What I've learnt... - It's not enough to have cool images, they have to all gel together to paint a picture outlined by the brief. Do this by harmonizing the colours, overlays, repeating elements and grouping similar subjects. - Font selection is very important. They have personalities so use fonts that communicate the intent of the brand or the brief. - Contrast makes for an interesting design. Different elements contribute to the general theme better when their hierarchy has been clearly established. - the futur team is very very selfless! Good work you guys :)
The critique videos like this have been among my favorite. Catching the small details that are overlooked helps me improve. This is a good critique session.
thanks, Matthew this is summary for the Stylescape the Stylescape is a communication tool that helps to clarify the direction for both of the clients and the designer by using organized elements, photos, typography, colors, intended user and anything that serve the project.
Looove Feedback Fridays! I know you have done videos before with critiques on different kinds of work... but now it has a day and a name👌 can't wait for the next episode
this video is very informative, self-motivated, and it's very nice to get a course but I cannot afford it for now, but I will someday I will invest in it, big thank you to the futur academy.
That was really helpful ! Can you show few examples of actual designs in which we execute the stylescape ? so that we can understand the further application of it. Thank you !
I think this is very helpful we now know if we want to look to the Stylescape more objectively without being emotionally touched with it (the passionate detachment ). so thanks!!
Thanks for this useful course! I've been looking for something like this for a long time. How to do these first steps, how to generate ideas before the start do. Because variation colors, fonts, forms huge. How to find the beginning of the path - it was always number one question for me. Therefore I also searched some abstr-associative images to search for shapes and colors. Then put them in a folder. And now i see this is part of the design called - Stylescape. So it is very useful, this is when a novice designer asks himself "how to start?" This is the beginning.
you could invite some designers over to have a conversation about their work to check if you're getting their "message" Or have "random people" or the target audience make comments if the design is connecting w/ them.. These are random thoughts but awesome video as always 😁
Thanks Matthew, learning a lot! Had few questions, please help :) Since stylescape is not the actual design, how do you convince a client based on it? For instance in the Hamilton use case, the stylescape presented and the end product had a different look. What if the client expected an exact translation of the stylescape? How do i make a client visualise the end result based on a stylescape?
Did a spit take when I heard the first business was called Manko Marketing...mostly because I know what "manko" means in korean/japanese (and I'm sure other asian languages that share the term)... I definitely wouldn't use that in my business haha
Hey Mathew, I have a couple a couple of questions regarding stylescapes. I have worked for a couple of clients but I never sent them any kind of a moodboard or a stylescape in the whole process. I wanted to ask that is the stylescape sent before you start to work on the Logo project of the brand? What should the stylescape actually convey to the client? Is it just another way of telling the client how the branding will look on different mockups and what vibe the branding will give with the help of tye colour schemes? Or is their any other specific message a stylescape is supposed to convey? I loved the episode and did learn quite a loy of new stuff but these questions still remain unclear. It will be of great help if I get answers of these questions in tye near futur. Thanks alot!
i bought the logo design and stylescapes courses but i didnt get invited on the slack group. can you guys please invite me? and as always thank you for deliver such a good value. appreciate it so much thank you
For me it's nice that this proportion doesn't have any associations with any application. So your (clients) review focuses more on both the total experience as well as details from a more abstract perspective. Which is perfect if you're in the initial phase of the brand identity
Sometimes when I do stylescaping, I tend to get a lot of pegs from a one brand because of similar personalities, whenever that happens I try to veer away from it cuz it might end up the same :P. Do you guys have some sort of process on how to prevent it and how you look for pegs/references on building the stylescapes without making it look like a clone from another brand?
I love these feedback sessions.... but they are way too long! I would love you to condense this awesome feedback into a 30min edited video, I don’t feel the need for them to be live - the length puts me off watching which sucks because I know there’s really valuable nuggets of information

Awesome content! Matt is my favorite! Love how he takes more time to absorb the design than he does just jumping into critiques. Keep it up!

Love it. Also would greatly appreciate if you would do tutorials for colour correction or how to pull relevant images that convey the brand qualities.
Good idea

Thanks for sharing your experience!
First time I heard the term Stylescape. I'm really intrigued, and I can really see the potential. It looks like a loose form of a brand guideline
very informative . I love how you explain things. I am just confused what is the perfect size in pixels for stylescape
24:07 Creating Visual flow is an awesome tip!
Another Stylescape Critique please 🥺

How do i make a client visualise the end result based on a stylescape?
great question...
Is there a standard dimension for a stylescape?
Did a spit take when I heard the first business was called Manko Marketing...mostly because I know what "manko" means in korean/japanese (and I'm sure other asian languages that share the term)... I definitely wouldn't use that in my business haha
What sizes has the Hamilton stylescape ? (the Format )

It is a pity that you did not answer your question. I also had the same question :(
i bought the logo design and stylescapes courses but i didnt get invited on the slack group.
can you guys please invite me?
and as always thank you for deliver such a good value. appreciate it so much
thank you
Is there a way to submit my Stylescape for the next episode without taking the course?
Not at the moment. Right now we’re giving this as an added perk to our students.
Why the stylescape is in these proportions? For example why is it not A3 ect?
For me it's nice that this proportion doesn't have any associations with any application. So your (clients) review focuses more on both the total experience as well as details from a more abstract perspective. Which is perfect if you're in the initial phase of the brand identity
Cooler word than fannypack? Not possible my friend ;)

Do you guys have some sort of process on how to prevent it and how you look for pegs/references on building the stylescapes without making it look like a clone from another brand?
We definitely try and pull from multiple sources. It makes the end result more unique.
Are stylescapes usually confidential and only for the client-designer to see?
Yes
Building A brand Season 2, please😭😢
