people gonna disagree with this video but i gotta say thank you cause I love this album. not just like it I LOVE IT.
everything from A Keeper to the end of the album is 9-10/10 for me. honestly only major issue with the album was starting it with Falling Back.

It's all subjective, though. The reason why I still like this new Drake sound that started around Dark Lane Demo Tapes is that he's just doing what he wants and the music sort of reflects that, for better or for worse. I still do want him to give his all on another album again, but I'm a fan of this sound for the time being at least.
Don't get me wrong, though. I definitely can understand why people dislike this new Drake era especially in the context of his discography.

Drake is a talented artist where he doesn’t even try and still sells millions of copies.
I wish he took it more seriously. His new music is dogshit, but I love his older work like NWTS, what a time to be alive and IYRTITL.
He can do that still. Maybe the 21 album will smack

It’s cool when you make vids like this from when you became a fan to where you are currently. In this “some opinions are wrong” era it’s important to remember all music is subjective. If you like it good, if not, still good!
Personally I think the album is ok but not completely bad (I’m talkin to you Scorpion 👀)
Idk if “Her Loss” will knock Honestly Nevermind outta the Top 5 but hope it’s great. Again, love the long form videos as much as the short ones!

I disagree with you about IYRTITL. I think he “doesn’t sound like himself” because that was a moment for him where he had a lot of clarity and maturity as an artist. I hear that record and think of it as the peak of Drake, because he’s still exploring lots of interesting ideas, they’re just of a different breed than what he explored before and since. Also, 10 Bands and Energy feel like very distinct songs to me, and even if it just comes down to the lyrics, I think that they’re still very worthwhile Drake bangers.

When I was younger, I was the kind of guy that hated Drake because everyone hated Drake. As I got older, and listened to his music, all thanks to my brother, I realized he actually had some decent music. Then i finally listened to Passionfruit, and hot take, that is one of the greatest songs ever made. I love vibey Drake music. I love this album. I was never a huge fan of rapping Drake, and I had this album on repeat when it came out.

Personally, passion fruit is much better than the majority of the album. Rapping Drake (especially classic rapping Drake) has always been my favorite, but I also like the R&B side of him too. Nevertheless, I thought the album was mediocre, but fine for background music for a pool party or something.

Might be psychopathic behavior but to me Honestly Nevermind is drake’s ye (2018).
Both way shorter than their more recently often bloated albums, both have a more laid back and relaxed vibe with a new style for the artist, and both have some absolute bangers and a few songs I never wanna hear again in my life. Both even have a collab with an artist they then went on to drop an album with in the same calendar year (21 and Kid Cudi). I know messaging-wise they couldn’t be more separate, but for some reason I thought of ye (2018) on my first listen of Honestly Nevermind and I now have some weird link of the two in my head. Great vid!

I still love Drake's run of albums from 2011 to 2015 but since then I've never fully enjoyed a Drake record aside from maybe one EP, and every time news gets around that Drake is dropping it's always an eye-roller for me, it sucks because because I've gotten used to being disappointed by Drake but that stretch of albums I mentioned will always be important to me especially.

Tbh as someone who didn't have much of a connection to drake and just checked it out to clown on it, i LOVED the album. I think it's one of those that is less about individual catchy songs and more about this lofi, kinda eerie, very nocturnal vibe that the whole thing has. I also think the more sparse sounding beats made all his lyrics, even when they were very corny, a bit more sympathetic? He sounds genuinely sad and conflicted about this relationship and fame, without really changing his delivery from other records like clb, i coule empathize a bit more with them. The fact it's a such an unexpected and uncommercial career turn only makes it better for me

the reaction to this album reminds me of the reaction to WLR. people like to put artists into neat little boxes and see experimentation as a negative. people kept (rightfully) calling drake lazy for releasing a generic mixtape album in CLB but then went on to flame him for doing a tight concept house album. one of the most popular mainstream rappers in the world going into a completely new direction for a whole project should be encouraged and respected even if the result wasnt good. but.. it is.

Great video as always! The reaction to this album was insane to watch live. I honestly did not think it was as bad as some people said it was and I feel like a lot of people just fell victim to the internet hate culture. That aside, I think it’s a very weird take by some to say that this is an album where Drake takes no risks. IMO, he takes a BIG risk here by making it completely dance with the exception of the last two tracks. If anything, his previous two albums were the ones without risk taking. With the exception of a handful of tracks, they sound very generic and copy paste for Drake. With Honestly NVM, while the lyrics leave much to be desired for, it is a short and concise listen that I think fits perfectly in the background for ambience and vibes. I hope this marks a new era for Drake. He’s one of the biggest artists in the world and he really doesn’t need to put out bloated albums to soak up streams because he’s going to get played regardless of how short or long his albums are. I hope he continues to experiment, and I hope Her Loss is a great listen. Love me some 21 Savage

Okay, okay, so, I thought this album was very meh on first, second, and third listen. By three tries I was ready to accept that it was an interesting but undercooked experiment. And then I heard massive while I was out partying with my friends, and now whenever I hear it I think back on that moment and the shit we did that summer. So now, I don’t like the album in the way that I like NWTS or IYRTITL, but I appreciate it because on songs like massive or sticky or falling back there’s some actual emotion and he feels more like the guy that gave us Feel no Ways or Passionfruit. And after CLB, that was a pretty welcome change. So, ruff, yeah, it’s probably not an objectively good album, but it made me feel things too

12:40 that's a really interesting comparison because Yeezus was one of the albums I first had in my car. I was already a Death Grips fan and didn't really understand the comparisons at the time. Clearly that kind of music was an influence but I saw Yeezus as distinct from that. It was clear he wasn't trying as hard lyrically by then so I didn't see the albums on the same plane. Sonically however it really appealed to me. Maybe since I listened to both Yeezus and the few DG albums out at the time so much that I became so familiar with the unique sounds of each.

It's funny I really liked Scorpion when it came out cuz I was in a break up and it was something new to latch onto. Then years later came back and couldn't understand what I saw in it, but out of some respect for who I was at the time I still hold onto an understanding with that album.
Honestly Nevermind had no such hook for me. It came and went. But giving it a once over now, yeah it's not terrible like people want to make it. Just if I want dance music, I go full bore and get out some festival-crushing basshead shit that could collapse a frail raver's ribcage mid shuffle. And Drake's project just fits into the category of 'Lofi Canadian Beats to Hot Tub/Draw a Bath To" And I just don't draw baths anymore.
I will say Massive and Overdrive could stay in my driving rotation at a minimum.

The main thing about this album that I dislike is Drake’s vocal style, which has been sounding more over-processed in recent years than it used to.
The way his vocals are edited doesn’t sound natural, but it also doesn’t sound so blatantly autotuned that you’re supposed to notice it like you would for someone like Travis Scott.
Instead he sounds like someone who actually can’t sing anymore but is trying to convince you he can with all these slight tweaks and manipulations, but the end result sounds cheap to me.

And also, I have to appreciate Drake for being willing to chase different sounds even if he would sound corny doing those sounds. The fear of being corny is too prevalent in hip-hop.

If half the songs were half the length then I would like it a lot more. Fall back and Texts go Green are way too long and immediately kill the vibe of the album

I think you said everything that could've been said. Drake has lost his signature style and seems like he's been on the bandwagon of rap styles. I think he's become corny with the last 5-6 album releases.

I'm conflicted, because I enjoy the content, but the mixing and mastering on this project is about as bad as RHCP's "Californication"
