  • Captive red wolf pups M1803 and M1804, born at the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY almost 5 weeks ago, are getting friskier every day. They're still closely monitored by parents F1397 and M1483, but the young brothers are becoming bolder and more co-ordinated.
If you want to try to spot the red wolf pack yourself, visit our live webcam at www.microseven.... If you see something cool, let us know!
For more information about these wolves and the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for critically endangered red wolves, please visit our website at www.nywolf.org, our blog at nywolf.blogspot.com, and our Facebook page at www.facebook.co...

    Hi "13elsyd13",
There are frequent questions re: the origin and range of the red wolf. The red wolf, however, is a special species of wolf, separate from the gray wolf. Red wolves are unique in that they evolved right here in North America, our own "local" wolf! The red wolf is also critically endangered and the WCC participates in a federal program to help restore this beautiful animal back to parts of it historic range.

I can't get enough of watching these critically endangered Wolves with their precious little puppies out in the open and trying to play with mom and dad.
    So very cute and beautiful!
Thank You for sharing! I'd love to be the human who got to be the one who went into the den and counted the puppies! The mother wolf was there and the father Wolf too.
How anyone who watches this could EVER be afraid of Wolves needs only to understand that family is the most important thing about Wolves and they are definitely Not the demons of the fairy tales from our youth.
We need to redo All the books of old, and this time tell the truth about the animals!
Thank You so very much, sharing the beauty here is so very important!

Mine was more wolf-like and the ears were tall on him. Highly energetic, so much so that it was really hard to see him gain weight. Always stayed his perfect weight and very lean. A little bit taller than most shepherds, he had long legs and big feet. When he stood up on his hinds he was about 5'10. There is an incredible spirit attached to this breed, in a sense he thought he could do anything. He climbed barn roofs, trees, anything to get his frisbee. And they love to swim, but he never walked into the water, a 10' leap into the air and he would dive underwater and then come up and swim. His name was Kea and I rescued him from a bad owner. I miss him but he lived a good long life.

Red wolves at one time ranged all over the Southern United States up into the southern part of the Northeast. They have been reintroduced to North Carolina, Tennessee and some other areas. Red wolves appear to be related to Coyotes. This is very interesting when you consider the recent migration of Coywolves into the Eastern U.S. We could end up with yet another sub species of the Coywolf, if Redwolves mate with Coywolves in the wild. The new Coy-Red-wolf would be part Gray wolf, part Red wolf and part Coyote and perhaps even larger than the current Coywolf species.

The pack is dwindling down in North Carolina because so many farmers are shooting them, thinking they are coyotes.

I never like to see animals behind bars but at least these little pups will be safe from the hunters ... I wish we could find a way to educate the hunters to make a living some other way so out wolf populations could recover naturally again.. I loved watching the little pups .. Makes me happy to see new life being protected .. Just shame it has to be behind bars!

Precisely, why should hunting become a sport? Why do people kill bears for fun? I don't understand it.

I am so pleased with your beautiful wolves and this lovely environment that is created for them! I was very upset when they “ culled “ 463 wolves in 2019/2020 without a proper environmental study in 2019 ( statistical flaws )! ! They obviously did not let the people know in BC orAB, Canada!

  • @kuwaizair

@nywolforg ah, the others evolved elsewhere? people who support Mustang horses say they deserve to be wild and free, because their equine kind evolved in NA. thus"are native". But if wolves evolved in Europe and Asia, then those are "not native".
should I "troll" those who love both horse and wolf with that?
Mustangs hail from domesticated animals, but should be respected as a wild animal like a wolf.
