- It's common to find yourself wishing there were more hours in a day to accomplish everyday tasks while still having personal time to do things like practice art. Well, since there are still only 24-hours in a day, Bobby shares some ways that you can be more aware of how you spend your time and how fitting art into your schedule is easier than you might think.

I love these tips! Other things are:
-saying no to non-essential tasks and meetings
-productive procrastination. When you're not making art, watch tv or read books that inspire and inform your art by teaching you more about your subject matter
Those are great tips, too!! Thanks for watching this video! :)

Thank u! 🤍
This is awesome! I started watching your videos when the covid-19 lockdowns started. So a lot of my start up, motivation, and knowledge I owe to you (and schoolism, of course) thank you for never stopping the encouragement of artists across the globe! ❤️ I hope to meet you and Masae one day!
Oh that's fantastic!
I love this video advice and similar videos you made before. Thank you Bobby!
thx!!

You are welcome 😊
Put down the phone. You’ll have plenty of time.
Phones are huge distractions for many people, so you're right! Thanks for watching! :)

Normally I really love your talks but the way you describe having value or no value is upsetting here. We are not our productivity, my dude.
nowadays I've always been telling myself that I don't have enough time to do art. the truth is, I had time but I just could not see that. thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience Bobby. I feel motivated
right on River!
"where is all ur time going??" this question might change my life.
thank u
my pleasure. hope these thoughts help
"having a bad art teacher can be worse than having no art teacher" - wise words for sure
It's so true!! Thanks for watching this video! :)

I needed to hear this, thank you for posting
my pleasure
I'm very good at making a schedule, making sure I start practicing on time, going to bed, exercising, trying to keep healthy, etc. But what do you do when you're working on a project and every ounce of energy is sapped from you? You have the half done painting in front of you, you have your coffee next to you, everything's ready, and when you pick up the wacom pen you just hold it. And stare at the painting. You were prepared, you woke up early to get the job done, it's time to draw but... Nothing. Zero will to strive for your dream. I have the want, I have the how, but I'm stopping myself at the last minute and I don't know how to jump over this hurdle, no amount of inspirational speech and drive works
at such times, I stop trying completely. I tell my mind, you don't want it? Fine. In those times I end up watching artists from all around the world looking brighter than sunshine, and eventually I find the drive again.
I hope it gets better for you.
@@from.the.furnace I agree, a break from the stress would help I think but unfortunately, I'm not in a position where I have time to stop :/
@@asdfffs ah yes that's true too :(
I do exactly the opposite at work between projects(I work at a factory), every time I'm about to switch to a new build..." IT'S TIME TO SLACK! Let me spend two hours cleaning my desk, getting new parts, running errands... OH?! Is it the end of the day? Oh my goodness where does the time go!" xD.
lol... Vlad, we've all been there! :)
I read the thumbnail as “How to find more time to do RAT” and the image, though not a rat, is a rodent so it made me think that is actually what it said. I clicked it confused and extremely curious as to what “doing RAT” could possibly be. Then I reread it and felt kind of dumb. But it was funny so I’ll share for you all to get in on the laugh. 😂
By the way, it was a very good video and it was still interesting despite not being about anything rat related.
LOL
lmao idea for the next video

I've recently changed up my routine so I can spare at least an hour each day. Been a good time ◉‿◉
Nice!
I just learned a lot about life even though we're only talking about art
Wait, Taiwan? Our founder Keith Huang is from Taiwan. Want a small world.
can no longer stand to record myself either but tbh I prefer this method bc we can literally see what step u take next and how it affected the atmosphere
oh I'm so glad. This way is so much more enjoyable for me
What were you doing? *checks Switch* … “200 hours spent playing BotW” 😬 Gotta love that log time, really reminds you of how much time could have been saved! Every minute is valuable. Thanks for the reminder, Bobby!
Great example! Same with Screen Time, it can be a huge shock to see how much time we spend on our phones as well when we could have been doing something more productive! But it's also important to take breaks and zone out sometimes😊 Thank you for watching!

4:32 How did you draw the hair so quickly?
I love u Bobby !! ❤️

I heard that too
This video made me realise, that I am already spending every minute I have and that made me sad. I wish we could have more than 24 hours per day.
It would certainly be helpful to have more time in a day!! The only thing we can do is try to keep doing the best we can with the time we have😊
~S
wt.. how did you do the fun at 7.00
Great advice, it's better to do art in 1 or two hours everyday, rather than to do art 6 hours per years.
Definitely! 😊

I just want to add a bit to what has been said:
Try to make the most of each day, but when you do step away from drawing to take break, don't feel the need to be guilty of each minute you're not drawing and take the time to properly take care of yourself too. Also, when you do decide to take time away from something to draw, make sure to properly think about what it is you're taking time away from (Don't just suddenly strip your friends and family of your time). I think it's important to assess things with your own value system as well. For example, to some social media might be just really a distraction from their goals, but if it really brings you some sort of fulfillment, then don't just deprive yourself entirely of it. As long as you keep your time well managed and balanced, you will get closer to your goals. On a final note, if you somehow find yourself really struggling to draw X amount of hours each day, don't be led into thinking there's something wrong with you or that you don't love drawing enough. As you get yourself more into art, you'll also find yourself more comfortable to put in more hours. As much as we should spend time to improve our skills as artists, I think we should also just take the time to enjoy the art journey. I wish everyone all the best in their art journey :)
P.S.
Terribly sorry for my senseless and stupid comment I made earlier. I was terribly disorganized with my thoughts that I ended up going totally off-topic and saying things I totally didn't meant.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! You brought up several good points, especially about not being too hard on yourself if you don't end up doing as much are in a day that you wanted to. Life events can happen unexpectedly, and sometimes we just have to roll with the punches of daily life. The important thing is to just try your best to improve as much as you can everyday and you will see results. :)

