Don’t you wonder what those early settlers used to cut cloth if they didn’t have scissors? Pins and needles must have been so precious to those housewives. Thank you so, so much for this tutorial. Easy to follow and takes all the worry out of making a cape for decorating.

Thank you, Bridget for such a clear, step-by-step video on how to make a colonial cape. I have wanted one for a long time. Mine is almost complete. My sewing machine cannot handle the thickness of the last step, putting the cape into the collar. My friend who is an upholsterer is going to stitch that part for me. It is ready to go.

Oh my goodness I’m going to the craft store tomorrow and do this! Thanks so much for the video. It looks pretty easy. I’ll probably use the sticky tape I can iron on to take care of the edges. I don’t have a machine so I’ll have to hand sew it all together. Can’t believe it looks so easy. Love all your capes colors. Very nice. Looks like a life size cape. Thanks Bridgette.

I made a black cape and my husband loves it for his snug. I hemmed it all by hand but used the machine to attach the collar to all the pieces. It was fun!

Very cool! You need quilting pins with the yellow heads. Or you can use the new plastic clips that everyone uses. But that cape looks great.

I will be saving this video....thank you for the tutorial....it really does look pretty simple, so if I can figure out where I can use one in my decor, I'll be making one. UPDATE: Since we don't have a Joann's in town, I quickly checked Hobby Lobby and they had one partial bolt of brown flannel (the color I wanted) and this week was 40% off, so I dashed out and was able to get my 2.5 yds.....now on the first slow day I have, I'll be making myself a Colonial cape.....I know just where I'm going to hang it too. 😍

Love this! Just a note too, I think the flannel throws they have at stores might work for this too! They are 5 dollars each and sometimes less. I might try using two of them for this project. Those too would save some sewing since they are blanket stitched around the edges. Thank you so much for this tutorial!

You could sew this by hand, would take a bit longer, no sewing machine is necessary...just fold over the seams twice, iron, pin and only would require one stitching per side, instead of two...using a blanket stitch..😉😊

Thank you Bridgett for the Colonial cape tutorial, you made it look so simple. I've purchased a couple of wool capes from Townsend and Sons and they are so heavy, big and bulky to hang on peg racks, barely have any room to hang anything else. I have a little peg rack in a bedroom needing something long and slim and this cape will be the right fit. Love your videos and I'm so happy to have found you on RUclips, as I too have a Williamsburg Colonial home. Take care from Arizona 🌵

I was wondering if there is anything that you do not like that is Primitive? Like I don't like old clothes or somebody else's old photos displayed in my home. Just curious if others have something that they don't like displayed in their homes. Also anything that is your favorite. 😊 Mine is tables. I love old tables.
