cared about (can he even fix the timeline if he keeps forgetting what he’s trying to help?); Sapnap watches another group rip apart with him at the epicenter (it’s happened again).
And then, of course, there are the things completely outside of their control that causes the unraveling to cut even deeper. A friend turned monster, a friend lost forever, a friend turned stranger.
Hopefully they can find the rose buried beneath it all, and remember that there’s still love. Love and pain go hand in hand.

oh boy i havent rambled under an animation vid in a while but i know it makes the creator happy so !!!
first impression rambles : i kept gasping cause every part was more beautiful than the next, shoutout to 0:38 this part must have been crazy to animate, good job!!! my heart is broken !!! and 1:06 THIS OH MY GOD THE COLOURS, THE MOVEMENT, THE TEXTURE, THE THE... THE V I B E S are IMMACULATE
okaokay this is the "i rewatch this a few times and analyse" part
first off i tried to see and noticed symbolism for each one of the fiances, and i love that
quackity's thorns and vines that i think has been used in other vids of yours, although that's a corrupted (withered?) version of him and the wings also symbolyse the quacksters, maybe less corrupted we'll see, i noticed karl's loop like on his sweater and eyes, and sapnap's tail (reminiscent of bad's, i think)
the vid starts with thorns in reach of quackity but not quite there yet, looming in the back, something ominous in his future, a corruption
there's the same feeling with sapnap, when the dream team was still whole, and the prison being a symbol of how it all goes downhill, with the "?" showing how they can't even begin to imagine what will happen?
OH MY GOD THERE'S HIDDEN STUFF IN THE SUBTITLES WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME /pos
i was going to say the lyrics even say "how little i know" but THE SUBS say "I should have known" AAAH
i love love love seeing the star divide in three for their rings (im not crying, im not -)
yeah we see karl's spinny eyes, quackity's wings, sapnap's... heart shaped tail?
I ALSO REALISED SAP'S SYMBOLISED BY A STAR (0:16 it's on his shirt) DOES SPLITTING THE STAR IN THEIR RINGS ALSO SYMBOLISE HOW LATER, HE'S KIND OF THE ONE TRYING TO KEEP EVERYONE TOGETHER, he took on that role of binding them together, or trying to
"i saw him fighting in the sand, i tried to fight it, take his hand"
its a huge leap in the future to show quackity and charlie but i completely see how the lyrics fit perfectly (making me think of quackity placing sand and telling charlie to go on it lol)
that whole it is very fluid and beautiful
"and then he was gone" with quackity holding two tokens, one sad (but its his symbol im pretty sure) and i actually think the other one was held by charlie in his hand as he melted?
AND THE SUBTITLES SAID "but not forever" WHICH AAH i know it's because charlie's recovering, but it also shows quackity's... ominous determination, if that makes sense?
"i held the blade" - (honestly i almost expected techno to show up but it wouldnt have fit too much i think -) but you see quackity's anger, the fist turning red and harsher, and (im guessing) him holding the torture tools he used on dream
oooooh this part is really interesting because it gets quick
we see karl cry a purple tear, probably related to him losing his memory, as he falls back and disappears in shades of white and blue which makes me think of the In Between
but!!! then it keeps swirling and becomes a darkened rose - something we've seen linked to quackity a lot, but also it keeps swirling and disappears, but not before we see the backdrop behind the black become an orange-ish colour, which the first time made me think of sapnap
then then then we see quackity wearing that thorned rose in place of his heart, it's the torturer, corrupted quackity we know, with the scar, and his engagement ring turned black, and holding his scythe (? ive seen in other animations, my brain thinks he's on his way to torture a green blob)
but but but then "I did my best to find a way to make us whole again" and it shows two people!!
AAH AND THE SUBTITLES SAY "by any means" WHAT DOES THAT MEANNNNN
okay so one has wings, white, and a pouring heart, long hair and their face is covered by the other's blue hand
the other has a flowing skirt, blue markings on their body, an upside down blue heart for an eye and a huuuge blue rose on their back that's almost sprouting thorns
hmmmmmmmm
honestly there's probably some bigger meaning or foreshadowing im not getting but the most interesting part to me was the dive into quackity's mind, with the two people, the winged one and the rose one
I LOVED IT and pap obviously put a lot of care into that part
can i just say, i love the way some of youre animatics are - not anticlimactic but i dont know how else to put it
like this one, devil's deal and city of stars all feel like they end just when the song is on its crescendo or even in the middle of a line and i think it creates a really neat effect that always keeps me thinking about the animatic hours after i've watched it

Bruuuhhh the part where Quackity is trying to reach Charlie as fast as possible only to have Charlie die in front of him is just so sad.. maaan. But anyway. As usual, great work, Paprikup 💖💖💖

I LOVE IT! I'm also into kingdom hearts and this song being one used for the characters there (lyrics written for the different trios) and you using it for dsmp, the fiance TRIO no less, makes it so much more enjoyable. The animation style of fluid motions is always satisfying coming from you Paprikup!!