pro tip: unemployment
i am a sucker for the 'I don't have anytime' as well. I remember you did a video a while ago where you showed your schedule for the day and I was like...wow crazy. But now I'm starting to get tired of not getting where I want and wasting so much time on unnecessary tasks and chores. I've even had schoolism for about 3 years and haven't finished a course! its so eye opening and I really want to change the way I do things. More inspirational videos pls!!!
ALSO - I had an idea for a course, I'd really like to see if you could do a course on either 'comics/children's book illustration' or 'colour' or 'the art of the pencil', only cause I find that illustration and the raw skill to put pencil to paper will never go out the window, but I would love to learn more about how to utilize coloured pencils. But that's my thoughts :)
Marie-Alice Harel is hard art work making her course. Her work is absolutely beautiful!
I love the way you continue to inspire artists, give them no-nonsense advice. But there’s also an underlying message too - to be true to yourself (“I’m not recording my painting any more because it affects the way I paint.”) That authenticity to your self is another valuable lesson.
Aw thank you so much Nancy!! This way is actually so much more enjoyable for me
Thanks for the tips Bobby! Ever since working, I did think and find that somehow I have lesser time to do art. to basically draw art and enjoy myself. I'll try to manage my time now with the tips that you gave!
you're welcome Charmaine
I’m really trying to figure out how to have my art supplies available at all time. I feel that I have all what I need scattered all over my studio and I spend way to much time trying to find those supplies to get go. By the time I gather them my energy is gone and I would rather go sleep. Art is not my profession but is my favorite hobby. Any feedback will be truly appreciated🌸
Thank you bobby i was just recently thinking about my time and menaging it, one thing - when planing things ahead how to know when to make breaks and making things you can realisticly do instead what you think you can?
I think that's just experience in getting to know one's potential
Thank you so much
Thank you so much for watching!😊

That's awesome!! Let us know if you find it helpful in being able to get more art done! :)

Thank you Bobby! I am really hoping to see your painting creatures course on Schoolism again. I especially enjoyed your process of creating & was planning on going back to it after I finish with scapes and Terryl's kitty cats.
bro, I would pay for a Schoolism class, but it only accepts PayPal for the one-year plan, I don't have money for the one-year plan :[

Question: This is a lovely guide but how do you prevent the opposite problem? Back then, I took this to the extreme and ended up feeling that everything had to revolve around art. Even though I knew my breaks inspired my art, I was still stressing that every single thing I did had to be productive in some way! Any tips? I’d really appreciate that so I can maintain a proper balance. :)
You might find this video helpful: studio.ruclips.net/user/videoJn7tDkCfnpg/edit?c=UCKfG25IfoxX8AT0JjmG2H0Q It is a panel webinar where artists talk about how they maintain a good work/life balance! A lot of the tips they suggest might be helpful for you as you try to find that balance in your life as well😊

Super cool advices. Thanks. I Did The Kris Pearn Course more then 10 years ago (Best course of my life), and I am thinking to Make a anual subscription. Your school is great... congrats to you and all the teachears.

this is why i listen to music, podcasts, or youtubes that i dont have to stare at on the side when drawing. even if i really have to focus on the drawing and only have music on, it helps keep the white noise on in the back of my head when youre so used to getting on social media. also, keep your phone in a drawer or out of your arm's reach unless you're waiting for something super important. full mute or 24h mute your discords, and other things!
Great suggestions!! Especially the one about keeping your phone out of reach. Getting rid of distractions is key!! Thanks for watching!
~S
The futur has an interesting video where chris do asks a student to segregate his daily tasks and write them down hour by hour. His point was by writing things down you actually see what youre doing and where you waste time.
This is a great idea! Sometimes we don't even realize we're wasting time until we notice how much time has passed, so writing them down hour by hour to pinpoint when you're not being productive is a good idea! :)
~S
Wonderful Video Bobby. I'm still trying to cut more time in my schedule at work and during the day. It's a bit hard with a kid. I hopefully I will figure it out. I enjoyed my Schoolism experience so far I bought a year. I would like to thank you for providing a place to level up.
Thanks for your kind words!! Totally understandable that it's a challenge to find time for yourself when you have a kid, but you can do it! Best of luck to you and thanks for watching! :)

Love the advice and love this way to present your art, sorry the traditional way to record was harming your work!

I think we all know what we need to do. I think we just don’t know how. Pushing oneself can be difficult when you’re exhausted, but the age old question of “How bad do you want it?” Applies here. Thanks for your thoughts.
This is definitely true for some! It can be hard to be self-motivated and actually make time to do art or whatever it is that will get you closer to reaching your dreams. Having a strong will to improve and the desire to succeed surely helps. Thanks for your thoughtful response and for checking out this video! :)
