- (5 of 7) Welcome to the Typography Week 5 Critique
If you are interested in the typography course, check it out here - bit.ly/Type01_yt
How can you improve your typography designs without the help of professional instructors? We understand that the design process can be tough without guidance through the process. If you want to learn why basic typography skills matter, this critique is for you.
In this episode, we asked students from our Typography 01 class to submit their assignments to receive critiques. Chris Do and Milka Broukhim conduct the critique live and review multiple student projects, good and bad!
In this part 5 of 7 critique episodes, we will review the concept of grouping sections based on importance and hierarchy, using Any Weights and Point Sizes.

Please do not take these videos off Christopher! This is the only education I can afford at the moment.
Wow I’ve not visited the futur since 3 years ago before I got my first design job and I can’t believe how big your channel is now and so good to see Chris still going strong! Thank you for everything 💗
Welcome back!
Milka says "we won't be there" when you're designing your own layouts.
However, since taking this course, whenever I'm designing.. I hear Chris and Milka actively guiding me like Jedi Master Voices in my head, as I'm Laying out my Type!! xD
SAME
sameee! lol
Randomly stumbled upon this video. I’m not a designer nor do I know anything about typography. Nonetheless I was entertained for the whole 2 hours.
Thank you! maybe you are a designer (deep inside).
Never too late to learn! ^_^
This one overwhelmed me. I felt we saw lots of "this doesn't work" but less of finished versions of "this does." (In my experience, that means this is the stuff I need to pay attention to most.)
Once again, marvelous content. So much value. Thank you.
Joel, the truth of it is, that it takes time to make one great layout.
@@TheFuturAcademy Right, right. Forgot for a bit this isn't a class, it's critique. Once I finish the other 3 courses I've got going on, this typography course is at the top of my wish list. Especially if there are going to be more levels. Great stuff all round.
Thank u so much u dont know how much u helped me!!i'm graphic design student ur videos are the real classes for me uni is just a waste of time i never had a real typography classes in my graphic design courses:)
Potentially unpopular opinion - I think many of the solutions that Chris worked on before the session were less succesful than ones from previous weeks where he made tweaks in the moment. I think when he made tweaks in the moment he kept the essense and just did one trick or two to make it better. When he worked on it beforehand he tried to fix too much and the outcome was less strong afterwards. Not all, I just felt like we veered more into personal preference than arguably better designs. By the way Chris you are still 1000 times better than me, total loungechair criticism here... love you and the Futur’s work!
Thank you for the feedback. Maybe that’s the case.
Btw I had about 5 mins to work on each.
The Futur Academy, it may also just be that the quality of the work has improved so much that there is less of a "holy cow, that's so much better" moment when you make the tweaks. That's testement to the quality of your teaching 🙂
Just love watching these videos purely to see all the awesome 'Swiss style' Helvetica-centric layouts and designs. I REZN8 with that style tremendously! So thanks for these videos. Also rewarding to know that as a designer, I've been employing many of the concepts and thinking you're applying to your student's work.
A few months ago I finished Typography 01 and learned a lot.
Will we see soon typography 02? I would say at this time, there is no online course on typography and graphic design fundamentals at this level of quality and knowledge.
I think it would be a great opportunity for both students and The Futur to continue with what I think is the best seller course.
I also really love to see more about graphic design history like the great videos we saw years ago about Rodchenko and Cassandre, but maybe this is already asking too much.
Type 2 and 3 are in the works.
Thank you so much Chris, team Futur and Milka for doing this. You guys are awesome 😘
These videos are so helpful for my typography class! I cant wait to build up expert level skills.
Thanks for another sweet video. Loads of great little nuggets.
I actually don't mind the same mistakes being pointed out as it really hammers it home.
(I find repetition helps things to sink in personally)
Thank you! So amazing, so much value, loved it as always ❤
Where does pushing and pulling elements along an axis fall into having islands on your page?
Fantastic critique! I really enjoyed it!
I just want to make a question about the layout we're seeing at 31:00 - I like the idea of adding that element of chaos (as Milka said) that brings contrast to the organized layout. However, in the past weeks we've seen what happens when the elements of the layout don't speak to each other, aren't we having this problem here?
Love you guys!
Excellent
You are both rock stars
I may have missed a few but does anyone have a list of the artists and designers they have been mentioning to research?
Josef Muller-Brockmann, Herbert Bayer and Jan Tschichold.
Özge Üçoluk Appriciere this thank you!
@@joshuanorris3017 You're welcome have a great weekend :)
Is there any COVID discount for the typography course??
Yes. 20% off. No code.
I love what daddy bryan did here. Its an art. I would create a style like this HEHE
What does satellite mean? And how to avoid putting texts in text box?
Hey, why should you not use text boxes?
I think it's so it's easier to move things around more accurately and independently. It gives you more control.
Keep the text boxes for paragraphs only and you should be good! That's what I do anyway.
Thank you
We learn here how to embrace the complexity 😅
I'm really learn much patient here 😭
Very contradicting feedback. Especially when you want to use Wolfgang as an example
what do you mean?
Are these posters supposed to copies of Josef Müller-Brockmann's work?
the assignment is "Any Point Size and Weight" as stated in the title
in a way, all modern typography owes some credit to the work of Josef Muller-Brockmann, Herbert Bayer and Jan Tschichold.
:( Chris never tell why Lagg
