The manual was of much help when i needed to change the blade so thank you. your video was easy to follow and informative. seeing i am a novice, how the face of the blade should be placed is the only thing i found missing but trial and error solved that . I have a 30+ year old Homelite trimmer that originally came with the string and blade attachment; however; the string attachment was useless where I live. I'd like to get my cutter going again IF at all possible (it hasn't been used in years). Since I didn't know how to switch out the blade, thanks for sharing! 👍
Thanks for the help. I tried using stainless wire in place of the usual plastic line. Yeah, that didn’t work. It just kept untwisting and fraying till it was a nub. Shopping around for a blade. The line goes too quickly with my beastly yard.
They make a plastic blade that is heald out by syntrifical force if it hits something solid they have some give so the blades don't shatter. Just a thought.
By the way y’all that live in the states like texas ect . .. always shop the cold states right before or at winter .. you can get weedeaters for like $5-10 each !! I bought two from Walmart … and then had them shipped . I do pay the extra couple dollars to be member of Walmart bs club . It’s just like sending a gift to someone in kirksville Missouri … that walMart is where you want to shop . Just saying . Wanting to help
@@lynradblack4915 I assume that you are talking about the nut and cupped piece. That was part of the kit. If you look on Amazon you can find different kits. Here is one that popped up when I did a quick search. (IRmm 9" x 36 Teeth Carbide Tipped Brush Cutter Blades)
Lowes or homedepo type stores sell 2 cycle gas mix to make 1 gallon batches or 2.5 gallon batches for those bigger jobs. Just dump the size of those that you want into the gas can and pump your gas into the can in the amount that the mix was for. On a side note, I strongly recommend using ethonal free fuel in small engines for both 2 cycle or 4 stroke. Ethonal will cause many engine running issues pre maturely.
Not in my opinion. As long as the head is removable and the trimmer has enough power and is built well enough to handle the heavier load i have not had any issues with mine.

Honestly after buying the adapters and everything else to try to turn it into a trimmer it would probably just be cheaper to buy an inexpensive Gas powered weed wacker
The typical Electric trimmers really aren't designed for handling heavy brush that you would be using a metal blade for. The resistance and strain on a electric trimmer from cutting heavier materials with a metal blade would likely damage the electric trimmer. Metal blades typically go on gas powered weed wackers.
i dont mean to disagree but with the 3mm line on a bigger trimmer its totally possible to cut fresh inch thick saplings. just last friday i slaughtered some new growth with a autocut 40-2 on an old fs 360 and with only 2,4mm line. if its just a few its not worth changing attachments ;) good tutorial though.
The curve of the shaft is not important, what you need look for It's a brush cutter that is compatible with the power head attachment at the end of the shaft. Look on Amazon for a brush cutterhead that is compatible with the current style of powerhead that you have installed on your trimmer.
Well, yes in a way.....I guess it depends which side of the trimmer head you are looking at it from. .... looking at it from the top it it turns one way from the bottom it is the other. The type of weed eater that you have would have been helpful. I have an echo. My comment was irrelevant because I'm not showing a video. It's like getting a metal pole and saying hey you can put a blade on the end of it.
But are the extra parts needed to screw the blade included int he blade purchase? nobody has ever answered this thing in the videos, everyone magically have the head guard and all the screws. I bought a blade and it was blade only. Go figure.
Also if you search on amazon for ( Blade Conversion Kit ) for a trimmer then you will be able to find a full conversion kit with the "magical" hardware ;) Hope this helps find what you are looking for

I wouldn't put one on a curved shaft trimmer since the shafts are not as tough as the straight shaft ones which is the same reason that your trimmer needs a specific replacement head and some of the aftermarket ones will break your trimmer. I have had some experience with echo curved shaft trimmers since I use to have a GT-2400 but still have the gt-2200 and 1100 I believe they are marked but could be slightly off on the last two. So don't do it is my thoughts
I believe the all trimmer heads do come off one way or another for replacement. Your's may be a reverse thread or corrosion has caused it to seize the hardware up. Typically speaking though electric trimmers are not built rigid enough to handle heavier brush. Let me know how you make out.

