OMG, this is pure gold. Thanks for giving the most important tips about the slots' black flag and the double tap! Mental note: Moogle after BAR / Crown after BAR / Moogle after Crown after BAR.
Thanks for the informative video on this trick! I was able to master this in about 30 minutes of trying the various abilities...it took a minute to figure out that you were only referring to the third reel when double tapping to avoid the flag. You probably mentioned that but I figured it out. This trick is so much fun, thank you!
WOW! I've done Cait Sith's instant death Limit twice in way over 2000hrs of gameplay. In all this time I never thought to go after 3 hearts (they just never registered). I know some REALLY obscure shit about FF7, I can't believe after all this time there was a *limit breaker* I hadn't seen of all things.
Normally, reels skip symbols when you press the select button to "help" you get the same symbol on the second and third reels. The Evil Flag makes it so the reels do not skip symbols, reels stop immediately when you press the select button, then skips symbols on the third reel so you likely miss the third matching symbol. This happens most often when trying to get Game Over, which is why the double tap trick is so awesome. I mastered Game Over in one day thanks to this trick. Thanks Garland!
Much obliged!!!! Really helpful, it might seems complicated but actually it's not hard to make it. Since in the PS4 version, by pressing R3 one can turn the characters into sort of "invincible" mode and limit got automatically maxed out in battle, it's pretty convenient to practice this trick in game (but otherwise you should press no R3 in game or you would lose all the fun)
Crash is the main focus now, but my Xbox fucked up two weeks ago and I couldn't record anything. Just keep in mind that I upload exactly what I want to, and there will definitely be some random FFVII videos now and then between the Crash videos. There's nothing anyone can say or do to prevent that from happening, so if you have a problem with it, simply keep it to yourself like everyone else does.
@Spiralmark It's a programming concept. It's a variable that has only two possible values (true or false in languages with booleans) and normally triggers something when it is set from false to true or vice versa. In this case getting two of the same symbol sets the flag to true and triggers the third reel to not stop when it should.
Garland, do you think you'll ever do a video on Battle Square stuff? Slot selection obviously would work the same, but the other mechanics like what kinds of slot reels come up, best methods for getting through and BP fast, et cetera; I know I always end up losing a lot of time in playthroughs to that whole thing.
BTW folks, be aware that the "slots trick" is also useful in two other areas: Tifa's Limits (where you try to get "Hit" or "Yeah" and avoid "Miss"), and Gold Saucer Battle Square, where you can use it to pick your handicaps and take ones you can live with. And garland's right, when you get practiced at it you can control your results like magic. Be aware that timing between PSX and PC versions is a bit off, so your reflexes from one might be wrong for another. Not sure about PSX vs PS2/3.
I still remember the time I used Cait Sith's limit break on Safer Sephiroth and got the instant game over reels. lol. I was so mad. I didn't do this rigging thing and what not. It just happened naturally. I've never used Cait Sith on any of my replays after that.
I'm referring here to the 'press square and pause the reels' bit. There is no Evil Flag in Tifa's limit that I'm aware of, and none in Battle Square to my certain knowledge.
Hi, your video is very inspiring and encouraging for me. Do you find out the pattern of the slots yourself ? It is great , I have played FF7 10years before, I loved it , and I am really impressed that someone have the patience and the mindpower to delineate the pattern of this, it's kinda like scientific discovery for me! Lau from Hong Kong.
Also make sure you have a ribbon on Cloud and you can take things like poison, mini, and frog reels without being affected by them. (Poison, mini andfrog reels dont offer a whole lot of BP but they provide more than the lucky7 or full cure reels) I had a glitched arena once (i guess) and every reel was either fuul cure or lucky7 I only got like 20 BP for it :/
But how can you TELL if Evil flag is on? Other than just guessing because the last time you looked at the game timer it was an even number... and blah. There's no give away, tell tale signs?
Hey! You named Cait Sith Quina? Ah come on, at least he has SOME pertinence to the plot, what with the whole pyramid sacrifice and him being Reeve and all that.
Eghads, the nefarious mafia villians! But anyways, good video, I never new that stuff while using cait sith. (All I really could manage to get with his reals on command was recovery, and the 3 bars.)
Oh GarladtheGreat I seek answers.. In ur travels have u ever entered a state known as All Lucky 7s or been able to use the major status "seizure" not to be confused with 'inverse regen' which was used by Bottomswell. If thy have would u as be kind to present in on youtube. :) .... Hopefully u'll check these comments if not ohwell :(
.......You know I almost feel now that this was how it was *meant* to be done. Like, it's not a glitch, it's just programmed that way to allow you to have a chance at doing it that's not, well, naught.
Yeah exactly... in the end, evil flag will just be bad luck... (also did you know that PAL games run slower than NTSC) so calibrating the clock with the game is always gonna be dodgy cos the seconds on the ingame timer are like a tenth of a second out either way. It's totally wierd. so after say 10min of real time your in game timer says something like 11min on NTSC and 9min on PAL... or was it the other way around. I dunno, I noticed it most when I first moved to the states. Now I'm used to it
So the first two are easy to get right?! Well the last slot the game time has to be divisible by 64 otherwise even if you’re on time it’ll just skip it to something else and almost every mfing time it does! The worst part is… the Devs actually thought they were being creative/clever with that bs!
@XenoAlbedo I'm pretty sure they don't care whether or not you change the names sense they gave you the option. Leaving the names normal is a bit boring, i only leave the same for the sake of recording which i haven't gotten to yet
This is actually a fluke. Pressing the square button does not slow down the reels but rather do minor pauses for each frame. What he is saying is true but the reels never slow down. They are always moving at the same speed. You pressing the square button repeatedly is only acts as an illusion that they are slowing down. Yes with LOTS of time and practice you can master and get everything you want. This also works with the battle arena as well
Sooo... since the flag is virtually on all the time (for "Game Over"), there's a ~1.6% chance of failing (using the double-tap trick) given one has mastered the buttons and stuffs, right?
hey garland i have a simpel request can you put up in any page ort PM me the max kill weapon code for death penalty for the NTSC-U version of FF7? is that i have been looking all over the web the code and all there is PAL version
My god, could it be that there was a mysterious other reason they were down rated? Sniper on the grassgnole? Aliens in new mexico? Penut butter in my chocolate? I actually have no idea what the original commments say, since youtube likes to make it so people can read down rated commments, leaving me to make wild accusations. Possibly it was the revalation that garland is in fact from the future here to conquer us by luling us into a sence of awh at his gaming prowess before stealing our eyes.
@@annas6035 whatever you heard is wrong! I used game over to kill Ruby Weapon and I did more than once! But it’s recommend to kill everyone in your team before starting and I’d also turn on 3x speed and that thing that boosts your limits and time right away!
all lucky 7's is easy. 1st have party member w/ maxHP > 7777. Find weak enemies and manipulate them without killing them. Damage the party member to below 154 HP. End combat. Equip Cat's Bell. Walk until HP = *exactly* 154 (be careful!). Unequip Cat's Bell. Enter combat with a harmless monster and manip before it can damage you. Laser (or Demi2) party member from 154 to 77 HP. End combat. I must have only had Cait in my party for about 4 uses of slots, because the dick got death joker and i was scared to ever use him again. Now I finally know how slots works, thanks
The day I got Death Joker was the last day I ever had Cait Sith in my party more than necessary.
I got this game just after it came out over 20 years ago and I'm still playing and still learning new stuff. Greatest game ever made!
OMG, this is pure gold.
Thanks for giving the most important tips about the slots' black flag and the double tap!
Mental note: Moogle after BAR / Crown after BAR / Moogle after Crown after BAR.
I can't help but think that the "Death Joker" and "Game Over" names were actually reversed.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who figured that one.
There is no G in Death Joker, what are you talking about?
@@joshuavega5609 it's the actual name that he was talking about, like kill the enemie = Death Joker, and suicide = Game over
@@sanglish18 I think they were joking.
Oh well, this comment is 5 months old, you probably don't even remember typing it.