I found the mushroom growing part to be interesting its just how i interpert it but it seems like we see this in sapnap point of view seeing and growing together with his mushrooms (karl and quackity) but as days goes by karl can be seen less and less slowly fading from existence where as quackity slowly gets corrupt and drown in pain growing thorn that will push people away while sapnap the one who somehow always left alone (dream,bad,and george left him too) begining to wonder if the problem is him all this time
Oh and the lyrics "i held the blade and may the darkness fade" i thought fit w quackity quite well as in he did a lot of bad stuff to fill the void in his heart he rather feel something than nothing he doesnt care if its bad he just dont want to be alone with his thought bcs thats the only place he can find karl and sapnap
Just came back from school to see this-- I was there when you made some of the frames and holy cow this came out amazing!!! You really found a way to make me emotional!! It's over all so well done, especially the way you were able to manage to add so much in one piece :D

Your painterly art style for these animations is so unique and gorgeous- I look forward to your videos every time you post! And man, this one really hits in the feels (Quackity wading his way over to Slime only for Slime to dissolve ESPECIALLY, Sapnap and George and Dream standing together, the whole bit with the fiancé’s- absolutely stunning, and absolutely HEARTBREAKING I swear). Thank you for another masterpiece.

OMGGG THIS IS SO GOOD. This has me in tears…literally. The tear jerking music and the “simple” but also complex, deep history, and feelings in the art are soooo goood. You have amazing talent that I always go back to and watch!!! Love it keep it up🙀

I LOVE THIS ANIMATION SO MUCH after watching a few times i realized a few things that just make me love this much much more:
the symbol at the beginning is the fiances - the thorns for quackity, swirl for karl, and star for sapnap ! (and the symbol at the end too) also i adore the detail at 0:14 where the star on sapnap's shirt completes as dream and george appears :')) and one of the pieces disappearing at 0:18 !! the water quackity stands in at 0:48 looking like a rose omg :0
also also the reoccurring animation at 0:33 and 1:40 with the swirly eyes, then the wings, then what i'm guessing is sapnap's tail (?) (it kinda looks like a spade symbol as well) with an upside down heart. (sapnap also has a spade on his shirt at 1:23)
finally, just scenes that were absolutely breathtaking but i unfortunately have no interpretations for: 0:38 1:04

I have the entire mama Mia ost stuck in my head
Theres a few things I wanna point out that I don’t think people saw. Because I’ve become sucked in and wanna join in on the analysis party of the symbolism of this video lol.
The star on Sapnap’s shirt in the beginning, (before I start, I know everyone saw and understands that it represents sapnap, what I want to point out is how it’s animated.) When he’s sitting down and it’s showing him with Dream and George, I thought it was an artistic art style that the star didn’t look whole. However when Dream and George both get closer to sapnap, the star is shown to become whole the closer they get. “I thought this island was my home”. The other time it changes and shown not whole, is when Dream’s smile turns upside down and part of the star disappears.
I saw a few people think the wall was the prison, but my first thought was L’manberg, (I think we get it by now what that place meant) It made Dream upset and confused, he became obsessed with trying to make things go back to what he was use too. Making him the villian and losing Sapnap and George. L’manberg was something of its own, (thats what I think the little outer dome over the wall and part of the star disappearing mean.) it was something different and new, it formed a destiny I don’t think the any of members really thought it would lead too (what I think the ? also meant other than). “The outside world, the great unknown” “where does it lead too”.
Another thing I noticed that I thought was interesting like many others was here at 1:05 . I noticed the vines have stars and so far we’ve gathered that stars=sapnap blue/roses/vines/wings= Quackity/ corrupted Quackity (Btw I like and think it’s interesting how corrupted Quackity and just Quackity himself is drawn differently, separating them as two different entities.) And Karl’s swirls transition to a rose and thorns on to Quackity’s chest aka Quackity’s heart. The two people in 1:05 I think are both Quackity because the rose and vines, coming from one’s back and the other with wings, which we have established is both being represented as Quackity. But going back to the the vines having stars and Karl’s swirls etc. I think the rose and thorns coming from Quackity’s back symbolize his pain from both Karl and Sapnap. And Quackity below himself, having his eyes covered, covered in blue and heart bleeding. Is Quackity kinda like replacing his old self.
(Also I noticed words and phrases are explicitly on one scene. Unlike how captions are typically so the “whole again” is kinda throwing me off) Doesn’t really make sense, but let me explain. Quackity admitted that in the past, he was naive and stupid about politics and such and because so, he was hurt a lot. But now he has knowledge and knows what he’s doing with Las Nevadas. The corrupted Quackity also is hovering over Quackity with wings and BLINDING HIM WITH RAGE (
This is amazing! Keep up the good and awesome work!

my theory for "may the darkness fade" part 0:56
the Karl in that scene represents his conscious he wants his memories to stay "may the darkness fade" is a silent pray to regain his memories / himself. Purple represents Karl. One purple tear drips down his face meaning he lost his last remaining memories. His conscious falls due to it and he loses all shape of himself becoming a black rose.
People are saying black roses mean corruption so it could mean Karl is now corrupt but personally for Karl I'm going with the more classic interpretation of black roses meaning death / mourning so Karl becoming a black rose means that symbolically Karl has died (symbolically!!! cause he lost all memories / himself)
also 1:31 seems like a call back to the lyric "may the darkness fade"
cause it's Karl's book = memories
surrounded by DARKNESS!!!!! welp.. that's my theory thx for reading
