Late to the game here lol but I'm headed to my local shop either Monday or Tuesday shopping for my first bow. I've been rifle hunting for many years however as a trucker I always miss rifle season due to how I run November and December. I however am home every weekend the rest of the year so bow season is prime for me. I've been doing a lot of research on different bows, fundamentals, tips and tricks and your videos have been a huge help in helping in understanding archery. I'm very excited to get into the sport now. Thanks for everything brother and keep it up!!
I just got back into archery after 10 years. Literally watched this video, went out to shoot and used this grip instead of my typical open hand grip. Groups were half in size at 40 yards. Thanks for the helpful tips!
this video just saved me so much frustration. got my bow back from the shop all dialed, dead on at 20 yards, get home and shoot and im missing low and to the right really bad. talking missing the target completely. saw this and thought maybe I wasn't gripping correctly. sure enough, once I slowed down and made sure my grip was correct I was back on target. thank you.
Thank you, thank you. Your tips were spot on. Almost gave up on my Halon X. Once I changed out the old grip(flat grip) and switch to Shrewd grip. POI improved greatly. Shooting 1 inch groups. Thanks again for great instructions and advice.
I know this is an older video, but I have to tell you, this is an awesome tip. I’ve watched it at least 3 times, over and over, to reinforce this technique. I’ve watched a couple other videos, but this one is the one that made sense to me. Thanks! On a side note, I’m a long haul trucker and at 51, just got into archery hunting. I’ve been watching your videos over the past few months. I like your reviews and definitely your tips. I just subscribed. Keep putting out the great content. It’s really helping a guy like me! 👍🏻👍🏻
This is so much better than all the other form/grip videos I've watched. I was really fucking it up earlier but I had to crank my draw weight down and now I draw so fucking smoothly and my pins are really close to bullseye when I reach full draw. Game changer this video was, thanks buddy.
Thanks, just what I needed. Bow shoots the wings off a mosquito at 20yds providing I do my part. All I needed was a little help with my grip. Much improved consistency.
Thank you for the great info. Bought a bear mauler and went to paper tune it and had to go way off Center to get the bullet hole. Changing my grip brought the rest back to Center. Really appreciate this. Figured I had bought a broken bow but it’s just me. 🙄
Consistency is the Answer. Really appreciate your time and knowledge with this video. This helped very much! Stay Safe and keep these teaching videos coming!
I can’t wait to try that,I’ve been having some flight issues and I narrowed it down to my grip but couldn’t find a great video explaining proper grip technique Thank you
Nice video on the subject, I' m sure it will help a lot of people! Why don't you make a video about the front arm, shoulder and elbow position, I think it would be helpful too. Thanks for your work!!
I’ve been having an issue with my pse when I set my grip and I know it’s correct, my left index finger seems to rise above the shelf a little bit which concerns me when I start to add broadheads
Great video. You hit the nail on the head for me. My 20, 30 & 40 are great but then my longer ranges are all-over the place. I will be giving this technique a try!
Great advice and just as applicable to recurve; will be using your catch phrase with our next Beginners Course (when C19 lockdown ends here in the UK). Best wishes Jeff
The finger trick may actually be my saving grace. I was grouping, but shooting high no matter how much I moved my sight. Im thinking I was pushing the bow up with my wrist. We will see how it goes tomorrow.
I think you just reminded me of what I'm doing different. I went a few years not shooting at all. I used to shoot every day. I have been trying to figure out what has been causing me problems with consistency.
My grip is consistent and my fletched arrows print bullet holes and I've been able to put together fist sized groups consistently at up to 60 yards but when I shoot bare shaft through paper I get a massive low right tear. 🤦♂️
I am at my wits end trying to bare shaft paper tune my bow I have done everything I can do without a bow press. I thought my cam timing may be out of wack and need a cable turn or something so I took my bow to a local bow shop and they blamed my grip and cause my bow was in center shot. I don't believe its my grip because I am getting a consistent inch and a half left tear. Any advice? Triax 30" draw length 70 lbs Easton Axis 300 spine w/ 75 grain outsert and 100 grain feild point.
At about 10 yards I am getting 2-3” bareshaft tears to the right (right hand). I am struggling to determine if this is a grip issue, or a bow issue. I am testing a 250 and 300 spine arrow with 100 grain inserts. field points 100-200 grains. 75# draw weight 29.5 inch draw Mathews V3 Any advice is definitely appreciated, as this is very frustrating to work through
I've been struggling with hand placement, watched video after video and tried every hand placement and I still get a bow kick to the right causing my arrows to go to the right, get a consistent hit to the right with my arrows and they fly left and right thru the air, I've tried every arrow spine and every one of them fly that way and hit to the right...
Hey! Great video... somehow I've gotten into a bad habit of putting my knuckles on the grip. What is the part that allows your stabilizer to be offset to the side?
I don’t actually grip the grip. If you’re drawlength is too long then you won’t be able to get the correct grip. And too short you will have to grip the bow to keep it straight, it’s all about correct draw length and then consistency. I mentally think about not touching the shot. So I pull back with my release arm straight to not touch the shot side to side then my grip is pushing straight forward to the target so I don’t bias the shot to the sides, only straight at the target.
I'm waiting for the day they build a bow that has an ergonomic grip that is designed to mitigate wrist torque. They build bows with "pistol grips" that you're not supposed to use.
Biws used to have ergonomic geips and they’re torque machines. If held correctly, as demonstrated in this video, it will induce the least amount of torque possible
what is the best thing to do for guys that do not run dual stabilizers, and find there level is not able to get center because of arrows and sight tilting the bow to the side those are on? shoudl we correct bubble with our hand or get another sibilzer?
Brandon Caulkins offset the front stabilizer (see Kellen’s during the head on shot), make sure you experiment with different lengths and weights,...this tuning is critical for quiet pins.
You should be able to shoot the bow with a stump for a bow hand and no fingers. Think about shooting with bow with no fingers and you will be much more accurate
I'm super confused now.... I just saw a video of Jesse Broadwater shooting with his bow fingers riding all the way up the shelf. And he was shooting 10s all day. For every rule ppl taught me in archery, there's bound to be a pro archer who breaks it and runs away with 10s. WTH...
You’re teaching has definitely helped improved my bow tuning and shooting. Bow Yoda you are.