yeah but he didint show the bit where he took it back off snce he tightened it on wonky, and in the last shot befre he used it supposedly it was on straight, and i think it would have been more authentic if hed included the video where he realized that he has messeed it up and has to fix it

Mawazo Ali Selemani it's really more dependent on the quality of the trimmer. Most higher quality straight shaft trimmers will handle a drush blade without issue. The curved shafts trimmers are generally lower quality and are not heavy duty enough for a brush blade.
what about blade trimmers without guards? can anyone answer this please? with string and no guard a plastic string will just fly off and not hurt the user. has anyone got any experiences using a blade trimmer without a guard. thanks
I would not recommend using a blade with no guard. In my experience they sometimes bind and kick back. The metal blade will do a lot more damage a lot faster to flesh than plastic string even with personal protective equipment being warn. Just not a good practice all the way around. Stay safe. The plastic blades would be less dangerous than the metal blades without a guard, but they could still do a lot of damage if they came on contact with flesh. I'm not to concerned with them breaking and hitting someone as they are light and won't care to much momentum. I still strongly endorse using a guard for safety purposes. I also have noted that I get much less weed guts all over me with the guard in place.

Charles Dearing most of the big box stores have the brush blades. They are usually in a kit with a variet of nuts and washers and spacers. You can also check in at the tractor supply inc.

Hi Dan, thanks for the video! This is something that I'm wanting to do with my Husqvarna 128ld. Husqvarna sells an separate brush cutter attachment for $89.00. It is the Poulan PP4000c. I'm wondering if I should buy it or go the route you did and just use a blade kit. I'm wondering if the stock "string trimmer" gear box in the trimmer head is strong enough to act as a brush cutter? The Poulan brush cutter attachment has it's own gear box and the info says it has a strong gear box. Any thoughts on this?
In my experience if you are cutting light brush and bryers with the brush cutter it should be OK, but if you're cutting a heavy brush that that the cutter will need to chew through then you may want to go with a heavier duty gearbox. It comes down to how hard you will be using the machine. Hope this helps you to make a decision.

I have several weedeaters but most of them with a straight shaft that might be able to handle a blade are made by stihl to name a few I have a FS70r, FS75, FS90, and FS130. I am looking at putting it on the fs70r and maybe a McCulloch BC327 if the kit is still available. The head looked almost identical to the ones on mine. Which blade do you think is going to be the safest? I have chaps and headgear as well as a good pair of heavy boots I wear also.
James Duke if your trimmer is made for it if the actual manufacturer makes the kit for your trimmer and as long as you don't hit rocks steel and just cut the brush then yes still wear boots and I recommend you wear long thick jeans

I would have liked to have seen a yard more like mine. A lot more over growth cutting would have made this video better.

Does it matter what type of trimmer it is to swap out a blade on it? I have a lot of ivy, vinca vines and property to clean up.
Not in my opinion. As long as the head is removable and the trimmer has enough power and is built well enough to handle the heavier load i have not had any issues with mine.

There are many kits on Amazon and ebay. Just be sure to get one that will work on your setup. They all attach differently between brands. Good luck!

The chef of an edger is turned 90° from a trimmer. It probably wont-work very well unless you have interchangeable attachments for the edger

I got the brush attachment for my Troy built trimmer and it sucks. the blade had 4 tips instead of 3 but now I just use my machete.
sharpen it all the way around and it will cut,, it comes dull and covered with thick paint

The kit I bought had the nut and washers included. I am able to purchase just a blade, but the blade only option is typically a replacement part.

Technically it should all fit together, but I would be careful what you are trimming . Hitting to heavy of a material may brake the trimmer.

Is there a keyway on the brushcutter to lock it onto strimmer drive before fitting left hand locking nut?
No there is no keyway. It is held in place but a cupped tention type washer and lock nut.
