  • In this video, we will explain how you can measure the pH of creams, oils, cosmetics, emulsions, etc., and whether you can determine the pH of such substances at all.
The very concept of pH implies that the activity of hydrogen ions is measured in an aqueous medium. The main difficulty is that these substances have almost no water, instead there are many fatty components. That is, the very concept of pH in creams, fats, emulsions, etc. - loses its meaning a bit ...
There is an old GOST 29188.2-91 according to which it is proposed to determine the pH of creams and cosmetics using water extract. We will conduct an experiment and see if we can determine the pH.
Since when measuring the pH in the cream there is a high risk that the usual pH electrode will fail quickly, we use for these purposes a standard laboratory electrode, in which the internal electrolyte can leak from the key (EZODO GL42 - simvolt.ua/kom... ) and specially designed for such substances electrode XS Sensor Flow (simvolt.ua/lab....
Attention, immediately after the measurements, wash the electrode VERY thoroughly from the cream residue. Use dishwashing detergent and then rinse the electrode with plenty of water. Do not leave the electrode dirty for a long time, wash immediately after measurement. Do not use conventional pH pH electrodes to measure the pH of creams, suspensions and fats - they will fail almost immediately.