Wow I'm new and I went out to the back yard and tried this. Groups went from ten inches to three in 10 shots thanks for the tip!!!!
Thank you, thank you. Your tips were spot on. Almost gave up on my Halon X. Once I changed out the old grip(flat grip) and switch to Shrewd grip. POI improved greatly. Shooting 1 inch groups. Thanks again for great instructions and advice.

I appreciate the kind words and I’m glad you found the video helpful! Good luck with the new addiction haha…best of luck brother!

I just wanted to say thank you for your videos I've learned & improved so much because of your videos
Love to hear it! Thanks for the support, happy hunting to you

Thanks! I just started with a compound bow and wondered how to properly grip. This was such a thorough, easy to understand lesson.
I always been mindful of my grip and thought I'd got it nailed but I've tried your method and its completely spot on , very pleased indeed. Thank you
Best grip tutorial ever!
Thank you for this video. Very clear and precise instructions
Glad it helped
Grip is the foundation! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You are the best, thank you for your videos.
Terrific video Kellen. Totally confirmed the method I've been trying to instill into my muscle memory when I draw my bow each time. Thanks so much.
Consistency is the Answer. Really appreciate your time and knowledge with this video. This helped very much! Stay Safe and keep these teaching videos coming!

Thank you
Totally agree with this, I'll tune a bow for a friend and they'll shoot it through paper and its tear right, grip is everything
Nice video on the subject, I' m sure it will help a lot of people!
Why don't you make a video about the front arm, shoulder and elbow position, I think it would be helpful too.
Thanks for your work!!
Kellen is the GOAT.
Dude!! Outstanding videos and information provided. Advanced Archery 201!! Please continue 🙏🏿
I’ve been having an issue with my pse when I set my grip and I know it’s correct, my left index finger seems to rise above the shelf a little bit which concerns me when I start to add broadheads

thanks for the video. it's always good and easy explained. In stead of other video's is Inside out the best there is.
Thank you very much. I succeeded.
always looking for great videos to share with friends and customers, best explanation i've seen! Thanks again!
Thank you! Had a freaking left nock tear on my bare shaft that was driving me nuts.....this got it to bullet hole!
Great stuff. Field points I've been grouping but once I shoot broadheads I'm either far left or far right.
Another great video. Thanks for all the free education.
Great advice and just as applicable to recurve; will be using your catch phrase with our next Beginners Course (when C19 lockdown ends here in the UK). Best wishes Jeff
Brilliant thamk you

Awesome video 👍 thanks and your videos have really helped my shooting

Excellent video! Keep up the good work.
thank you
Awesome video as always
Great tips. Get the same thing every time and you get more consistent shots. A little surprised that you went to full draw with no arrow nocked. 🤔
Love all your videos mate, very helpful & keep up the great work from Australia
Great video as always. Keep them coming.
Tanks brother 👍 my from Indonesia
Keep up the great work! Subbed on ig and yt 🙏
I wish Mathews made the traverse with the switch weight mods. That bow shot very well for me during 3D season.
I almost guarantee you'll see a longer ATA bow with the switch weight cams this year. Id bet on it!
I hope so, the traverse held a line very well for me but I wanted something a little heavier in draw weight. Should have held on to that bow.
@@apbt8220 I shoot one for my hunting bow. Put 5 twists in each cable and now it's a 75lb bow
Great video and info
Great information, thanks!
Great instruction thanks
Yo Kalen. Where's the shop at? What state? Looks pretty legit.
Springfield, Oregon
Excellent!!!!
only one thing I have to say....Thank You
I think you just reminded me of what I'm doing different. I went a few years not shooting at all. I used to shoot every day. I have been trying to figure out what has been causing me problems with consistency.
How do you find the clearance of you fingers to a broad head. From the angle of the video they look like they were sticking up a little bit.

Hey! Great video... somehow I've gotten into a bad habit of putting my knuckles on the grip. What is the part that allows your stabilizer to be offset to the side?
Its called the Static Side Bar mount from Mathews
What side mount are you using for your stabilizer there? I meant to ask you when I was there last week, but I spaced it.
How it will come if we use finger sling?
What wrap do you have on your bow handle? I’m trying to figure out what to use for cold weather since aluminum doesn’t feel great in 30 degrees.
It's just KT tape
Won't help with the cold
Ok thanks. Will have to figure something else out.
@@johnphillips9383 You can probably just get some moleskin at Walgreens.
What is that offset stabilizer mount?
Did you remove your grip?
I don’t actually grip the grip. If you’re drawlength is too long then you won’t be able to get the correct grip. I believe it's the Bow Rack

Yeah his finger comes up pretty high over the shelf, but his hand position is the same.
I hate the narrow grips of today’s bows