Hmm...so basically when trying to get that last face, you have to cancel out of it when it's lined up and you trick the game?? Interesting....
And in the end you can see that it's not random.
Darkkefka holy shit he's here.
Damn youre good at this. I know VII like the back of my hand but i was never this good at the roulette. Props!
Thank you for this tutuorial.
I asked this in a personal message, and I cant be the first. This is the best answer anyone can possibly give.

The trick to get a game over made my day!
excellent tutorial! also holy shit i never imagined cait could use Knights of Round from his limit. that's awesome!

Thanks, dude. Great tutorial and great video. x)
You are a true master Uncle Garland

its WAY easier if you have it on the psp, the home button stops the slots completely and allows you to see the next slot easily
I still remember the time I used Cait Sith's limit break on Safer Sephiroth and got the instant game over reels. lol. I was so mad. I didn't do this rigging thing and what not. It just happened naturally. I've never used Cait Sith on any of my replays after that.

great tutorial once again garlandthegreat. one question though.... how does one determine the evil flag's appearance or presence within the game?
i just erased Ruby using the double tap lol.
I think you should put up the sound, it would be nice to hear the sound effects.
Hi, your video is very inspiring and encouraging for me. Do you find out the pattern of the slots yourself ? Ah I knew it couldn't be completely random - lining up 2 nearly always meant lining up the third!
Ha, I like that bypass. The game's like "w-wait, you can't do that!" and you're like "meh, it's close enough."
Heh
Wow ; I'm glad you did this video. :-)
So, does the evil flag depend upon the seconds on your timer from when you open the slots command, or when you click on that final slot?
Also make sure you have a ribbon on Cloud and you can take things like poison, mini, and frog reels without being affected by them. (Poison, mini andfrog reels dont offer a whole lot of BP but they provide more than the lucky7 or full cure reels)

Its not affected by the number of times you use Dice, you have to kill 40 enemies with him to get it ^^
But how can you TELL if Evil flag is on? Other than just guessing because the last time you looked at the game timer it was an even number... and blah.
There's no give away, tell tale signs?
You did a great job here, i know it took you a bit of time :)
What i didn't get is HOW do you know if the Evil Flag is on or not.
GarlandTheGreat= Shinigami of Final Fantasy VII ^^

Holy CHRIST....
You didn't exactly figure this out all by yourself, did you!?
you can get a full recovery everytime you use a megalixer, and you have unlimited megalixers if you have the w-item materia
You put two way to get Game Over but which one is for what situation?
The only problem with this video is that it wasn't posted sooner.
Oh yeah, I forgot the magic word: PLEASE.
Is it just me or should the Death Joker and Game Over names be swapped?

@bone009 It's a form of script I believe, to determine whether you get the reels you want or not, depending on your time of play.
Woah, interesting. Well, I don't use Caith Sith a lot.
You could use the "Pause annotation" for texts.
Im a little lost so literally just press the square button the entire time to get cait version of zanmato?
So the flag is always off for Mog Dance; that's a relief.

i wanted to replace him after that but never did
um that bar bar bar combo...dos that give me a chance for Knites for the round

I think I can now get mog dance at about a 50 % rate....... pausing the reels sure helps a lot
Well now I feel awesome.

@Gaz66d You can't tell whether it's on or not, so yeah, just hope for the best if you're trying to get one of the 50/50 combinations.

how the hell did you figure out all the mechanics behind the slots technique?
do you know one of the programmers or something....??
