Dealer told me mine required $14,500 of repairs because of leaks, but I have no puddle under it. Meanwhile, my other car is leaking oil and the garage (non-dealer) said it's too expensive to bother fixing so I should just catch the oil, top it up until I dump the car (Mitsubishi) once and for all.
Also there is an option for follow me home headlights. When the key is out of the ignition, you just quickly pull on the turn signal lever (like when blinking with high beams). Then you can just lock the car and the headlights will light up for 30 seconds and then automatically turn off.
musa-can kalin yes! I expected it on my 2003 530ia, it just does not function that way with either primary ignition keys! I thought it was on all E39 models. My 1998 540ia works just like you stated!!!
I've always loved the motions sensor in the center of the ceiling. You can leave your windows rolled down and you don't have to worry about anyone reaching in for something.
My mum just locked herself in with the key for half an hour to wait for me a few days ago, and somehow she didn't trigger the motion sensor from the front passenger seat, though I could see the security light blinking...
Just want to say when you unplug the MAF and you find it runs better don't always assume it is the MAF sensor failing, that is often also sign of a vacuum leak.
This is not everything e39 key can do. It stores some data as well. Mileage of a car, and last settings of AC and also driver seat/steering column settings i belive. If you use the other key it will bring last settings it was used with :) When you lock your glovebox with a diamond key, you cannot open it with a valet key (grey one). :D
I had the same key problem last week. You should go to the trunk fuse compartment (next to the battery) and check the (central locking system fuse) mine was bad so I replaced it with another 7.5 amp fuse and it worked wonders.
Thanks! I sold the car last year, but I did check every fuse when I had it. I believe it was probably a receiver module, but I could never figure it out.
There is some pretty good info and some of these, the one I use often is if one of your windows is not all the way up or your sunroof it’nt all the way shut you can turn your key in the key hole on the driver door clockwise and hold, and all of your windows will roll up and your sunroof will shut If you turn counterclockwise, all windows will roll down.
The plastic piece on the windshield wipers is a wind deflector. They were added after the first year (1996) because the wipers would whistle when you went faster than 160 KPH. You can actually open the doors without the key. You need to press the unlock button on the center console and within one second before it re-locks, you can pull the door open. However the alarm will sound and will not stop until the key key’s stop alarm button is pressed.
Was a special extra on the so called bus steering wheel....yes once you have bought a car with that, you wont regret it...an extra that most people think is unnecessary, Till the, bought a car with it

I did. I was even able to successfully sync them to my R53 Mini; so, I know it wasn't the key. I checked every fuse, but it must have been the receiver in the car that wasn't working properly. I sold it before I ever figured it out.
Yo, you say the torch isn't too bright? Well, how about if I told you you can make it brighter?! Well, a whole shitload brighter, actually!!! All one has to do, search for and purchase "LED E10 bulb" and be sure to you get the threaded bulb (screw in kind). Once that bulb is delivered. go grab a tube of crazyglue and putty knife butter knife and very carefully, pry the two sections of the torch apart, stick the tool right in the seam then rotate the tool back and fort and work it baby but not too deep, you want to stick it in and work it real easy until both sections come apart. Once apart, carefully take the silver reflecter off from the base of where the bulb screws in. The underside of that silver has adhesive, so if you are gental with the whole process like I was, the silver is reusable. Unscrew the bulb, then screw, screw real good, deep and hard the new LED bulbe. Then whipe it out! The crazy glue, you'll apply crazy to all three edges of where the two halves of the 2 bodys met. Onces you have the two two halves glued together, clamp the body together with tape, wrap tape arond the body a few times and let the glew dry for a good hour or so. Then take your clamping device off, turn on the ligth make sure it powers on, then reaply the silver to the bace of the torch, than use a tad bit more of that crazy to the lens and pop the lens back on the torchand reclamp, but this time clamp the lens to the body for same amout of time as last. There you have it, very simple, very easy to do, you'll have a much briter brighter light. Store light in it's charging port as normal.
@@Hayden-ib3ju OH! Wiper blades. I believe the smaller auxiliary wiper blades are permanently attached to the wiper arm; if you want to replace them, you'll have to buy a whole new arm.
I replaced the factory "Y" resonator with an 18 inch Cherry Bomb resonator and deleted the muffler entirely. It's pretty quiet when cruising but sounds great on start up and when you floor it.

The 2nd whiper blade is for aerodynamic purpose
That ignition feature is only available for the 530/540i or bigger, not for the smaller engine one's

Yes, this is true, but there are still two different blades per wiper.
